    SRL is my all time favorite fighter. A masterful boxer who never gave up and conquered every one of his nemesis and believe me, there was no other time in history with so much talent. Leonard went up against guys that were championship caliber and never backed down. Had he not been around, Hearns, Benitez, Duran and Hagler all had the means to be long time champions, but SRL always got in the way. These guys were all stars, every one with Leonard at the top of the heap. Grit and determination would carry him through. He should have never had those last two fights, coming after he should have already retired. Losing to fighters who wouldn't even have been close to his level in his prime. Camacho should have turned down that fight in 1997. Leonard hadn't fought in 6 years and was 40 at the time. I don't know if it was the payday, or trying to rescue a career of big chances turning into big failures, but Camacho took the fight knowing that Leonard was a shell of what he once was.

      You sound like Howard Cosell during this fight. Leonard could do no wrong, and Mayweather showing anything was just the result of him being taught how to be a Dirty Fighter. What a rigged way to end a fight. Mayweather was not only still on his feet but had pushed Leonard across the ring at the end. So please tell me how that equals a Legit TKO ??? Leonard was a Media Darling right from the Start, just like his idol Muhammed Ali. They were both photogenic and custom made for TV. Frankly, I think that Leonard looked like Crap in this fight, and although he deserved a unanimous decision, they had to FABRICATE a TKO at the very end just to keep The Lenard Media Legend Alive. Mayweather had an 18-1 record coming in, yet that Media Whore Cosell never mentioned him being a possible Champion someday. Was Leonard really THAT Much Better than other Great Boxers of his day, or did they just get Psyched On out the Media Hype about him as you apparently did ??? I say that Any Boxer who needs Delusions Of Grandeur to Win a Fight surely belongs in a Mental Hospital more than in any Square Ring.

      @@JosephKulik2016 Don't be ridiculous; Mayweather had already lost the fight, the only question is how. Its a judgement call as whether to let a fighter wo can't win get punished. You can often tell by looking into a fighter's eyes, something the ref could do but you can't. Leonard's record speaks for itself.

    You're right JoeyFudd, Howard Cosell could call a boxing match like no other, even though he stayed in the commentary game a little too long and said some messed up things about people near the end of his career; in his prime no one could touch Cosell. He even talked about Mayweather's cleverness, boxing prowess and skill, and even though he lost, Mayweather became a very good trainer.

    In 2011 Mayweather in an interview claimed that the reason he lost this fight was because he had a hair line fracture in his right hand. True or not, Leonard was just to much for him in all aspects of the fight game. Mayweather was a dam good fighter but Leonard was a GREAT fighter. Personally, I believe Leonard in his prime would have beaten everyone in any era in his weight class and yes that includes Sugar Ray Robinson. The man was that good.

Maybe the GOAT!

    that shoulder roll is indeed famous for the Mayweathers. Floyd Jr. followed his father's defensive play but in a more cautious measure. His father taught him this style, saying "son my life is over but yours has just begun". He continued "but promise me son not to do the things I've done. Walk away from trouble if you can. Now, please don't think I'm weak if I didn't turn my opponents' cheek. I hope you're old enough to understand. Son, you don't have to fight Manny to be a man." That's it!

    • @jeffmejia111
      @jeffmejia111 4 года назад +2

      Also standing 8 counts were not common in most states at that time. In the late 80's they became very common as a safety precaution especially in Las Vegas to help protect fighters from taking too much punishment but still weren't being knocked down. Like a Bobby Chacon wouldn't go down; he would just absorb punch after punch.

    By commentator, you mean the honorable, Howard Cosell. He's the only comm. who could be calling a fight you're watching and you'd honestly think you were watching another fight than Howy! At the end of this fight, Howard said Floyd was being given a standing 8 count when we all knew it was being called a TKO. It took Howard nearly 15 seconds to catch on. That was Howard!!! He's one of the few big media comm. who publicly stated that Ali was getting the shaft for refusing to fight in Viet Nam.

    Mayweather Jr. would never stand in front of his opponent and take that kind of punishment. Taking that kind of punishment shortens one's career. 😅

    I remember watching this at a broadcast location that cost a Ridiculous $5 per person! That took up a lot of Beer Money! Haha

    All you people can call Mayweather ugly all you want, the fact is, this is boxing, if you want good looks, go watch beauty contests. Regardless, Mayweather was a good boxer with tremendous heart and courage, he is taking monster shots throughout the match and is fighting valiantly. Show some respect.

    dude you must be out of your mind, no welter today can do what these guys did back then.. Floyd Sr is a Hogg and had the balls to back it up , theres is no questioning the mans heart and determination in that fight. He gave as much as he took

    Exactly! Floyd Sr and Floyd Jr's defense are very much alike. Like father, like son. Yes, they're both exceptional defensively. But no matter how they're good at that, hand and foot speed, flurry, stamina and punching power will kill it. Bad news for the Mayweathers, Pacman is obviously quicker than Leonard. 12 rounds seem just a jog work for Pac. The flurry of his punches is incomparable because the effects are almost all the same --- powerful and heavy!

    Mhenedeb - I agree .Floyd sr was able to out box Leonard in several rounds And had him confused in the first. If he had power the fight would of been more dramatic. BUT I think the size differense and power differense would be a problem for jr too.

    You could see signs of the same defensive style in the father that would go on to make the son into one of the greats. Brother Roger was also a pretty good fighter in his own right capturing 4 World titles in 2 weight divisions.Jr. Lightweight, 2 times Jr. Welterweight and the Welterweight Championship. Also he was the original Black Mamba long be that Basketball guy. All true boxing fans should know that. It's in the history books.
