My father, after 12 years of marriage and five children, walked away from us like we were dead to him. No birthday or christmas presents, not a card in the mail, or a phone call. For those children to have a man choosing to be their Father, is a blessing and your rewards in heaven will be many. From a 67 year old lady in Texas, major respect for you Sir.

I know how you feel. My dad left my mother for another woman in 1960. They're first kid is only 3yrs. younger then I and it was born in 1961 one month shy of my 3rd. birthday before my mom and dad were divorced in 1962. Worse thing I found out 64 yrs. later, my dad confessed to me he never told M%&y and kept my older brother and I out of his life for yrs. We have 4 half brother/sisters we never got to know and here I was afraid was my mom. He and M%&y have been married for about 60yrs.(got married in 62 after mom and dad's divorce)after she found out about us yrs. later, she never encouraged him to have relationship until later in our lives. Didn't even have a dad to walk me down the aisle, but he and only he from that part of family were there. Now he has cancer and not sure how much longer he has. I hate him, but also feel sorry for him and do love him in my own way. it's really sad knowing a parent will do that. God Bless You.

As someone who was adopted at 7, I never looked at adoption like I was losing my birth mom. My birth mom signing the papers to give us a chance at a better life was a huge gain. I’ll never forget my birth mom. I’ll always thank her for signing to give us a better life rather than giving us a false hope of her getting us back. She never truly got her life together even today. I can’t imagine my life without my adoptive parents. A large part of who I am is owed to them.

As a young mother who had to make the choice to give my baby girl up for adoption, I love this so much. She’s 15 now and I hope she doesn’t resent me for giving her away. Her parents were there for her birth, they named her, and they’ve raised her as their own with her adopted brother. They’re able to give her everything I couldn’t. It was the hardest decision of my life and it still kills me but I can only hope she’d like to meet me and her father some day (we’re still together thankfully). I’m eternally grateful to her parents. I hope she can see things the way you do, that I was trying to do what was best for her.

❤ I was never adopted but I had 2 parents who were both immature, selfish and much more worried about themselves to ever dig their heels in and show up every day for their children. My grandparents eventually got me and I'm quite sure if they hadn't stepped in for me there's no telling where I might have ended up. As a result, one thing I have struggled with my entire life is feeling like I'm in the way and unwanted. It's much better now at 52 but it never leaves. I hope these kids understand how wanted they actually are.

My husband and I adopted a baby boy 3 months at the time. He was beautiful and we loved so much. He gave us 3 beautiful grandchildren and they gave us 4 adorable beautiful grandchildren. He turned to drugs on high school and is still doing them as he lives on the streets in Portland at 57 years old. He has given his children and grandchildren up for this lifestyle. Our heart ache for him. I don’t know where we went wrong.
I watch this wonderful man fostering these precious children that so need love and guidance. What a wonderful father he is and he wants more. Any child that comes to him would be so fortunate. He is so loving and kind and would give them a wonderful life. I wish him well with his family and would love to watch it grow. He has so much to give these children. ❤😊

You didn’t do anything wrong. Gabor Maté is a recognized world authority on addiction. He says that all addictions, whether chemical or behavioral, can be traced to adverse childhood events, trauma, etc.
Gabor says that even children adopted as infants into very loving homes can at some level experience and carry the trauma of abandonment.
Not all traumatized children develop addiction, but all addicts experienced trauma as children. Please don’t blame yourself for your adult son’s addiction. I know you were loving parents.

The look on Skylar’s face when she asked for her first mom paints a very small yet accurate portrait of the pain kids experience as part of adoption. Y’all fostering & adoption… it’s not all sunshine & unicorns. It comes about because of the most primal wound a child could experience.

May God continue to bless you, Peter, for all you do for these kids. From 12 y.o., all I wanted to be was a mother. As I grew older and out of child-bearing years, I thought I would love to adopt, if I had a partner. I couldn't see myself being able to do it without a partner. Later, after I thought I didn't have the energy to raise younger children, I thought if I had a partner, I would have loved to adopt kids aging out of the foster system, so they would have a place to call home, a soft place to land, and someone to call for advice, or just to talk. Now, disabled at age 65, I don't have a partner or the finances to do any of it. All I can do now, is to pray for you, your family, and your future endeavors. God bless you all! 🙏 ❤

Thanks for sharing this monumental moment. I never really grasped the bittersweetness that comes with adoption until this video. I’m used to seeing the just sweet side of the story. Capturing the children’s sadness at learning they were not meeting with mom and dad but also their celebratory spirits for their adoption day was eye opening and emotional. Wishing the growing Mutabazi family so much happiness and wholeness🎉

Peter, thank you for taking us along on your amazing journey, with its ups and downs, tears and laughter, the expected and unexpected, frustration and success, hesitation and confidence, heartbreak and joy, but always love. The Lord has given you the real gift of being a father and you have multiplied your "talents" many times over. We are blessed to be taken into your circle!

Peter, How the time flew! I remember when you were setting up their room, waiting for them to arrive. You put so much thought and love into getting it ready. For the past three years the love has continued and now it has grown even more. I’m praying that in a few years I will be at a place where I could foster some older children. It’s just one way we can take a step to make the world a better place.

You’re right though,it’s bitter sweet. There is also a loss. You absolutely cannot ignore that fact. You are the first adoptive parent to be open and upfront about that. Getting it out in the open and dealing with it just makes good sense if you want healthy kids down the road.
