This cover image seemed so mundane at first. Just a cozy house, SUV, and some beautiful cherry blossoms. Then I notice that weird plume of blue smoke. Some mysterious impending disaster.
Impressionism is often a genre emblematic of its time, born from the classical style and the talents of creators like Debussy and Satie hundreds of years ago. Even modern genre pioneers like Harold Budd and Brian Eno maintain rigidity in ther contemporary takes on the form: orchestral composition, either piano or synth as guiding instrument, and a clear feeling of bittersweetness/ whimsicality. Whimsy is a difficult thing to come by now. 24-hour news circuits bombard us with tragedy. Living simply becomes harder and harder. The internet, once a promise of infinite creative freedom and interconnectivity, corrals us into little skinner boxes, moderated by automated systems and algorithmically tuned to show us the ratio of spirit-breaking headlines and cat videos that will keep us scrolling. Christtt's "AD" is a wonder, creating Impressionism made for and from the information singularity. Each track is a collage of Broken Signal vignettes that violently transition between each other, like turning the knob on a radio or changing the channel. Breathless, heartfelt messages left on answering machines for loved ones to call them as soon as they can snap to saccharine pop hooks or glib newsmen announcing "global tragedy" in such a rush as to neglect elaborating. The immanence of tragedy in our world looms larger as Bruce Hornsby smoothly intones "Some things will never change...that's just the way it is." The album ends with "Walk the Earth," a sole vocal sample crashing onto itelf like so many "we'll take it a day at a time"s. There is a hollowness to this album. I can feel the perched-on-your-chest weight of "Another Disaster" that christtt depicts with justified angst and sincerity. But, what can I do by myself? I turn the channel, looking for an escape.
I keep explaining this album to my friends as if it were my doctorate's thesis. After 10 years of wave I'm still in awe that one could produce something this pure and flawless.

Nice album!!! I instantly recognised the "walk the earth" sample: Stay by Joe Jackson. "Night and Day II" is an underrated album and deserves as much love as the first "Night and Day".

These are a few clues I think are buried in the album, let me know if you find some more: 2:58: “At the tone, 16 hours, 59 minutes” Ezekiel 16:59, “’This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will deal with you as you deserve, because you have despised my oath by breaking the covenant.

You see the smoke. You know it's there, it's coming. But what can you do but sit and wait?

2:58:
“At the tone, 16 hours, 59 minutes”
Ezekiel 16:59,
“’This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will deal with you as you deserve, because you have despised my oath by breaking the covenant.
3:41:
“Today at 4:59, Eastern time…”
Esdras 4:59
59 "From you comes the victory; from you comes wisdom, and yours is the glory. I am your servant.”
@@christophersmith4299 4:59 PM is also 16 hours, 59 minutes
That slowed down out of touch hits on a level that very few "Slowed down" edits of songs can have.

About Burning Rain, I didn't even recognize it was Bangarang by Skrillex when I first listened to it.
