This is a Napalm Death recording from 1982 which appears on the "Halloween" demo cassette (the 1st 'proper' demo which was recorded in August 1982). Captain Cave Crust: which tape did you get this recording from? Is it from the 'Ruptured Gut' compilation tape? By the way, we are digitising all of the early 1982 and 1983 recordings, so you may get to hear more of this rubbish in the future...All the best, Nic Bullen

Please let me know when they are available! Been wanting to hear more since I heard this one, The Good Book, and Crucifixion of Possessions. Reminds me of a more raw and true SUB/HUM/ANS! I'm a huge fan of ND from all eras!

      Please do!
Also, please get get back with an original lineup together and go on tour! Either Miles "Rat" Ratledge or Mick Harris on drums, I don't care! Call yourself "Original Napalm Death", or "Scum Side A" or something, we'll know who it is! Current ND has run its course IMO. I think fans would be very open to Scum and earlier material played live!

Where did yall even come up with this sound? Who sounded like this before this? Did you all consider yourselves crust or anarcho punk back then?

Hi Nic, did anything come of digitising the early recordings? I love what you’re doing with Rainbow Grave too by the way.

The album art is very Crass-esque and ND sounded like an angrier Steve Ignorant. I love it!

+Vic P - The singer is Nik Bullen. He was on all the punk Napalm Death demos from Halloween (1982) to Hatred Surge (1985). Hatred Surge was the first to feature guitarist Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu, Final), and it was obvious they were going in a heavier direction on that one. In fact, right about the time it was released, the rest of the band left. Nik and Justin hired drummer Mick "Mad Micky" Harris, and they re-recorded several songs as well as recording some new ones on their 1986 demo From Enslavement to Obliteration (not to be confused with the 1988 album - most of the time it is referred to as the FETO demo). This demo was their first grindcore material, and they recorded another demo at the end of '86, which ended up being Side 1 of the Scum album. Nik and Justin left since they were both dissatisfied with the direction it was going, and Mick got together with Lee Dorian and Bill Steer to record Side 2 in '87. This lineup lasted until '89, and Mick was the only one left out of that. Then comes the Harmony Corruption lineup, Mick only played on that album with them before leaving and being replaced by Danny Hererra. Not much has changed since.
Kinda odd how they're not suing each other over usage of the name Napalm Death like countless other bands do. They just passed it on to the next person that wanted to keep it going. That's one of the big things I like about them \m/

Nik era > Lee era > Barney era ... In fact I really don't give a shit about Barney's Napalm Death

It sounds to me like you prefer punk music over grindcore. Which is fine it's a personal preference but considering you prefer the Nik era of ND I imagine you're more into punk music.
