Most other visual novels, I wouldn't even touch an anime of. They're usually just cringey fan service, all the way through. But Nekopara, I think I'll give it a chance. I honestly see this being a fun, cute animation full of cat related humor.
It depends on what kind of Visual Novel we are talking about, Steins Gate was originally a visual novel as well.
Most fanservice visual novels are simply known as galge (ギャルゲーム).

*Saya no Uta* is my favourite visual novel, but it would never possibly get anime adaptation as we all known for obvious reasons (gore, sex and horror for most people doesn't sit well).
Steins;Gate, Fate/Stay Night, these VN's got great anime adaptations. But I'd say they're also kind of the mainstream ones, in a way. It's the lesser ones I'm referring to. The people behind the anime adaptations of those VN's seemingly don't trust their success, so they pad it full of fanservice. "Majikoi Oh Samurai Girls" is a great example of a stellar VN turned into a trash anime.
Plus fanservice. But it's always necessary
grisaia no kajitsu had the steam version without sex, although there is underwear scenes at least once(i got the unrated version when i found out i couldn't patch it and stopped playing the steam version) so you might be able to show it to whoever guilt free (40$ so be prepared to wait for sale however)
