$5 FIX: How To Fix a Broken Car Mirror
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
- Hey Guys! This is how I fixed my car mirror for around 5 dollars! The mirror broke off completely in one piece, and in the video I show you the easy diy way to fix a car mirror that has broken off. It is very simple, all you need is some construction adhesive and some tape to act as a clamp to hold the broken mirror back on.

Its been a month and a half of cold weather. I took the tape off after 2 days. It has been holding fine!
Will it hold up on highway driving?
absolutely. hasnt failed yet. been through 2 winters and hled up to going 120mph many times
Dylan's DIY Workshop Awesome thank you! I’m letting my mirror dry!
I need to make mine turn again
Dylan's DIY Workshop how much would it cost to repair only one side mirror ? Specifically for a g35.
JB Weld is cheaper and easier to apply. Just grab a tube at your hardware store. No need for a caulking gun. Since it's a two part epoxy, it will set up faster and cure harder. Mine lasted for 7 years in cold/wet Seattle weather.
cheaper probably. easier. not sure, with trying to mix up enough and not too little or too much. and then spreading it on. Id argue thats around the same difficulty level
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT 😄 am going to try it
Can I apply it in cold weather?? Or should I pull it into the garage with a space heater 🤔? Serious question
This happened to my daughter's car mirror, it got knocked off in a parking lot. So would I follow the same steps when I use the JB Weld on her mirror?

It's great to see car guys DIY-ing their own car repair. You get to save more money and learn your car more.
absolutely. I'm trying to fix my car now. it idels but no throttle response. here's a video of whats wrong with it in my knowledge. maybe you know what it could be ruclips.net/video/MLiIZevR-3g/видео.html
My mom hit her mirror about once a year on the our garage door it’s not funny but funny at the same time!! Nice video
+Zane Ash oh man that would just suck to hit the mirror off the same way more than once...
Thanks man!
Zane Ash that just happened to me it funny but not funny to me also because I gotta fix it
It happened to me eighteen years ago when I was 21and dumb. Lol! Now less than 24 hours ago it happened again, just in a different car. I’ve been so mad at myself after it happened, because it happened so quick and fast!
🥴😆😆
You don't have to plastic wrap the end of the caulking tube. Just squeeze until a little bit comes out the end of the tube and let it dry. It will act as a plug. When you're ready to reuse the caulk for something else, just pull out the plug - good to go.
awesome tip man!
Or we can do it the way we want
@@rjdatdude23 well its more so that its a time saver why spend the time wrapping it when its unneeded
Thank you so much for this video. Broke my mirror last night and your video helped immensely
Mine broke this morning. The inside is exposed. I’m to broke to buy new one. I’m gonna tape the hell out of it lol.
tuck tape and duct tape
You go girl, I was thinking about doing the same mfn thing. 🤣🥂🧡
Yessss,🤣😂🤣😂🤣 this just made my night . Careless ppl just don't realize how their 🚗careless driving really inconveniences us responsible people 🤙✔️👍🚘
Did the tape rip off ur car paint
no it didnt. it left some tape residue though
Great video, gonna try this the shop told me about 300$! Seems easy enough
This has held through the whole winter and to any speed the car has gone since
Woah man, Thank you!! i’m gonna try this very soon. My mirror got hit in a parking lot :/
This will be such a help to lots of people, Dylan! Awesome
+Make It Soph I really hope so. I'm sure mirrors fall off more than you'd think lol
hey dylan, wondering if there will be any difficulty removing the mirro and install a new one later on?
Worked for me!!! Spending around $13 bucks for the glue and caulk gun is a lot better than paying a shop $500. Thanks!!!
much better off!
How long did this fix last?
a long time. It didnt fail until something fell on it when it was parked in a barn
My mirror flew off while trying to pull in to get gas lmao. this video helped immensely and I appreciate you updating us 2 years later!
I'm pretty sure someone broke your mirror amd then put it back on without telling you.
Taking a corner usually doesn't break a mirror
You should be really proud of yourself. You see like a really cool kid. Smart and honest. It’s refreshing to see a young man your age with a RUclips channel that’s helpful and fun. Not like the rest of the world that’s just a bunch of idiots doing pranks or filling a bathtub with spaghetti and bathing in it. Lol
I really do appreciate you taking your time to comment. :-)
Shut up clown
i just crashed my moms car
I’ve seen this vid a few times but today is the first time I watched th whole thing. I thought fasure the publisher would be like 40😂😂
Hey , you NEVER mentioned , how long will it last ?? 😢😢😢😢
Secondly , the surface area , that your car mirror has , is huge , not all cars areade that way these days now the accidental BREAK of the mirror usually happens on the weakest line of contact , which is not have a huge surface area as in the video !!!! Please make a video about that realistically that's important. Rather than this kind of a fairy tale video 😅
Jb weld would be 10 times easier, and stronger....just get the double syringe epoxy for plastic that only mixes when you squeeze it out of the front.
Nice job for DIY-ing! Great method for a quick fix, Dylan. Just curious about that construction adhesive. What exactly is the type of construction adhesive you used here?
PL Premium by Lepage. This held up all winter and up to 120mph its still holding to this day and was applied once when the video went up
Awesome!
@@DylansDIYWorkshop what about the got summer months?
held fine since the video. 105° F down to -10°
Worth watching just for the blade in the handle trick. Nice
+Do It I'm really glad we both learned something new from this!! Thanks for watching!!
You can open the door and use a clamp overnight instead of taping for a way better result.
Unless it looks like rain...but what kind of clamp?
finnnne i'm gonna do it myself ! thanx lol
YEAAAA
Do you gotta hold it down for a bit of did the duck tape do the holding part good
My side mirror collided with a post. I was on my way to work. Luckily I had electrical tape with me. Ugh.
my neighbors are pricks and leave the cans in the street and its a one way street so guess what happened someone came by exact time i did and boom clipped my mirror
Meee rn
Lol imagine the poor sap who tries to replace the mirror correctly only to find a bunch of caulk blocking the proper screw holes.
the screw holes were stripped out with the mirror coming off
Would this also work if the entire mirror housing popped off from the car neatly and didn't break as bad? From what i can tell only the ring inside that holds the mirror on is broken.
always cool to help. man, who is that track flowing in the background
whats the background song? plz
what is the red tape called
It is better to get a heloing hand of a friend
My mirror is similar to this one, also a VW. But is broken the part where the red joints the black, and that part is hollow inside, i tried to use superglue but it didn't work. Do you think I could buy a new black part and try to join it to my mirror? Electrically it works fine.
I feel like it won't hold for very long
awesome awesome thanks for the video,,,,,i thumbs uped it at number 655
What’s the name of the glue you used ?
LEPAGE PL PREMIUM is what its called. Im from canada. so either order on amazon or find something similar
What is the stuff called that you used?
Great. Thank you so very much. I've only been using duct tape and that doesn't last.
How long did it hold up?
I crashed my side view mirror while exiting the car wash. Thanks for saving me! 😅
Did you take the tape off after it dried ?
eventually yeah
Thanks Dylan. I'm going to get the supplies tomorrow to hold my loose mirror assembly til I my mechanic can come and replace it . The mirror is not broken but it doesn't adjust.
I just broke my mirror pulling out of garage this works w any mirror?
haha nice i just taped mine too
We’re you still able to adjust your mirrors from the inside with the switch if you have one? Or is it basically stuck in one position?
I'm going to try just because of your shoes you don't spend no extra money. Thanks good looking forward
Is it still holding up 2 years later
surprisingly yes. I dont drive the car anymore and we scrapped it all out. but the mirror stayed on until we accidentally hit it with the tractor a month or so ago
I realize that I didn't use enough mastic. And, I should have left the tape.
What if the black part is cracked? Will this work?
+Judy Soto it depends on how cracked it is. What I would do is do my best to get that adhesive in between the two parts of the crack and if necessary I would break the where the crack is. I would try to part until it snapped. That way you could put the proper amount of adhesive between the two pieces they should go back together
Thanks for this right here ❤
Couldn’t you just buy a ne one lol ?
car mirrors are very expensive when you compare it to the cost of this fix
Just curious can you still adjust the mirror from inside your car or is it stuck in one place with the caulking
My mirror busted off as I was driving away from the McDonald's drive thru window.
glue er back on
Follow me I have more questions than
hey did was it okay with rain too? and snow?
Nice meme
+Sir DeKong meming on all the videos
Could I use boat tape or shipping tape without ripping the car paint off? Do you by chance know?
What kind of tape did you use?
Hey, this happened to my daughter's car so I have a few questions, how long did you have to keep the duct tape on after you put the caulking on the mirror? Also how long did this work? Did your mirror ever break off again?
a few days for the tape. it lasted for normal use for another year or 2 until I put the car in storage
@@DylansDIYWorkshopI checked and it says that the adhesive fully cures after 24 hours.. think that’ll be enough before taking the tape off? Asking cus I just put it on this morning and it’s supposed to rain tomorrow..
What kind of glue are you using?
PL PREMIUM
Well...........................................................? Did it work and hold up?
yes it did for over a year until it got broken by something falling on it while it was in storage.
Thankyou so much for this. Saved me a lot of money lol.Ill sub you.
Thanks bro you just saved me a lot of money u should put ya cash ap up
I dont have a cash app. But I do have patreon! www.patreon.com/dylan_taylor
What the think called? The thing you repair the car?
Lean a heavy piece of wood against it so it pulls in real tight. There is too much give in Tape.
😂 to the knee action
Looks a nice kid
Nice 👌🏾 my dumbass knocked the mirror off LOL!
One year later and I’m in the same position 🤦🏾♂️
rip man. hope you can get it fixed again!
I’m a new driver and it happened to me today, I was about to cry thinking I’m so dumb and maybe driving is not for me, but reading these type of comments make me feel not alone 🫶🏽
Bikers hate him
Is it still holding up? Lol
where can i find i gun thing like yours? is it necessary?
caulking gun. harware store.. not necessary if you buy the glue in a squeeze bottle
I’m hoping to try this on mine, it’s cracked and falling off but not all the way yet
Hope it turns out good
I bet a hot glue gun would fix this as well
I doubt that. I've never known hot glue to work well with things that receive any amount of force on them.
Haha. Red green would be proud
+Wes Hamstra Bhahahahahahaha I was actually thinking of him and that van when I was doing this :)
Dylan's DIY Workshop haha! The possum van
+Wes Hamstra Haha yeaa man!
This is Michaels mama can you put E6000 glue instead
not likely. being that there is dirt and the pieces wont fit together perfectly. you want something thicker like the pl premium I used. not to say e6000 wouldnt work. but from what I know id trust the way I did it more
Temporary fix . Someone hit my car and knocked my mirror off
my temporary fix lasted 2 years until I got rid of the acr
Thanks
LOL, Using your pants as a rag.
I’m gonna try this, fingers crossed. I’ll tell you how it turns out!
I hope it works out for you
Howd it turn out
Has it fell off yet?
That fire in the yard looks too close to the tree overhead....just warning you of the risk.
had a neighbor screaming at me about it. told her not to worry. I was there at the fire with a hose running the whole time
Well done.. Thanks.. and congrats...
I broke my friends side mirror. And what is the exact sealant did you use?
Pl premium. same as In the video
Need a c-clamp to hold that on
or enough tape
Can I drive the car with the tape on
I did
I'm about to try this How long did it actually last ?
hasn't fallen off yet. so however long the video has been up for ;) It was also frequently subjected to 120+mph wind speeds
@@DylansDIYWorkshop Is it still working?
still is yes!
the mirror is still on
Just saw this video . do you take the tape off afterwords mine is white
yeah i did take it off. if it leaves residue use goo gone to take it off
@@DylansDIYWorkshop you think it can stick even if it had wires and corner broke or chipped ? 😳😅🕵
with enough glue and tape. yes
So in the meantime I can just use tape?
uhh maybe.
O can't see you
Kakav majstor 😂😂😂😂
Hi, how long did this end up lasting you?
2 years
🙏🏽🙏🏽
will this method pass inspection
if there isnt any glue squeezing out. and you take the tape off. Im sure it would. as far as I know they dont dismantle your entire car when doing an inspection.
Hey Dylan. Why not get a job at the dealerships body shop, experience all day long, link them this link 100% hired.
OH HECK YEAH
Do you feel that the glue helped afterwards? Also wondering where you bought the glue?
the glue is what holds it. the tape is just there to hold it while the glue dries. you can get it at your local hardware store
Dylan's DIY Workshop Okay! Would you say that it worked well with no issues? Also Do you know about how long I have to keep the tape on to make sure the glue is in place? And were you able to drive it as it dried or didn’t drive for a couple of days as it dried?
@@DylansDIYWorkshop what kind of tape is the red tape you used? and, did it take any paint off your vehicle?
How long did it last
many years
🙏👍🔥👌😎🔥🔥🔥🔥
Do you think JB weld would work?
yeah. but it costs as much as the whole tube of the cement I used. and you have to mix it
well, is it still holding up??Please tell us. Thanks
It did for a couple years. Then something fell on it when it was stored in a barn. I scrapped it not too long after
Wow, thankyou for replying so quickly. I have a 2002 Golf, the mirror got bumped into and the little nodules under the triangular black housing part that attaches to the car...snapped off...need a good fix.A few years would be awesome, looks like it would have lasted longer if something had not fell on it. Thats pretty good
I would guess it wouldve lasted many more years of regular use. and when it finally did go you could just scrape/break off the dried glue and re glue it
@@DylansDIYWorkshop Thankyou, we will be doing that tomorrow. Awesome.
How long did you let it sit for
With the tape
a day
Is it still on tho
it lasted 2 years. Then I scrapped the car
@@DylansDIYWorkshop ima hit up home depot get the duct tape and the rest of the items.real useful video bro
@@retroknxfe824 let me know how it works out! if its really cold outside there like it is here, you might want to do it in a garage. and give the glue extra long to cure
