the clip with RM and Suga at the conference is one of the reasons the boys went to LA to really learn about Hip-Hop so they could shut their haters up and it gave way to the cyphers we all know and love. when you get the time you should check out BTS American Hustle Life.
i love that bts is a hiphop group but they ended up doing a lot of more pop, rock, ballad, etc type music because as they got more popular, i feel like they experimented with the best way to convey stories and emotions but never forgot their roots, and also theyre exposing their fans to all this great music. like i prob wouldnt have been so encouraged to listen to other rap music if i hadnt fallen in love with the cyphers. bts are seriously so influential

Dude, to celebrate his first birthday with BTS, Suga had a fanmeeting and gave a gift and hand wrote a note to EVERY SINGLE ONE of the 250 fans who attended. By his next birthday they were too popular to do it for every fan, but he still hand wrote letters and gave gifts to fans who were randomly selected to thank them for supporting BTS. He’s literally the sweetest guy on earth. You need to see all of Bon Voyage, among other things, to see how caring and gentle he is toward the members and fans.
He needs to watch the video where Suga had created everything by hand for 39 fans. It was so sweet. He gives off that cold serious vibe but he seems like a very caring guy

Suga is definitely the most reserved one in bts..yes he has his cute moments but you can't deny the fact that he has a comparatively dark umm focused (?) personality....(maybe because of his depression, parents' initial disapproval, his hard work, his passion (almost obsession) for producing)
so if he calls him Sasuke..i can definitely understand where he is coming from. Although he has changed a lot now, this part of his personality is still very charming.
Y. K 윤키 Exactly. I saw Sasuke as a guy who will fuck you up if you try to hurt his friends, cool talented guy, who has quiet confidence in him. Ofcourse in the beggingin of the naruto he wasnt like this, he was a kid with so much pain inside him and acted out. Sasuke took the wrong way to deal with the pain, and naruto took the right way (thats why its such a good story) but character development was amazing to watch. And thats why I dont see it as an insult to compare people to Sasuke. Though, thank god people are more multi dimensional than anime characters, thats why I cant wait for Bris to see the cute side of Suga. :) (but I havent seen every naruto episode there is, so chill people if my interpretation of sasuke is wrong :D)

listen, that shit with bfee was a MESS (they literally wrote cypher 2 specifically as a way to diss him for being an ignorant piece of shit). i think this would be a good time to explain why a lot of "underground" rappers get pissy towards idols:
- the term "idol rapper" has a very negative connotation, as it usually means that a rapper in a kpop group is just a rapper because their company told them that's what they'd be (usually members who can't otherwise sing or dance very well, so they're just a assigned the role of rap)
- BUT, BIG IMPORTANT THING: NOT ALL IDOLS WHO RAP ARE "IDOL RAPPERS"
- underground rappers get irritated because these basically no-rap-talent "rappers" in kpop groups get to shine for not really caring about hip hop or rap, while they're stuck underground struggling to sell albums
- yoongi and namjoon both started as underground rappers, they both obviously love rap and hip hop and it's a passion for them so i mean theyre good and not "idol rappers", even though they are idols who rap
- in "we are bulletproof pt.2" yoongi even has lyrics about how he personally has a distaste for "idol rappers"
- bfree was basically saying that because namjoon and yoongi became idols that it dismissed their talent somehow, which is fucking whack. he was also implying that wearing makeup automatically means that you're gay, which is also super wrong and gross to assume. korea's culture in general is very concerned with appearance and having nice skin, so that makes the whole "wearing makeup if ur a guyis gay" argument even more invalid
- anyway becoming idols meant success for them so i mean who in their right mind would pass up such a good opportunity? underground rappers are just usually bitter because someone else is getting more spotlight than them, its just a fact tbh
- BUT YEAH, RLY LOOK @ CYPHER 2 LYRICS, THEY GO FUCKIN OFF, ESPECIALLY YOONGI
thughyung TOTALLY. And Namjoon/Yoongi have specifically said they joined BigHit to GET THEIR MUSIC HEARD. They wanted to use K-pop and 'mainstream music' to get their message across.
They started off with hip hop roots and a lot of their music is influenced by it, but it's so much MORE than "simply hip hop" or "simply pop". Like RM said, he doesn't see himself pop or hip hop or R&B or jazz or anything specific. He's an artist doing his own unique thing, as are all of BTS. And they should be treated as such.
yeah and they still make mixtapes and everything, and bighit also gives bts a TON of artist freedom when it comes to making their songs and lyrics and concepts. namjoon is so so passionate about creating music and so is yoongi (i mean, it pretty much saved his life, ya know?)
honestly, if i was an underground rapper and was raised the opportunity to debut and be able to do what i love all while reaching a broader audience, then you know damn well i'd do it. underground rappers tend to just be really cocky and think idols get their success handed to them, lmao. which is false.

Let me just give a little bit of background about the whole Bfree thing, so basically there’s this stereotype that idol rappers are not actually rappers and that they only rap because they can’t sing, but they’re good looking so they can still be idols right? Idols in Korea are stereotypically supposed to be “perfect” overly produced people (I think this stereotype still lives very strongly especially here in the west and turns most people away from exploring Kpop). And RM’s original intention was not to be an idol, he wanted to be in a rap group and that’s why he joined bighit (and it’s the same for Suga too) so that caused controversy because people criticized him and said he was selling out or that he wasn’t a REAL rapper because he was an idol. Obviously this was really hard for him because he didn’t even want to be an idol in the first place, so he struggled a lot with his identity at the beginning of BTS’ career. But he’s grown and learned a lot since then, he’s so mature now. Even in his song “Do You” he says “I’m not rap I’m not pop I’m not r&b or hip hop” so these days we know he’s happier and doesn’t care as much about labels and just makes good music

B Free basically called them out for kind of abandoning the "true" hip hop scene to become these dancing idols. btw im so glad you're taking everyone in the rap line seriously. to me they are the strongest rappers in kpop, i've never seen any group of rappers with such HUGE charisma on stage. it all started from namjoon, but then in time i realised each one of them have their own musical intellect and rapping skills. plus you'll never be disappointed in their teamwork as composers and producers.

*LONG STORY WARNING*
Also about the namjoon and V part, when you said "formal". Basically in Korea they emphasis A LOT about age, which plays a huge factor in the way they talk to each other. There's 2 kinds of speeches(?), one formal and one informal. You use informal speech with people of the same age/ younger than you or anyone you're super close with, and formal speech with anyone older than you/ has more seniority or people you're not close with.
That's why you'll catch jungkook referring to all the members as "Hyung" which means "older brother" in Korean. He is not allowed to call them by their name only since he's the youngest. He will call them by their name followed by Hyung (e.g.: jimin hyung/ namjoon hyung). (but recently he's been slipping and you'll catch him calling jimin just by name only cause they've gotten super close and I think jimin is more lax with the formal speech off camera). Jin can speak to all the members in informal language since he's the oldest, and so you'll see him calling them by their names only.
The 2 kinds of speeches doesn't just apply to the way they call each other, sometimes the whole sentence structure changes. For example, "I love you" in formal speech would be "Sarang Hae Yo" and in informal speech would be just "Sarang Hae". Back in the day before they debut (if I'm not wrong) they did discuss about this speech and allowed jungkook to drop to informal speech but jungkook actually rejected saying that he would rather use formal speech with the other members as it's more respectful.
It's pretty confusing cause outside of Korea we sometimes even call adults/ teachers just by first name only, but you'll never see that happen in Korea cause it's considered suuuuper disrespectful. So yeah I'll stop here hahah, just a little nugget of information.

Acusing them of not being hip hop just because they're idols, when Bangtan actually tried to learn stuff coming to the US, to learn about the culture. And honestly, they are more hip hop and artists than a bunch of other people out there... they may not talk about the same things, but they talk about issues, about fighting the power, about getting somewhere from nothing and most importantly personal experiences, mental health and their struggles with poverty. If you’re interested, you should check out Jungkookies unhelpful guide to each member, they’ll give you a better insight! These introduction videos honestly leave out a lot of stuff, like RM’s mixtape or how Yoongi (Suga) and Namjoon have known each other the longest, or how he taught himself English and all that.

Yo check out "The Last" by Agust D to understand a bit more about why Yoongi was more reserved and could come off as cold especially back then. You can see how he smiles more and is just overall happier and acts silly and I think a lot of that has to do with how the members are always there for each other ^^

the video of RM backhugging Jin and RM asking Jhope to marry him is from their tour in Japan where they were given missions and had to fulfill them as part of a game. so Jin's was make a member hug you for 3 seconds and some other members had ones like "make another member say the word ARMY" or "make another member say 'lets get married'" lol for some of these clips you need some context
The BTS rap line is the exception and not the rule as far as bars go. Having real rappers is what puts BTS on yet another different level from most K-Pop groups. Most rappers in K-pop groups were TAUGHT how to rap so they don't have a real connection to it as an art form. They didn't care to learn it as a craft so they're not skilled enough to present it as art. It's really easy to give the FEELING that you're delivering 4 mics on every track with a language barrier but not all international rappers can stand up to the scrutiny of translation (and other international rappers). Turn the captions on (or find the mv version with captions) more often and you'll see what I'm talking about. "Dramatic Song," by Toby Turner truly does apply in too many cases.

about "korean flow," korean words are broken up into syllables, and they usually use the vowels of each syllable from one bar to rhyme the vowels of each syllable for the next bar (i can't r explain it but yeah)
but basically instead of mostly having the last syllable of each line rhyming, the entire bar sounds like it rhymes with each other

RM and Suga both knew because they were both underground rappers. Honestly at one point Joon honestly was having a hard time calling himself a rapper but being with BTS until a fan wrote him and told him words don't matter, what he believed mattered. How he felt mattered. It was a hard road for him and it took the support of the other six members and fans for him to really learn to love himself. In fact you should listen to his song reflections. From the Wings album. It's a solo song. I think you would like it but also at the end, when he sang this on tour the crowd would scream. We Love You over and over. I am hoping you listen to it so you understand why.

I feel like those Korean rappers try to compare themselves to American rappers(particularly black) standards, and it's funny because they will never be the same. Rather than taking it and making their own with it, they try to create a formula for it that's why, like RapMon said, they all end up sounding the same. They can do all of that hating, but no one even knows they exist outside of Korea. Korean culture and American culture aren't the same. All of that hate was unnecessary and just to gain attention. but they were helpful, because that's where our cyphers came from.
I'm an RM fan too! He's been my favorite from day 1. I just had this feeling about himd that made me pause and think, damn, this guy is the real deal.

Let's not even talk about the heavy influence that shipping had in the way the dynamics among the members were shown as well. I'm a shipper myself, but I wish they kept away from it when doing guides for people in order to not be influenced by it like it happened here. Unfortunately, these guides are the most famous in the fandom and once people watch them, they don't bother watching others or educating themselves through research in order to se whether what was being was actually true or unbiased. Like I said, it is a nice way to start off, but not something to take as absoulte gospel bc bias and misinformation is present in there as well.
i think these guides are fun to watch after you're a bit more familiar with BTS. They're useful for fans who just want to know their name/ their faces
I always cringe watching some of these like how she gonna add in something like “he likes girls w converse” like I want new stans to hear meaningful facts like how he taught himself English or something?! 🤦♀️🤦♀️

I mean, there's nothing necessarily wrong with that. It's those fun facts that add up to knowing somebody.
Of course, presenting actual facts is more important. Like, Jhope being a main dancer (which in kpop means >lead dancer) and choreo leader: they presented that wrong.
They aknowledged their mistake in the comments after some people have commented on it, but it's already a little too late seeing as the new ppl who watch these rarely check that out. AND they are confused about the way these titles are used in kpop to begin with, something that should be thaught go them. This is just one of the examples.

Suga is the dad of the group. He use to fix everything in the dome. He is someone who will tell you in your face when you did something wrong or if he disagree with you and don't afraid to hold back his thoughts. What he have been through make him strong and can be very harsh but he is the softest heart when it comes to his love ones! He is refer to as Swag, Genius, Grandpa, etc.....

Angie M That is so true too, if anything that is a better comparison since Kakashi faced difficult things but learned how to love team 7 which led to him being more compassionate. I totally agree. I’d say he has this side to him like do not mess with me side and Kakashi’s calm and collected thoughtful side when it comes to thinking about the other member’s.
I dislike how he sees Suga as an arrogant guy who just wants to show off his skills to everyone and is emo and doesn't care as much about his team. I also see him more as Kakashi since Suga appreciates team work and is hardworking (and he's sometimes kinda lazy haha)
