Hello Mr Hickok, I'm from Manaus, State of Amazonas, Brazil. This year my grandfather at age 91 gave me his original 73 winchester, it still have the original numbers and letters. The only sadly thing is, it was chambered in 44-40 winchester, this caliber is not very common around here... but elsewhere I'm very happy because this is a 150 years old gun, this is part of the american history, brazilian history and my family history.

@@wallbanger3Winchester couldn’t chamber the original 1873 with Colt’s 45 caliber because Colt wouldn’t sign a license agreement, although 4 years later in 1877 Winchester signed a license agreement with Colt that allowed Colt to manufacture their single action army in 44/40 Winchester.

@@notchagrandpa8875it was not because of the license agreement. It was because the original 45 Colt case only had enough rim to headspace in a revolver. It was not enough to work with a lever action extractor.

My grand father used to tell us about his days being a cowboy in the 1890's during his early teens. :)
Not all of them carried fire arms around the cattle, unless they were an area with a lot of snakes.
He noted he carried an old 410 single shot for those varmits. :)
He bought it for that reason because he had been thrown by a horse that was spooked by a snake.

The evening "rush" was on at a popular downtown restaurant when a Giant Panda walked-in, and ordered dinner. When the Panda had finished eating, it stood up, pulled a 9mm Glock, and began to spray the bar with gunfire, shattering the mirror, destroying most of the bar stock, and terrorizing all of the customers. The Panda turned and walked toward the exit.
"What the hell was that all about!" shouted the bartender.
"I'm a Panda!" replied the bear, "You got a dictionary? Look it up!" The manager of the restaurant went into the office, returning with a dictionary, and read the entry to the still-shaken guests and staff:
"Panda---A bearlike mammal native to the bamboo forests of China and Tibet. Eats shoots and leaves."

    Greetings to all!
I am the proud owner of two 1873 rifles.
One is an Uberti 1873 chambered in .38/357 with a beautiful walnut stock with blue steel with case hardening.
The other is a 1873 Taylor's and Company that has a beautiful "stainless " looking finish that is known as " in the White".
It is not stainless but of the same material as its blued steel counterpart.
It is to be cared for just as it was blued steel.
    Absolutely beautiful rifles!
I actually found out that my ancestors whom were actual "cowboys " actually owned and used these very same rifles in their lifetime.
It really felt good to know that African Americans Cowboys used a rifle that I and my father had been a fan of for many, many years.
I'm the proud owner of many Uberti and Taylor's and Company rifles and revolvers.
    Amazing firearms.

Yes--only today I picked up two 24 inchers in .357, one for me and one for a close relative. If Hickok had not made this look so fun with this rifle--who knows, we may have forever lived on not knowing the joy. Thanks.

Excellent video presentation as always! I have the same Uberti '73 as that but with the shorter carbine length barrel, 18" I think. A lovely rifle in handling, performance and beauty with the case hardened receiver. Thanks again!

Beautiful weapon, long range rifle. I'm a fan of Lever-action, a piece of turbulent american history. Won the test of time. They'res a reason you call them the brush gun, or rifle. Dependable, accurate.

I don't do cowboy shooting but I do own a '92 in 44mag. One reason I can think of that competitive cowboy shooters might opt for the 38sp is economy and not because they want wimpy loads. I haven't researched it but I'm willing to bet that costs of 45 colt is significantly higher than 38sp. Even if you hand load I'm sure the 45 colt holds a lot more powder than a 38sp. So if someone is a competitive cowboy action shooter and needs to be conscious of $$ it would make sense to run 38sp in both the rifle and the revolvers. Some of us kind of have to watch how much we spend on our shooting hobby. Oh BTW, another excellent firearm and video Hickok.

Next year, I am old enough to get a job (14) and I am planningn on joining Western Competition Shooting/Cowboy Shooting. All of the supplies I have is gathered online, with a total of $3,200! I am going to buy a pare of Cimarron Pistoleros in .357 Magnum/.38 Special, a Cimarron 1873 lever gun in .357 Magnum/.38 Special, and a Winchester Takedown Model 1873 in 12 guage. Wish me luck

Not sure if you'll see this Hickok45, but I just bought a Winchester 1873 30" musket with bayonet. Chambered in 44-40. Holds 17+1. Beautiful rifle. Only 5% of the '73s were the muskets. Happy shooting. Love the channel!
