    The Colt .45 Peacemaker is the most beautiful gun I've ever seen. I'm glad companies are making clones.

    • @WilliamJohnson-g6z
      @WilliamJohnson-g6z 12 часов назад

      I have to agree. Colt is my favorite firearm company. Then Winchester after that Remington and Ruger along with Springfield armory. But Colt is number one. Samuel Colt started an incredible company. The peacemaker is an awesome feat of engineering and ergonomics. The 1849 pocket model and the 1851 Navy were some of his first great designs. Another one of my favorite firearms is the 1911 Colt automatic. We can thank John Browning but Colt is the one that produced them in numbers.

    • @baronburgamot243
      @baronburgamot243 8 лет назад +42

      +hickok45 I don't mind the gun control so much, gun crime since the amendments to the the Firearms Act has gone right down - which is a good thing. It's just the petty restrictions on things like replicas and deactivated guns that annoys me as a collector.

    • @baronburgamot243
      @baronburgamot243 8 лет назад +16

      Luckily historic guns, like the old Colts, muskets and that kind of thing have been largely untouched. You still need and FAC/shotgun license to own one but at least you can still own things like blackpowder guns.

    • @dnieves1418
      @dnieves1418 8 лет назад +57

      +A.R. Bell (PS3: Alex_Talionis) While its nice that gun crime has gone down, wasn't that due more to the removal or organized crime as well as better economic standards? I mean with such strict rules in the UK , even if they were to allow semi automatic weapons again, there would not be an explosion in crime.

    • @baronburgamot243
      @baronburgamot243 8 лет назад +17

      dnieves1418 Not really no, economic standards, if anything, are worse. Knife and other related crime has remained largely unchanged for instance. As for organised crime, well if those types of criminals still want guns they can get them... Regardless of the law. But less guns generally = much less gun crime and that was the key idea behind the 1968 Firearms Act amendments that came in after the Dunblane shooting; it only took the UK one school shooting to restrict gun ownership.

    Thanks for doing a T&E of the 1873 Cattleman Hickok. I had one of the old Vaqueros, and even though I am a Ruger fan, I just didn't like the feel. Too bulky and I wanted a more traditional Colt type piece, not a fan of the transfer bar safety system. Sold it and picked up a Cattleman in the 7 1/2'' barrel. It is truly a very well made revolver and very accurate. Like you pointed out, there are only a couple of minor differences between the Cattleman and the Colt, so minor most people wouldn't even notice. I would say for the money you can't beat the Uberti 1873 Cattleman. BTW, would you mind sharing you favorite recipe for rolling your own .45 Colt rounds?

It has a different, internal safety (concealed inside the hammer!) without the extra notch in the base pin and has the classic Colt SAA look. The only thing different than the original Colt is while cocking you don't get the 4-click (or C-O-L-T click). You should check it out, it's pretty slick!!

    Hickock, a big thank you to you and John for taking the time to make these videos. I enjoy them very much!
    I handled a 4-3/4" Uberti Cattleman at a shop the other day, the owner explained that the firing pin on the hammer is spring loaded and inertia driven and would allow carrying on a loaded chamber vs. the solid hammer on the old Colts. What are your thoughts on this?

    I love my 4.75" blued Cattleman. Really nice bluing and I like the knurling on the hammer. It came with a perfect trigger with no creep at all. Shoots dead on with my 250gr Lyman cast bullets, as they do in my 1894 Marlin companion rifle. My Cattleman shot a little low when I got it and I just grazed the front sight a few times with a file to lower it and touched up the bluing and it's perfect.

    My teenage son was shot in the face with a 45 Long Colt. He was sitting right next to the boy who shot him. It has been nine months since the accident and he is recovering thanks be to God. It was a hollow point and fragmented in his brain but to make a long story short God had mercy on us and spared our son and healed him too. He is a miracle! I wish the gun we have had that safety, it has a hair trigger. I've thought of selling the gun but I'm not sure yet. Seeing this video is hard for me. It makes me realize that it is a miracle he didn't lose his head. I'm not mad at guns and I still carry mine and did even when my Son spent those months in the hospital because Indy is being taken over by gangs and felt the need for protection.

      I tell you the truth that it is a miracle. He had a traumatic brain injury, a stroke, lost his hearing and had to learn to do everything all over again except for speaking. He is doing great and is to see the ear surgeon this week to get an implant because he lost his ear drum, ear canal, the mastoid bone, and a piece of his ear but his inner ear is okay and the implant will make it so he can hear. He's now sixteen and is driving and nine months ago he couldn't even walk or feed himself. God has been so good.

      HoosierHomesteader1 Sad story. Too bad the other boy had not been even slightly educated in gun safety. These things do not fire unless somebody actually intentionally cocks the long hammer and then puts his finger on the trigger and pulls it. Several safety rules have to be violated in order to actually shoot somebody. Sorry for your experience.

    • @MrStew202
      @MrStew202 10 лет назад +1

      Aquatictoaster That is not what I said. They allow us to have single actions but getting one is extremely difficult. We have two main firearm class systems. One is non-restricted like a ruger 1022 and other rifles and shotguns. The other is restricted. If it is restricted, like all handguns in Canada, the process of acquiring one is more difficult than going to space.

      Watch more of the long range stuff in the other videos, happens a lot. That Gong is out at about 80 yards (I think?) and that's a fairly long way for a pistol round. .45 Colt isn't a seriously hot load, it's meant to be a short range man stopper.

    Hickok45, I have been in love with the old Colt SAA ever since I was a kid and played Metal Gear Solid on the original Playstation. Sort of sparked my interest in 'real' guns that game. Still don't own one, unless you count a Heritage .22 I picked up for plinking on the cheap. I wish you would STOP putting these videos out, every time you do I reach for my checkbook and have to talk myself out of spending $600 or more on a gorgeous handgun. Excellent Video.

      @51Wence 10 лет назад +1

      You don't need 600 bones to get one vulpixgrant. I picked up the old model (black powder frame) Cattleman a few years back for 360 skins! She has a super rich blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, and back strap with color case hardening on the frame and hammer, she is a looker! Plus she shoots like a million dollar mare. That should be enough to make you reach for the check book again. :^D

    • @vulpixgrant
      @vulpixgrant 10 лет назад +2

      That's good to know, the Ruger New Vaquero's are $600 where I shop, but they aren't real clones since they have the modern lock-work. I am still sitting on the fence between blued barrel cold blued frame, or all stainless. But thank you for the $$$ info, I will have to bug the shop to get some Uberties in ;)

    • @crazyfvck
      @crazyfvck 10 лет назад

      vulpixgrant I was on the fence about the finish too.. I really thought that I was set on a nickel or stainless Uberti Cattleman.. But then I saw one in the Old West finish (comes antiqued from the factory) and I fell in love. Looks almost exactly like Hickoks SAA from 1884... They did a great job. So that is the one that I am buying now :) Whatever finish you decide on, I hope you buy one.. They are awesome guns :)

    • @vulpixgrant
      @vulpixgrant 10 лет назад

      I ended up getting another gun instead, but it's rather similar. Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter, he has a video on one of those that made me want one. The Gun Show I go to offered to sell it to me $50.00 over cost, and I jumped on it never seeing one for that price :D Even ordered it in for me and all, that's why you stay loyal to one or two shops lol. But yes, the cold blueing is awesome looking on those guns.

    • @crazyfvck
      @crazyfvck 10 лет назад +3

      vulpixgrant LOL! Talk about ironic... Tomorrow I am selling my Super Blackhawk Hunter to a friend, and using the funds to buy the Uberti that I mentioned above :) (antique finish Cattleman with a 4-3/4" barrel.) I bought the Hunter 2 years ago and still have not fired it.. I too was inspired by Hickoks video back then, and decide to buy one. My main reason was that it resembled the old Colts, which I fell in love with as a child. But since I knew I could never spend the $2000 or so to buy a real old Colt, I settled on the Ruger. But now, thanks to Hickok, I know about Uberti and I am set on buying one of their SAA's :)
