      Well, it does of course. They have an exhaustive safety program and training and outside independent advice sought, before they OK a stunt with their name on it.
      Just one death because they didn't do due diligence . . . their entire brand is damaged. A brand worth 10.55 billion Euros last year mind you.

    I witnessed this guy in 2012 his name is
    Felix Baumgartner. He jumped from the stratosphere 39 kilometers above Earth, which is still inside Earth's atmosphere but much higher than commercial planes fly. He wore a special pressurized suit and survived the fall, breaking the sound barrier in the process. ❤ a sight I would never forget in my lifetime

      I had the same thought... no mention of who he is?? I saw the capsule on display at the Air Force museum in 2014, and at the National Air and Space museum in 2018. It is honestly an impressive feat!

    I was about 14 or 15 when my father called my siblings and I to watch this event live from his laptop. I thought it was incredible for a man to do this, but I could never imagine the work put into this. It is nice to understand all these years later!

    A weather balloon does not take you to space. he would have been about 35ish kilometers high, in order to jump from what we consider space he would have to have jumped from about 4.5 times the height he jumped from.

      a) The spectrum of satellites is wide. The record for the lowest satellite is 165 km, the ISS is at 400 km, geostationary satellites are more than 35000 km away from earth
      b) You don't "end up in orbit" because you are high. You need a sideway speed of 28000 km/h to stay in low earth orbit. That only works when a rocket accelerates you to that speed. If the rocket would just go straight up, it falls down.

      @@sailorman8668 I quote the video title as sarcasm, my primary message was not the jump was not from space but to people watching it to remember this jump was not the first nor the highest, just the more advertised.
      And once you are above 40 km altitude the problem remains the same : you need to be fully pressurized, you need a full life supper and thermal management of the suit, it is very difficult to stabilize the fall and avoid thumbling.
      Basically the higher you go the longer you will spin, the higher you risk of passing out, the higher the maximum speed.
