We all know Brian's autobio would be called "That Depends... The Pursuit of Nuanced Opinion-Making with Brian Goulet". 😂
"I touch pens" sounds like a confession in a group therapy session. "My name is Brian and I touch pens." "HI BRIAN!"
OMG LOL 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for spelling pens correctly else this could've went in another whole erection.
My vote is with Drew. I always remove any ticky-tacky stickers that I find on my fountain pens.
I agree, remove stickers. I think many podcast hosts keep them on is as a way to maintain value for possible future sales.
I bought a vintage all metal pen with the sticker still on. I'm a "remove the dang sticker" girl. Took this one off & the metal body was discoloured where the sticker had been! Have tried everything to remove/polish out the discolouration but it's still there! Perhaps this is one for Brian to dive into as to the chemistry causing this reaction, lol! Love you guys! x
"Coffee is delicious, the sky is blue, and you should take your sticker off every time." It sounds harsh to say one would be a monster to disagree with any of those, but sometimes the truth is harsh. Drew is 100% correct.
Drew: "Safe question: How wet is water?"
Brian: "Well, I though about this question and ended up going down this rabbit hole. What kind of water are we talking about? Are there different types of wetness? How does humidity factor into this? I found a website that discusses the different types of wetness according to over a hundred different types of water, and here are my findings....."
Drew ***staring and fiddling with his fountain pen***
Gosh, I love the rabbit hole talks you guys engage in.......thank you for being you.
As someone who goes down a rabbit hole or two myself, I love your deep dives, Brian! I learn something very interesting that I didn't even know I needed to know. 😂
Actually, the "wetness" of water depends on its surface tension. Surface tension is what causes water to "bead up" on a surface. To make water really "wet" requires the addition of a surfactant to decrease the surface tension of a liquid and cause it to spread out. It's the same stuff in your dishwasher and in the car wash that gives you the spot free rinse. So, relatively speaking, water really isn't that wet. 🤣😉
@@j.s.matlock1456 indeed! Also, making water wetter is the ticket to creating an amazing super bubble solution. 🧼🫧🫧 …but I digress […]
…me and my oddball hobbies… 😋
I haven’t gotten through the whole pencast yet but I just had to comment about the heartwarming feeling i got from hearing you both talk about your auto biography titles. The love and respect you have for each other is one of the main reasons I watch. It speaks volumes to the type of humans you are and it’s really encouraging to know that there are business owners that TRULY care about their employees. When you’re ready for the biopic, hit me up, I’ll make it happen. 🎬 Thanks for keeping it real Brian and Drew💜
Thanks for saying that! - Drew
I would actually listen to 2 hours of drew talking through his pen collection. I want details - all the details!
Me too!
Special Edition Pencast next time Brian is out of town or sick!
I agree! I feel like Drew and I have similar taste in pens when it comes to writing experience. The e95s is my first gold nib pen and I love it, use it every day. And my brand new Visconti Mirage Mythos is like a dream. Everyone I've let try it is amazed. So Drew, I need more context here for why you love these pens!
@@mar1nka. I also bought e90s (EF nib) as my first gold nib based on Drew's reviews and love it. While I do love me some broads, wet stubs and music nibs, the finer nibs are an absolute delight for me so I always pay attention when he raves about any extra fine or fine nibs. But i think I'm curious about the Visconti mythos more now after you mentioned it.
Totally agree!
Did anyone else get emotional when Drew was giving his speech about how great Brian is? 🥰
Drew has a future in ventriloquism using modified capless fountain pens.
The official start to the weekend!
Hi there, artist here, on the topic of Orange, it's an extremely narrow part of the spectrum subjectively. Unlike blues which are a fairly wide part of the spectrum in what folks would recognize as 'blue' or 'a blue', orange can easily veer into copper, terracotta, peach, salmon, coral, or directly into pinks, reds, and yellows. When it comes to ink, Sailor Kin-Mokusei is my current go to as it's very rich, shades nicely, and has a reddish sheen. Iroshizuku Yu-yake also works, though it has a slightly more pink tone to it. Hope this helps!
Pencasts stats:
Average length of video : 1 hour, 53 minutes, 56 seconds
Total length of playlist : 7 days, 8 hours, 36 minutes, 14 seconds
Don’t carry watermelons eh ? And speaking with your mouths full is a no- no.
And I've just been through the entire catalog. Got into fountain pens two months ago, and absolutely fell in love with the Pencast
I don’t often watch the pencasts as they can be a little long sometimes, and I dislike cutting off in the middle of them if the need arises. In this case, I was watching something else, fell asleep and woke up listening to Drew cackle about pulling Pilot’s stickers off while Brian was giving Drew’s looks that would freeze “Johnny, Flame On” in the cartoons! I woke up, rewound (started from the beginning) and watched. I loved the part in which you named each other’s autobiography’s. Now, I don’t know Brian’s life to save my soul, but he seems to be the genuine article from this side of the tv screen out here in RUclips land. It truly was a blessing to hear such nice things said about someone you work with (& for). Drew, your stock just jumped up 25 points in my book. Thanks for all the effort and work you both show through these videos. May your lives and business continue to thrive and increase for the both of you. 👍😎😇🙏
My SchonDSGN copper and brass pens are two of my favorites in my collection. I'm a converter lover, but I love my Schons so much I syringe fill cartridges for them all the time.
I wear bright shirts (and shoes) too. I'm an introvert, but I still love it when somebody says, "Cool shirt," or, "I love your Vans."
I mix up my own perfect orange ink. Mine is three quarters DeAtramentis Document Orange and one quarter DeAtramentis Document Dark Red. It looks cool, and bonus, it's waterproof. (I like to use waterproof inks when I'm writing in recipe journal, because I use it in the kitchen.) You could easily adjust my proportions to get your perfect orange. 😄🍊
Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait to try that for myself!
1:01:37 wow, such beautiful words from Drew to Brian ❤️
48:09 YES! YES! Take the damn sticker off. I’m with Drew on this one. The sky is blue, coffee is tasty, take the sticker off.
My husband is Japanese. He also hates powder on his fingers when eating snacks.... Sooooo he uses chopsticks🥢 to eat chips and other snacks out of the bag! True Story😂
I started doing this during lockdown while I was eating chips while working from home. I said I was keeping the greasies off the keysies, but it's extended to rest of my life now.
That's clever!!!! I hate powdery and greasy fingers
I've done that! - Drew
That is SUCH a good idea!! 😂❤️ I must try it 😍🙌
An orange that never disappointed me: Jacques Herbin Orange Soleil. Vibrant and readable. It’s just a pure orange… maybe not exciting enough for you Brandon but it is loveable.
I agree.
I just got my sample set and Jacques Herbin's Orange Soleil is my absolute favorite! It is exactly what I was looking for: ORANGE! Now, I'm just waiting for the whole bottle to arrive. Thank you for your excellent suggestion!
🧡🍊 I feel SEEN!! 🍊 🧡 Thank you all for all the great suggestions! I'm filling up my shopping cart with the recommendations!
J. Herbin Orange Indien is beautiful and very readable.
Or you can just mix the inks yourself. But to stay safe, just see to it that you keep within the same brand. Myself, I put Noodler's Dragon Napalm in a bottle and add, drop by drop, Noodler's Red/Black (or Brown) until I get the result I want.
my favourite orange is Pilot Iroshizuku Yu-yake, (aka Sunset). 🔆🔆🔆
I’m a Diamine Pumpkin man, myself.
Sheaffer Retro Sunset!!!
Parker, Sheaffer, and Waterman are the brands I used 42 years ago when I started using fountain pens. The inks I used at the time were Parker Quink blue and blue-black.
I do miss Parker Ruby though...
Ah, my very first fountain pen, 60 years ago was a Parker 45 was a Parker 45 Convertible. I had to use cartridges. Quink ink blue black, one of the colors of my childhood
Ahhh!! I quite literally let out a massive squeal when I saw the picture of Felix, Dinah, and Hank! Thank you so much for sharing your lovely corgis! They are adorable
Regarding your familiar voices, we were at the Triangle Pen Show and my daughter was at a table and she heard someone speaking and she thought, " I know that voice," and turned around and it was Drew. She got a cool photo with you.
A hypothetical for you both- I tend to make pricier pen purchases in honor of major life events. If you were each given a range of $200 to $300 to purchase a pen to specifically commemorate an event in your lives, what event, what pen, and why? Event can be past, present, or a future planned event.
(Brian- this is Bonnie from the EOS conference, & Drew, this is “Bonnie with an I-E” from the Sf pen show 😄)
OMG!! I didn't think Drew could be any cooler. Then he goes "BAM!!" like Emeril and shows off the Corgi trio. Thanks for the awesome feels.
My favourite orange ink is Monteverde Fire Opal. Gorgeous!
Eeek! Drew's pen collection...thanks for taking my suggestion. 😊 OK going to actually watch now:)
Orange just feels like an underappreciated color... but those of us who love orange, really love orange! I totally consider all the peachy, salmon and coral inks as part of the orange family. You add any yellow to your red/pink and it's ORANGE 🙂
Thank you, guys, for today’s podcast. Giggles kept bubbling up throughout! Appreciate your content each week and look forward to the weekly podcasts.
Brian and Drew, your autobiography titles were spot on. Your vulnerability and openness with each other was so touching. It why I watch the pencast, because each week I feel like I'm sitting down with friends and nerding out over pens.
Me too! I wish I could find someone in my life that likes pens like I do. Whenever I mention pens peoples eyes get all glassy and I know they aren't listening.
World of Orange. Having grown up in Orange County California and perpetually looking for that representative hue, there are two you did not mention that perhaps deserve attention: Iroshizuku Yu-Yake and Montblanc Lucky Orange. Yu-Yake is a bit more subtle but still quite a useable true (IMHO) orange. While Goulet doesn’t sell Montblanc, I picked up Lucky Orange in a Montblanc boutique. It is a highly vibrant, highly useable true orange. These would be my recommendations. LOVE THE PENCAST!
I have a feeling that Drew's vanishing point cap "came off" as Drew was meticulously fighting to get all the ink out of his pen. 🙄😮 Love how he just tried to brush off Brian's questions and started making his pen sing! 😅🤣😂
OMG! Drew showing his pen collection with the vocal Descriptions was so funny but I really cracked up when he was doing the big mouth Bath with his finishing point pen! That was hysterical!
Drew is right about lasagna not needing to be made with ricotta. You can replace it with a creamy bechemel sauce.
Yup in italy they never have ricotta,, as far as ive seen
In Rome and some other places I've been to, they make it with bechamel and bolognese sauce. My aunt from Le Marche makes hers with tomato sauce, grated cheese and little meatballs. I think that ricotta is a southern Italian thing - most of us in this country descended from southern people (in my case, Calabrese).
@@elisaastorino2881 you're probably right. I visited Sicily and Naples but I failed to actually find lasagna there where I decided to eat at! I had a feeling it was southern, but not in the way Americans do it I think. Lol we get so much wrong. I'm in Rome now, I've been here for a few years at university. I'm lucky to be well acquainted with the two styles mentioned. I haven't tried it with polpettine but it sounds good. So many wonderful variations of food here in Italy.
I have also substituted cottage cheese in any recipe calling for ricotta cheese. I find ricotta chese to be a bit gritty but the cottage chees is creamy.
My favorite orange 🍊 ink is 'Sailor US 50 States Florida'
Thank you Drew for showing us your collection. What I really want to see is the collection of your new team member, so we can watch it grow for years to come.
Where do I start?!!! 😄
Yes, the stickers on my Pilot beauties are immediately removed and adhered to the plastic sleeve they came in. (Not sure why I feel the need to keep the sticker or the sleeve but there we are….) ☺️
I could’ve watched Drew sing along with his broken Vanishing Point for hours! 🤣 I’m glad I was working at home today or I would’ve alarmed my coworkers with the thunderous belly laughs!!
What two things arrived to my home this week? A 743 in Verdigris AND a Japanese Maple “Orangeola”! Obviously I’m rather susceptible to Pencast goodies….
Thanks so much for the link to the Rice University article and the list of viable orange inks. And the Schon DSGN Pocket Six.
Drew, I understand wanted to be noticed, but not spoken to. As a self-published author (who writes his first drafts with fountain pens), I want people to notice and review my books, but don't want people talking to me. When a random strangers decides to talk to me, I usually look scared, and say, "You can see me? Oh no!"
Loved seeing Drew's pen collection .
Monte Verde Copper Noir is a fantastic orange ink. Great shading. Very readable. Maybe not orange enough for some but strong contrast on regular paper.
Thanks for answering my question! 😊 👍
Holy Moly!! Drew's pen collection is awesome 😲!! The Vanishing Point singing had me in stitches 🤣Lovely episode as always, Brian & Drew!!
Hi guys, great video again! Drew, that little Cross pen is the first fountain pen, that i received as my graduation present in the 60’s and it still works fine! A few cross and diplomat FP have been added through the years but today, many other fp are in use, but i still look at them fondly.
Such a touching and hilarious segment about naming each other's autobiographies. It's incredible to see coworkers also able to be friends to such a degree! Warms my heart!
Also, cereal restaurants are a thing! Or at least they used to be... I think I remember one such eatery existing somewhere like Chicago or New York, but this was some years ago. I would so go to one, too!
There was a hipster cereal restaurant opened in London. Of course, being British, we took the piss. 😂
Orange inks to try: Colorverse V2 Rocket is a true orange IMO. I also enjoy oranges that are slightly burnt orange, like Kaweco Sunrise Orange and Robert Oster Orange Rumble which also has some nice shading. This was fun to see Drew's pen collection!
I would love to see a more detailed sighting of Drews pen collection! Some of them look quite interesting.
Thank you for sharing your pen collection! So fun to see, especially the big mouth bass Pilot VP 😂 The Elvis pen is pretty rad too. Lots of variety in your collection too!
I really enjoyed Drew's pen tour!
Yes!!! I am all here for Brian's fantasy book!! I would love to read that, and it would totally become a best seller.
And now 'Prince Ali' is stuck in my head :D Thanks Drew ;)
I will admit to being sad when Goulet stopped carrying Waterman Inks. I ordered them every chance I got, but alas, my personal enthusiasm wasn't enough of a demand. Same with Sheaffer Inks. I agree with Brian that modern Sheaffer pens can't hold a candle to the vintage pens of my youth.
Thanks for clearing that up about the Waterman products and other iconic, heritage FP brands. I was really wondering about that. Makes sense.
I keep the labels on my Custom 823’s as I own several all in the Amber colour-way. The labels allow me to ID each without the need to uncap. Overtime they lift off on their own… no damage whatsoever.
Impressive!! Drew knows the names, models, and history of ALL his pens, where I know about six of the 99 I have. But that's why I have a spread sheet. Where did I put that thing, anyway? I'll have to check the spread sheet finder list....
“Yes, notice me. Think my shirt is cool…but don’t talk to me about it” Yes! I’m the same way! Thanks, Drew! I feel so seen…but you know…see me, just don’t talk to me about it. 😂🤣😂🤣
Just got my F watermelon Mojito Benu! Bought it for myself for my birthday on the 28th and paired it with bumbling blossom. They pair so great together. Love them both!
For years the only ink I bought was Waterman Blue Black. It was $5 a bottle and one bottle lasted a year. It had a smell that reminded me of the paste we used in elementary school. One of my pens still smells of it. They changed the formula and now the ink has no scent. I have new favorite blue blacks and I never use Waterman ink any more. Sometimes I open the old bottle and take a whiff... for old time's sake.
Suggestions for Brandon’s orange ink quest: might be worth the time to track down Platinum’s mixable ink or Sailor Storia Mix ink to experiment with finding your dream orange. Taccia orange is pretty vibrant and so is KWZ Standard Orange. Hope that helps! There’s a Japanese magazine called Hobby Stationery Box that releases an ink catalog with over 2500 colors and it has color charts for the mixable ink brands.
My first fountain pen was a Waterman Phileas. I loved that pen! Unfortunately someone destroyed my nib. My fault for leaving it out where someone with absolutely no sense in their head could get to it I guess. I ended up tossing it because I was super new to fountain pens and didn't know that the nib could be replaced.
😪
Phileas was my intro to FP, too (about 30 yrs ago). Was sorry to hear about the fate with which yours had met.
The Waterman Phileas was my first foundation pen as well.
My first pen was the Waterman Phileas as well. It was given to me by the physician I worked for
about 1989. It is still in my collection, and currently inked with Diamine Marine ink. I now own
4 Waterman Phileas pens (Green/Purple/Blue/Red) and 2 Waterman Kultur pens (Turquoise/Soft Pink).
The hobby started with the green marble Waterman Phileas, and now 420+ pens later. It's a sad story (LOL).
I have dozen Phileas fp and ballpoint, the nibs hold up well.
I have Iroshizuku Yu-Yake, though don’t have many orange inks to compare it to. It looks fairly vibrant to me!
Artist and Dyer here. When you deepen orange it is brown. Orange is red and yellow mixed together. You can have a wide variety of orange when but that hue has a wide range of names, like coral, peach, copper, All orange. Orange and yellow are very light in value (how light or dark something is). Lastly with dyes depending on the other chemicals and type of dye it can bond with the fiber on a molecular level. They are always transparent. Pigments stay on the surface and need binder to hold it on the surface.
“ I think you’re going down a rabbit hole about going down a rabbit hole“ 🤣🤣 I was thinking the same thing Drew
My two orange inks are Robert Oster Fire on Fire (a pen addict exclusive) and KWZ Grapefruit
Paging the Italian viewers to the Red Courtesy Phones.
Lasagna in Italy does not have ricotta. It also has a bechamel sauce and is very, VERY delicious.
Ha ha - I like how your just blowing through all of these, really special pens -- exactly what I was thinking. And that Mont Blanc 90 - WOW.
It is called work ethic. I am so impressed by Ellie!!! I think she will do an amazing job of taking over when Brian finally traps himself in one of his sheds surrounded by all of his tools! I am sure she will do a great job of feeding Drew and putting him in front of a camera with pens he can play with! 😂
Superb chaps! 🖊️
My first special fountain pen was/is a Waterman, I have had it for many, many years and it still writes like a dream. It had been packed away (for years) and when I got it out, (when I rediscovered my love of fountain pens recently), and I took it out of its box, it was still inked up from years ago and I was amazed as it wrote straight away - impressive! I love all the new fun pens in different colours, etc but my Waterman is still the most comfortable and lovely one to write with 🔆🔆🔆
Great pen collection Drew.. would love to hear stories of pen acquisition esp the rare ones.. saw a few.. conid, custom urushi pilot pen, and others
Drew, the Weyland-Yutani patch on your jacket is fantastic!
The SchonDSGN Pocket 6 is beautiful, and his range of finishes is amazing. I collect #6 pocket pens, and have a handful.
Drew, thanks for sharing your pen collection. It would be fun if you and Brian took turns talking about a pen and its history. I think it would be a fun segment. You could even pair the pens you talk about with a big release. Ex. When Goulet releases a new Retro- talk about a Retro you have that has a cool history. Does that make sense?
I love currently inked videos and would love to see monthly videos of the pens and inks you are both using. Speaking of inks and pens, I love when you make video recommendations on inks to use with pens.
An interesting thing to consider when looking at ink color is if the color is from a single dye chemical or multiple ones mixed together. I’ve seen some rather unique results when dying fabric and yarn when a dye color was a mix and the different colors strike (attach) the material at different speeds. Could be fun to do some paper chromatography on various inks to see the colors separated. I remember doing such chromatography on black inks with students to show how different brands had different formulas.
A fellow former comic book store employee here! I worked at the midtown branch of FORBIDDEN PLANET in Manhattan, NYC for five years in the 1980’s and 90’s , running the comic book department (the store also had every sci-fi and fantasy novel in print in those days; as well as tee’s, posters, Dungeons and Dragons, action figures and model kits, Japanese imports, etc), then becoming store manager. That location closed during the early ‘90’s recession and the comic book business implosion of the era (from which the industry never really recovered, certainly not in terms of comic book sales), though the Greenwich Village store kept going.
However unlike your experience Drew, when I went into the downtown Forbidden Planet about ten years ago, no one there had any memory of any employee from the 1980’s, nor even of the owner, as the store changed hands and didn’t seem to have a link with the original UK Forbidden Planet anymore (plus the store is in their third location now, even though it’s still on the same block with each storefront move).
Pretty depressing, because that downtown staff were THE NYC comics store staff of that decade and period (and the store manager and other employees, along with the initial store manager of the midtown location had formed the ska-punk band THE TOASTERS, a long running and very popular NYC live act). Then this year I learned that that former owner Mike Luckman, who was a co-founder of the chain in Great Britain, and who had come to the States to open what was planned to become a large American FP chain (which never happened), and moved me into those job positions, had died! A very important chapter of my life seemed to really close with those revelations.
The great think about Facebook is that over time I reconnected with numerous friends from those store days!
That's a really cool story! Thanks for sharing. - Drew
Diamine Flame is my favourite orange. It's just gorgeous.
I have never been so early. But Im meeting my brother at noon for his birthday. Last year I got him a DnD pencil from you guys, and he loved it(couldn't convert him completely). Im too broke this year. I'm happy to see y'all so early. I might comment again after.
Am I gonna die? I was watching the Pencast, engrossed in Drew's pen collection while adding all the new sample inks I just received from the sale... Using my dip pen, washing it out in a cup of water... and too a big swig of ink-water. Ugh. Wrong cup! Almost spit it out over the desk, but that would have been a disaster for my sample book. But I couldn't swallow.... Had to run for the bathroom to spit. How about it? Am I gonna die? Keep rockin'. I look forward to my relaxing Pencast every week.
For the orange inks, I also love that color. The most vibrant I've found is Sailor Kim-mokusei. It's vibrant but readable. Happy it was mentioned here.
The Waterman Carene was my grail pen that I bought for my 40th birthday. I love the look of that nib. I also love their ink. they are stable and thrustworthy. That being said, it's true that they are not bringing anything new and only sell their existing product
I chose Caran d'Ache for my orange ink... all things being equal, just go for whichever has the niftiest bottle.
Speaking of brands we want you to carry, can we talk about Leonardo? 🙏 Love you guys. Pencast makes my weekend!
My first fountain pen was Waterman, and I loved it and took it everywhere with me ... but then I either lost it or it was stolen. I later replaced it with a Waterman Hemisphere which I still have, but it doesn't flow particularly well ... likely because I didn't learn how to truly care for a fountain pen until I ran across you guys and bought my first pen from you all: the Pilot Metropolitan with the 1.1 stub ... which is still one of my favorite pens. And I've obtained all of my new pens through Goulet (and one vintage Pilot from a used pen vendor which I also love!). My current favorite is my brass Lilliput, and I have the rose gold Kaweco Sport arriving tomorrow. Yay!! Kaweco is my current favorite pen company. :)
KWZ grapefruit is a bold orange and Robert oster burned orange is amazing too!
I'm just at the orange ink part and I have to watch the rest later, but I wanted to say that the new Diamine Flame from the Inkvent 22 is a nice orange. Also, on your homepage picture right now is TWSBI Tangerine (but maybe you didn't mention it because it's out of stock?).
Regarding an orange ink - one option is Vinta Damili. It is actually an orange that leans towards a red, terracotta color. :)
Drew…. That green Custom 912 is causing a cloud of green envy in this house. Beautiful acquisition!
That Conklin Crescent-filler looks like it could double as a weapon. I can’t imagine carrying it around in a pocket or purse. 😅
Did I see the Sleepy Hollow Retro 51 at the beginning? Orange and black? I missed out on that one. Such a fun release!
I always felt that "The Never Ending Story" was the best movie ever written. "The Princess Bride" was a close second to it.
I hear you about the Wateman's (and those other "heritage" brands) but I have to say....I absolutely love my Carene medium nib, and two of the jewels of my collection of antique pens are my 1903 Waterman whatever ta*&^5 and my Waterman 52.

Hi Drew 👋 Emmie here,
I have my own ear-worm cleanser that's been in use for over a decade: just a spoon full of sugar (helps the mecidine go down) from marry poppins. I don't actually recall much of the lyrics, but humming the melody works. I also sometimes use songs from the sound of music, so I'm a big fan of Julie Andrews. 😂
I have a vintage Pilot Myu that I got from Japan, and it still had the sticker on it, including the price in Yen, which charms me, and I left it on. Otherwise off they go.
I'm always hunting for more orange inks - along with teal, it's my favorite ink color. I've used virtually every one mentioned in the podcast. And while Diamine Pumpkin is pretty vibrant, it pales next to Kobe #11 Ikuta Orange - it's the only orange ink that looks brilliant even in an XF Preppy. Diamine Fire Embers is also great, but leans more toward red.
Diamine inkvent fire embers is by far my fav orange. The shading is to die for.
Cult pens deep dark orange is a very brown orange if they area looking for that end.
A video on orange being brown blue my mind.
I want to read those books!
Diamine Ancient Copper with a touch of Noodlers Roses in the Louver is a freakn nice flowy brown with great shading.
What proportion of each ink would you use?
@@kiraniumbra 10 parts Ancient Copper, 1 part Roses. I wanted more bronze pop to the brown and got it with that striking magenta. I love darkening Roses too, adding a touch of any black on hand.
Orange is a fickle one indeed - I stranded on Iroshizuku Yu-Yake and Fuyu-Gaki, the latter being more of a reddish hue, hinting on bordeau wine (or a reddish, of course), the former being the more vibrant one, hinting on a candlelit pumpkin. Both being sufficiently intense and dark to remain legible, the more fiery one sometimes bordering on that 'neon/marker' feeling. Choose your paper and nib-gushiness wisely...
TWSBI Orange might be just the ticket for Brandon. I am an orange lover, too, and that’s one of my favorites.
I too have recently been searching for the perfect orange ink. I haven't found it yet. The ones I've tried so far have been too light, too red, too pink, or too brown. My favorites so far are Diamine Blaze Orange and Laban Apollo Orange. I have some more samples coming and hopefully I'll find an orange I love.
UPDATE: I've now tried Noodler's Southwest Sunset, Operation Overlord Orange, and Habanero. Nice inks. Not my perfect orange.
I've also tried Kaweco Sunrise Orange, Van Dieman's Apricot, and Robert Oster Orange.
The winner: Robert Oster Orange. To my eyes it is a perfect bright, vibrant orange.
I'm sure I'll try more, but I think I'll be getting a bottle of the Robert Oster.
PS Does anyone else call Robert Oster Bobby Oyster or am I just a goober?
The Waterman Serenite is really nice, but it hasn't been made in many years. The ones on the used market are going considerably more than their original prices. Design based (sort of) on a Samurai sword. The Carene is a really nice pen, too.
Brians autobiography should definately be called 'The Goulet Blues'
Sometimes we talk about what we're doing while watching. This morning I am Churning Butter! You read that right! Yes. I am churning butter with my little Kilner butter churn. Ha ha
Who's here after going bonkers on the ink sample sale this week? I bought 15 and I'm close to filling up my Goulet ink sample holder.
