Depending on one’s perspective, our holidays are pretty minimal in almost every way. My husband and I have few remaining relatives alive or near us in location and we are both introverted so also have very few close friends. We tend to just step back and let those in our lives who are much busier than us do their thing and we catch up with them a few weeks before or a few weeks after. In some ways it can be a little lonely but in other ways it’s very relaxing. We don’t exchange gifts but donate that gift-giving money to a charity instead; we both plan a special meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas and since my husband works 10 hour days, we prioritize rest and relaxation with good books or old fashioned movies. Sometimes I miss the holidays from when I was a child but then I remember how stressed out my mother was because of all the extra work and unfulfilled expectations. I guess remembering the humble birth of Jesus helps me to remember how to keep the holidays simple.
Waffles looked delicious!!! For quite a while now my gifts are handmade.. I cross stitch and quilt and bake only at Christmas. I start pretty early on my ideas to be ready. Simple, for me,keeps me focused on the true meaning. When my children were small, it was much busier.
all of my children are adults and I don't have any grandchildren (this really simplifies things!) I'm cutting back this year to 3 gifts: cash, a gift card and one small gift to unwrap. (I've already purchased and wrapped everything!) I decluttered the decor down to 2 bins - 1 for the tree and one for things to set around the living room. My son and d-i-l have volunteered to bring Xmas dinner! I believe I'm ready for Xmas!
Wow...those waffles look delicious. I have the Ninja waffle maker...absolutely love it. I find I'm better organized this year than ever for the holidays. I literally have went through all my bins, labelled them with a label maker that QR codes each bin with. a photo as to what is in each one. As you get older, trying to simplify everything in life is an absolute must in my life...lol!!!
I love all these great ideas for organizing! Believe it or not, my boyfriend told me about putting together a notebook with plastic sleeves like you have and I put not only recipes, but homemaking tips, and also tips on being a good wife (a proposal is coming soon!!) its been a lifesaver! By the way, we reconnected after 45 years (we were high school sweethearts), and it's been a blessing!! I lost my husband of 35 years 6 years ago and never thought I would date again, let alone get married, but God has other plans :) LOVE your channel so much!
And yes I have to bring a pumpkin roll every year for thanksgiving wether I want to or not! Lol ! Would love to know more about your binder! And do you find using a scale for your sourdough works better?
I just got a new waffle maker this year after using my grandma’s cast iron one forever - the handle was missing so I had to use a fork and oven mitt to open it, and the temperature knob was broken too 🫣 Anything was an upgrade, ha, ha! But we bought a GreenPan Elite and LOVE it. Makes four square waffles at once. Has classic waffle or Belgian waffle plate inserts so you can choose which one you like best. I ferment a double batch of gluten-free sourdough waffles on the counter overnight and then freeze the leftovers when I make them the next morning. They reheat great in the toaster! ☺️ My guys hunting clothes hang in our trees - why. 😂😂 Ordered the Christmas planning pack and can’t wait to use it!! Thank you!!
Glad to hear I am not the only one with a bow hunting husband & NEVER stepping foot inside our home in “said” hunting gear!!! lol. He has converted our shed into his “Changing Room” just so he won’t smell like all the smelly candles (as he likes to refer to them lol 😉) He even has gone as far as buying a special wardrobe type hunting thing to store his clothes in inside our shed lol. Hey, whatever makes him happy… as long as I can keep making the house warm and “smelly” lol. ♥️
We have a KitchenAid Pro Line waffle maker that makes 2 8” waffles at once. It’s nice for making waffles for a family. Last year I paid for most of Christmas with cash back from our credit card! It makes it seem like the gifts are free!! For several years, I’ve used the same schedule for prepping for Thanksgiving and it has been a life saver! I know what I have to do everyday for a week leading up to turkey day! That’s when we have lots of family. Your videos get me motivated to get things done! I always look forward to them on Friday!
So glad it motivated you! I know Cindy does something similar with Thanksgiving! So much work and I'm sure your family appreciates it too! I'll have to look up that waffle maker, thanks for the recommendation! Happy planning!
hey girl- loved the video!😁 I like to plan things and write things down to😉👍 yummy food Lauren 😋 and I would love to try Blueland sometime🤔😀 Hope your having a great weekend🥰
Southwestern PA here, and yes, the weather is crazy - 80 degrees on Halloween 🙄. Also, my porch is exactly the same dust off the table to sit and work and camo covering chairs, hanging from things on the porch, etc. It's that time of year!
I, too, keep a running Christmas list in notes throughout the year. It’s so helpful!!! Also, I just started my homemaking RUclips channel and would love y’all to stop by, say hi, and come support! 🤎🕯️🧺☕️🍂
