Great job on the install. A couple things you mite consider next time on a install .Look up a company here in the usa called Crutchfield they speciallize in car ,boat, and home audio when you order from them you give your vehicle application they will send everything you need including harnesses wiring diagrams , faceplates block off plates what ever u need to get the job done. And thier very reasonable.Been useing them for fifteen years
Cool video Paul, we like the ones that are on it now. Looks cool, plus trouble free too. We love all the work you guys are putting into Ole Blue. Really looking great and cool inside too. We like the rims that you have on it now though. Thanks for sharing guys, stay safe, take care.
Didn't know those were hub caps. They look great and go nicely with the style of old blue.
Worked eight years for Snap-on tools they make some quality stuff, even their Buepoint line is better than most other brands.
Anyway, always great to see what's going on up your way. You and Kathy take care.
Definitely stay with the wheels you already have. Ive always like the way they've looked, and wondered if they were GM wheels or not.
Video is helpful. I just got my hands on a 92 2500. Love the truck. Stereo was dead when I bought it. The only bloody thing it would do was display 1:00 then shut off. I ordered a kit and am about ready to install my own. But I am going a step further. 4x6 in the front is fine but rear speakers are going to be 6x9. Which requires heavy modification, Sound. Totally worth it. Thanks for the video.
What's crazy is 20 years ago I wouldn't buy a truck with power windows. It seemed like they always tore up and I thought power windows in a truck was just goofy. Turns out it's easier to fix them than I knew. Plus, when you get older and stop being so hard on everything, stuff may not even tear up in the first place, lol.
Another great vid Paul. I have those same wire strippers and agree, very handy. I'm going to have to get those shrink wrappers. I certainly hope you guys don't get more snow, man oh man. Those SS wheel caps are pretty nice in my opinion. The latter rack with lights looks really good too. Thanks again and you always manage to make me chuckle. Cheers!
Keep the rims you have on your truck.
Yes put the new rims on. I've also looked at those. Love the videos!
Truck looks good I'm digging the wheels or caps my 1993 has 203k miles and she still runs like a top and doesn't leak or use oil now the 4L60e Trans has given me trouble I have done replaced it three times I finally bought one from O'Reillys auto parts and so far so good the warrenty is better than any Trans shop keep that in mind keep being cool Paul. 💯👍🏼😊
I agree with leaving the stainless caps, especially for your area. I have, and love, many sets of aluminum wheels, but chloride on the road eats the clear coating, and corrodes them. Then they need polishing and clearcoating again. If they were 100% powder coated, it might be less trouble.
great video i wish i had this video fifteen years ago when i did my first one of these
Another great video! Don't sell yourself short... (no pun intended). These little video's are nice. As for the rims, keep what you have. If they look that good after 24 years why replace them. I can't wait to see more video's on OL' Blue. Take care.
Your truck is so clean! Your dash is in perfect condition. I just bought a 88 chevy 2500, once I fix my trans issue I will be doing this to my truck. I like your current caps, the others do look nice but wouldn't match the chrome look.
Thank you! Beautiful truck👍
I also think you should keep the rims ,Nice setup .
Nice job! The truck sure does look nice, not sure if I would do the rims although they are sharp! I like the old school covers. I guess I am kind of old school myself! LOL
Those alloys would look awesome on ol' blue!
Thank you for this video, it has really helped me. I would have been in big trouble if not for this video. Thanks Paul
That’s great Keith. Happy to hear it helped you out. Thanks for watching.
Truck looks great with that audio system. Kinda oem looking.
Paul, I've always liked the rims on your truck. Never seen anything like them and didn't realize they were caps. I think I'd likely spend the funds somewhere else as they look great and obviously upkeep is minimal to those caps.
cool video, learned a few nifty tricks about this install thank you, I will be installing a a new BOSS 616uab cd player into a 1993 gmc sierra k1500 stepside sport. Should be straight forward. Thank for the video 7 years later lol
You’re kindly welcome. Good luck with your installation.
Did it work? I recently bought a 93 and for whatever reason cheap aftermarket radio comes on but no audio
yes sir worked like a charm thank you@@MadAtMax.300Blackout
@@MadAtMax.300Blackout I wouldn’t think mine was cheap but mine worked perfectly. No issues whatsoever.
@@7863348 No, mine was lol. A $25 single din.
Paul, rims today are expensive and sooner or later old man winter is going to rust them up. I think those stainless steal rims with the blue centres (which match the colour of the truck) look great. An guess what, you'll never get frustrated with them rusting because they will never rust out. Now, if ya want to do so then get ready from some local guys to buy your existing rims. Wow, rims that dont rust. What a buy.
+Bob Rogers
That's very true. Points well taken. Thanks :)
Since your truck is used more for service i like the hub caps you have now. Going back to radio installation most people i have seen don't buy the kit and frankly looks like crap. On my truck it has power mirrors and of course one of them is broke. The dealer wants an arm & leg to replace it, but can buy aftermarket ones but they don't have the options that are on mine now. Sucks to be me! I had 2 new 1993 Chevy trucks and both of them had the same style of dash you have and i liked them. Great video as always Paul!
+Jake Schisler
Thanks Jake. I had to have it look clean. It was a lot of extra work but man it sure is nice. The sound is awesome. I posted it working on Twitter. Yes dealer stuff is crazy expensive. I didn't want many options on the truck and happy it don't have it.
Nice job bud! I would keep the stock rims. I think they go good with the Stainless/chrome accents on the rest of the truck.
+IHcubcadet
Agreed. Thanks.
Love your truck, I've got a blue '92 Chevy W/T and I just don't want to get rid of her.......ever!
The kit you bought without vent slots like the factory are a pain to remove vents if you need to. You will break a vent before you get it out. I made sure mine had the slots when I bought my kit. It goes in easy but wasn’t meant to be taken back out.
Keep the original wheels!! Enjoy what you are doing to the truck keep it up!
+Mike Sasso
Thanks Mike. Much appreciated.
I really enjoy this as k might be getting my grandmas 94 Chevy K1500 blazer for my first car!!
I'd keep the rims you have on now, but I put a set of BFG all terrian ko2 or Michelin LTX series or Latitude tires on her. I've had both brands on all of my chevy's over the years and have never had a problem with either brand. Kevin and Karen @ Poland's lawn care and landscaping and firewood.
Great stero mod and well installed. I would of loved to have seen the installed on the 5750 but I guess it's pretty much the same.
+TechStories79
Thanks. I put Infinitys in the 5740 and a Sony Xplod system. It's a great stereo. The install involved in removing the roof on that unit lol. Not as bad as it sounds.
Hi there Mr. Short , you have a keen eye so this is only me but I would want to see the new mirrors on the truck first before and the new rims do look good but will need looking after in your climate , I have bin keeping up on your side line and am very impressed with the detail you put it to your work , it's to bad you live so far away because you would have a new client . Keep up the good work the two of you have very good Chanel .
It's your truck so it is your choice. We all like different wheels/caps but I think those original caps you have are very attractive and I would stay with them if it was my truck.
Mickey Thompson Classic rims would look awesome.
very clean looking truck
Thanks Glenn . This is the latest photos of it. flic.kr/p/T9vugf
Stock Rims look awesome alloy rims corrode a lot if yah need to drive in the winter they are terrible. Good solid sidewall helps when your towing a lot too.
+Bill Fidler
So true. Thinks.
Old school rims!! 😍
Things have gotten to complicated in the name of convenience. But your install is top notch! Buying wheels is like buying a watch. It's very personal choice, but as I get older "maintenance or trouble free" seems really nice.
+wyattoneable
Thanks my friend. Looks like everyone likes the old wheels so they are staying.
Hi Paul, nice clean install, everything looks great, new wheels would be nice, but I still like the look of the ones you have now, your choice. Take Care, Hello to Kathy
+Marc B (Beacon627)
Just posted it on Twitter. What a great system. Hope your all doing well. Keep it that way friends.
Hey Paul! I think you should leave the stock hubcap stainless steel on there. They look great
Two thumbs up. Great video!
+mi2tn
Thanks buddy.
I'd say keep the rims. I love those hub caps from GM! Wicked nice to not have any rust/maintenance.
+Scott Warren
Agreed. They are staying. Thanks for commenting.
THAT is one SWEEEEEEEEEET 4x4 Mr Short :) :)
Like all the work on OL blue.
+Paul Sargent
Thanks Paul
Great video Paul I like look of those alloy rim it would look vary nice on the truck with the new tire..Have good day and God bless
i got a red chevy 1992 god these trucks are made to last a long ass time mine was a mud boggin truck before i got it ive babied it and changed everything on it wouldn't trade my ole girl for anything!
personally I would keep the rims and hubcaps you got , I have alloys and dont even live in a snow area and the alloys rims are deterioateing, have white spots on them that look like rot thanks for the video nice install
namvetseabee
+John Goodwin
Agreed. Looks like that's the majority of people's thoughts. I'll keep what's there but I'll make a small mod to them. Yes there will be a video on it ;). Thanks for your comment and for watching.
Hey Paul, my opinion for what it's worth is that ole blue looks good with the wheels and stainless low maintenance hubcaps. Looks good. Also alloy wheels require a bit of work to keep them looking good, especially with the salt used in your long winters.. Good Luck
+David Warden
Thanks David. Looks like everyone likes the old wheels so they are staying.
Loved you video I just picked up a 94 GMC k2500 ext cab 4x4 and plan on changing out the radio. The radio has been changed before so I want have to remove all the factory stuff, thank God but I just wanted to watch some videos before I start. I also plan on doing the same with the mirrors, getting a set of pull outs myself to replace the factory ones. Never could understand why they put small mirrors on a big truck? Again thanks for putting out a great video with lots of good pointers, I'll be back.
Thanks, Jerry
Happy to hear you enjoyed the video. Congrats on your new truck.
Thanks again for the reply on both post, I really enjoy your post and find them to be very informative and helpful. For a shade tree guy I love being able to overcome and conquer the repairs on my truck. I guess that's the old U.S. Marine coming out in me, and I carry that with humble bad a@@ attitude.
Good day and God Bless
No problem. I’ll have a look at mine tomorrow (I’m bed ridden today sick with the flue)I’ll see if there’s a manufactures name on it. I’ll snap some photos and and attach the links for you compaired to what’s out there.
Your kindly welcome. Thank you for your military service. Both my sons are in the military so I have a slight idea what you went through. Keep safe sir.
Hey Paul, I gutta agree with your synopsis on operating these new fangled electronic computerized digital radios. Nitemare trying to learn them. The manuals that some of them provide are as big as a Funk and Wagnalls encyclopedia, plus they're all translated from Chinese to English, and don't work too well. But nice job on your truck.
Thanks for the video it will help
Like 👍 you’re videos buddy wish you could work on my truck look’s really nice
Paul, if you hit the original faded trim with your heat gun you can restore most of the color. Just don't leave the heat gun on it for too long, don't want to melt anything. lol
wtg Paul one job that will be a great thankful that it is done with lol , very long process when you change to update your toy very good job so far Paul , those rims that you showed looked great to put onto the truck cool beans lol , you have the final chose ?????? well good luck to complete the truck an ty for the video Paul be well be you take care an also for Kathy later Stephen
+stephen m kollar jr
Thank you my friend. Yes it takes time but I'm getting it done. Some nice additions and the truck feels good. Kathy says hi. Have a great day.
Great video...The ION ALLOY wheels will look good on your truck, but I like the stock look.
+kboy980
Thanks. Seems yours is the popular opinion.
keep the stock wheels they look good and you would knw if you had any issues w them lol tires no conti or Pirelli seen them crack after a year nice vid thx
Hi Paul and Kathey i know lots of people like the old rim but the one you show us would look very sharp on your truck for the tires i would go with Michelin LTX M/S ( M/S is for mud and snow) you can order them in Cosco it my third set on my truck and the next set will the same tires again i also have an older Truck and it look mint , now that a big one for me because i know you love you Truck ,but with all my respect please don't take that personnel it just a suggestion, but if i was you i would change the Bug deflector and change for a different style, beautiful OL BLUE will look sweet GOD BLESS
+Gilles Godin
Seems 80% of all viewers are going with what's there now so I'll keep them. As for tires I'll go with Coopers. My friend sells them also Michelin has been under new ownership and they are making their tires differant now according to my friend. Not much in accessories for a 1993 model anymore so that deflector will have to stay but I do appreciate your opinion and thanks for watching. Keep well.
👍 up on the wheels
I've got a 91 that I've done this on wish they had different size speakers. you can buy a headliner from lmc truck with 4 6.5 speakers in it with a center storage and lights
Definitely a nice obs
The original Wheels look great
I think the SS hub caps are unique and look great. Your truck sets a lot and I have had trouble with some alloy wheels loosing seat when not used regularly. Don't know if you have experienced this, but just a thought.
Thanks Sir Paul!
+Richard Butterfoss
Thank YOU ;)
Hey , hello Paul , i found your channel about 1 month ago , and gee i love your stuff .Professionel , secure ,with a lot of humour.,I wish been living near your place ,because i like what you do and with your lovely wife !!!! .I worked on cars and mechanic too since 14 years old .If i woulded have a teacher like you what difference that woulded made.Any way keep it up ,I encourage you very much your are my type of working force and i learned a lot from you .Bye and talk to you soon and i don't know how you find the time to do all the videos but i do appreciare them very much.Don' t listen to the negative comments from people who sommetines don't do 1/2 of what your are doing .( if you can = could you indicate the setting on your mig welder when you use it , because i am a new welder and it will give me some ideas, voltage and wire-feed ) bye and i like you and Cathy a lot .( excuse my writing and fault , i am not bilingle but i took a chance writing this to you )
+S Faucon
Thank you very much. Kathy and I appreciate your kind comments and we are happy you like our videos. I will tell my settings from now on when I weld. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment.
Have a great day.
Cheers. Paul
Just MHO, having the GM rims, I would say if you use a lot of salt there and the salt air,, the Alloy rims while are super nice looking they will corrode up if the clear coat cracks or chips,, Here in Pa they use lots of salt and my wheels turned to crap ,, so steel wheels in the winter summer they get changed back
+Skeets K
Same thing up here. New machines with corroded rims. I was on the fence so I wanted to hear opinions. Looks about 80% want to keep with the same rims. Thanks buddy.
Custom Mod Challenge ..... backup camera screen in the dash where the old radio was.
+Brad Johnson
Way to large for that opening. I would have to modify the dash to make that work. For a custom truck I'd do it but not for 'ol blue ;)
this is a nice Wheels we're going to put some big wheels tires on it how about airbags I like your truck
I like the old ones> They are classy\
+gopha533
Thanks buddy. Old one it is.
Can the air vents be re-routed so they're where the radio is and the radio end up where the vents normally are?
just my opinion mr short but these older trucks from 1967-200 were the best . but i really love the 1988-1998 that's why i have three of them . a 92 chevy to plow with and move my buddys. lol a 94 stepside bought on a limb and that's just to go cruising to the friday and saturday car shows. and a 99 suburban for everyday driving . all 5.7 350s and k 1500s . i'm mad one of our local voniters fire department just auction off a 1999 suburban with a 454 k 3500 that had 13,000 miles and of course all fancied up with there lights and gold leafing now they were removing all there rescue lights and company name badging but you know how public auctions go someone in the organisation gets word of highest bid and goes 5 bucks more i did have a 5000 dollar bid thinking by the time i fixed all the holes and changing fenders from all the lights and do dads that was fair
Great job ! To bad the lcd screen wouldn't fit where the new open compartment is !
+Mitch S
Yes I thought about that as well but didn't want to tear into it just for that. Major mod to make that work. Thanks
What kind of wiring harness would I need for mine , mine is a 94 gmc sierra
Paul, like the idea of the rims but not black on ol blue. Need to have chrome to keep with the rest of the truck.
+Duncan Rycheck
Agreed :)
Great old truck Paul , but I've got to say I don't like bling on work trucks .... Chrome of any kind is a real no no for me but on the other hand everything u have on your GMC is original pretty much ..... So I reckon you should keep it that way ! Not many original old trucks left
+David Deans
Thanks David. When I bought the truck back in '93 it wasn't used as a work truck. I was a service manager at a GM dealership and I customized the truck for advertising. Pretty well everything on it that shines is stainless steel except for the front bumper guard. It only turned into a work truck since starting Specialty Repairs but it's very well cared for. I'll leave the wheels as they are. The lighting and the stereo are safety and modern upgrades but I'll always keep the original items that has been removed.
Paul in my experience, aluminum wheels are for obvious reason, much less resistant to flat spotting.
+Stephen Luciak
Ya but there's the cool factor too 😎
Well if I did not see you do this upgrade I would have thought it was always part of the truck as it all fits in so well. Regarding rims what ain't broke why fix, it will take it away from it's natural awesome look bro.
I think you should keep the original rims
Keep the rims Paul. They suit the era of the truck. Those cast wheel styles go out of date, your rims are unique. Buy Kathy a new handbag instead, HA! All the best from the UK.
Thanks Paul, I was just wondering what the thing sticking out of the right side of the stero is?
+Dennis Coyle
That's a USB stick. It got over 2500 songs on it.
Do you know of anywhere I can get one of those springs that hold the vents in? I can't find them anywhere online
Do you have to Solder the wires together or is that optional?
Thia video really helped my install go super smooth.
I was curious if you know of a replacement dashboard manufacturer. Mine is completely cracked, and I want to restore it. Thanks in advance
Happy to hear it helped you out. As for parts. I’ve used this company. Great to deal with www.lmctruck.com/chevy-gmc-truck-1973-1987
that's nice,,, where did you get that a/c unit for the dash,, if you can spare some info,, thanks
Think OL'BLUE could use some air horns.👍🏻
+Nick Spector
That's a thought
Please let me know if you kept the old stereo system
What's the name of the dash cam install video? +paulshort
Lastima que no hablo inglés pero buen video bro
Oye, no te preocupes. Gracias por tomarse el tiempo de mirar y comentar. Muy apreciado.
Also what center console do you have?
Where did you get that center console and how’s it holding up? Thx. Nice job on the system btw
That was purchased back in the mid 1990’s. It’s in perfect condition although it’s not used anymore because I replaced the complete seat with a GM seat out of a 1998 truck that has its own console. Thanks for watching.
firstly; your truck is gorgeous! secondly; I noticed the display and browsed the comments to find it was a back up camera? where could I find one of these?
Thanks. Here's what your looking for ;)

How much was the cost of install considering the amp
Fix it dear Henry...he he he
those are aftermarket wheel covers the factory gm ones look differnet
Nope. I was a service manager at a GM dealership back in 1993 when I purchased the truck new and those GM stainless steel wheel covers were ordered by me from the GM parts catalog with the GM centre’s with GM part numbers.
Where did you get that A/C climate control unit? I need one for a 92 k1500.
Keep them they look good and they are factory.
where you get that center console?
I have a question regarding wiring I wS hoping you could help me with.I have a 93 gmc sierra
the wiring harness adapter that came with my install kit has 5 wires I'm not sure where to connect to.
Adapter harness has 5 wires (blk, orange, red, blue, yellow) and I'm sure if I simply match the colors for intsall to my deck.
My deck is a kenwood kdc-BT31OU.
Red-Ignition
Yellow-Batt
Black-ground
any help you can give i would greatly appreciate it
Paul keep the stainless steel wheel covers, they look great. What is the thing sticking out of the new stereo?
+John Warden
I did keep the wheels. You'll see that in a video we did two weeks ago. The thing sticking out is a USB stick with 6500 songs on it.
Hello. thanks for the video. I installed a new deck into my 94 GMC sierra. Everything was fine until I installed the 4th new speaker. Then my deck would work at all. It just said miswiring issue. I was wondering how many fuse could be connect to this issue. Or do you have any other thoughts on what my problem could be. Thank for any help!
Sorry to hear about your install. If it were me I’d simply go back and recheck every wire to make sure they are installed properly. Maybe you have one or two in the wrong place which is easy to do because the colours can be very close and easy to mix up. Maybe a defective unit?
@@7863348 thank you for your reply. I used easy harness on all radio and speaker connections. And tried two different decks. So I'm stuck. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm of the opinion its a grounded speaker. But I've taking out the speaker and still no change.
You still could have a defective harness. I’ve seen them wired wrong in the past. If all else fails you may need to go the more complicated route and wire it from scratch. Other than that bring it to an automotive audio installer and see if they can sort it out. If you were next door I’d look at it but we don’t have that option.
@@7863348 Thank you so much for your advice. Much appreciated! The speakers were grounding out against there metal frame. Have it all fixed. Thanks again
IMHO, original rims please.
The stainless steel looks great.
After market alloys never look like the belong.
Well never is a little harsh. It's like saying Highland green and American Racing Torque Thrust don't mix (Bullitt).
