Simon Baxter Meg is absolutely lovely. She’s a star ⭐️. So are you for making these awesome videos that inspire to get out in nature - with or without a dog. 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Embrace the Chaos" is an important mantra that we use here on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State (USA). Forest chaos here rules the day. We do not see chaos as imperfection; "perfection" is a human construct that does not fit the natural forest. Indeed, "chaos" is an important ecological characteristic of forest that should be embraced and not disparaged. Continue to embrace it and you will see many benefits. Very enjoyable to see a photographer who is not put off by what is a natural forest feature!
That's very kind of you, thank you! Unfortunately, I get the impression that divisive and 'clickbait' videos are rewarded. So long as my viewers keep on enjoying and I get enough support to continue :-)

Very good video .You are absolutely right when you say we should focus on areas of more complexity and chaos .I live in a country :Liguria (Italy) where chaos is at maximum level and find a way to organize our chaos is a great challenge ( often I am jealous of what You call chaos!!!). Thank you again (PS: Meg is fantastic!)
Beautiful summer morning in Maine, a hot cup of coffee and a Simon Baxter video, great way to start a day. I like the way you explain your vision of creating a composition, what could improve it or detracts from it, helps me to slow down and think in my own shooting. Can not emphasis enough how much I enjoyed watching Meg rolling in the moss included in the video. One of the simple joys in life is seeing children and animals playing and just having fun!
Hi Simon- This is such an excellent photo-training piece! In dense woodlands such as we have in North Carolina, USA it is so difficult to see through it all but you have provided guidance I can put to use immediately... thank you for all you do!
The videos just get better year-after-year. And there is no such thing as tooo much Meg. Love it. Also gives me a bit of guilt as I lounge here watching videos, while my pupper is awaiting adventure.
Thanks Simon. I live in a heavily forested area (Adam Gibbs territory). I wander for hours in the local forests trying to find compositions. It's so hard! This video really captures the essence of the joy of exploration. It's fantastic if you come away with an exceptional capture, but equally fantastic to just to be there in the first place. Your love of woodland is inspiring. Thanks Simon.
Super enjoyable as always! I'm amazed that you were able to maintain your composure early in the video with all the midges! Loved the scene with Meg being Meg. That was also really cool to revisit that scene with those two awesome trees. There is something very special about returning to locations like that and to check in on them to see how they have changed. I look forward to the next installment.
Simon, I don’t know how you do it. As you know, woodland photography as a sub-genre of landscape photography is one of the most difficult genres of all photography genres to consistently get good results and somehow you manage to do it nearly every time you go out. There are many great landscape photographers and many of them get a nice woodland shot from time to time but you are so consistent in what you do. Keep it up man!
That was great. It reminded me of the Ty Canol ancient woodland in Pembrokeshire, a place that makes woodland photography, if not exactly easy, incredibly rewarding.
I loved hiking up in the National Forest on & off the trails to capture that unique shot. Thank you for the upload.. Your dog is quite a character ""LOL""!
Finding order from chaos in the woodlands is always a challenge. Browns, greens and small bitey things in the air. You're an inspiration as to how to do that just right. Also, Meg is too cute (and very well-behaved while you're photographing, it would appear).
Lovely episode, I think woodlands are insanely hard when looking for perfect and having a scene just so and having it spelled out that chaos has beauty of it's own. And Meg, she is such a ham, she was having so much fun.
Nice vlog. So much like the woodland in my area .. I love walking of the beaten track and finding that places that are just macial... Total peace... Thanks for sharing
I wish the local woodlands here in South East Kansas looked like the location in the video. Here, we have many obstacles to overcome like Briar bushes, (thorns), Locust trees, (more thorns but 4 inches long), snakes, coyotes, (they don't usually bother me), bobcats, (their scream we leave one terrified), horrendous undergrowth that is a challenge to walk through. A view in the woods here is a wall of plant growth with the only trail or path are those made by the local wildlife. Rabbits, fox, coyotes, deer, raccoons and rats make very small trails some only a few inches wide meandering through the underbrush. To make photographs in this type of growth means to think small. Get down low to find the tiny bits of interesting things and do close-ups of them. There are very little chances of getting anything at a distance as it turns into complete chaos.
Thanks for the video. Really appreciate your thoughts about exploring scenes from different angles. I always need to remind myself to look behind me. Love the Meg antics.
I am new to your videos but as a keen woodland photographer found this extremely interesting. I believe through your video i have realised i am to quick to press the shutter. You took so much time to compose your subject with great results. A lesson learned.
Awesome video again, all the prase and indeed very much agree with the positive comments mentioned beneath. And, the dog Megan, what a awesome creature! Cheers!
OOOOPS. How about that. I feel bloody stupid right now but I’m pleased that my head is focused on a photo possibility. Jeeeezz. You took the shot. I feel better.
I am totally smitten. I've watched two of your videos today, and got some useful tips on composition, but I've completely fallen in love with that bonkers dog of yours!
I was eating breakfast and had a thought about the midges. Every video from across the pond is infested with them. We have gnats and greenheads down near our marshes and the best thing to use is Skin so Soft. I suggest giving it a try. If it doesn't work at least you will be the best smelling photographer in the woods.
Great video Meg, oops I meant Simon LOL!!. I love how you bring order to chaos, something I am still trying to tackle and not very well I might add. Awesome images, and as usual Meg steals the limelight!! Thanks for sharing!!

Hello Holger! Glad to know you're going back for another workshop with Simon. I have fond memories -- and a few wonderful images -- from our October workshop of last year. I was very impressed with the images you captured. I'd love to see your new workshop images. If you can, please send me a link to view them. Wishing you good shooting. Simon, thanks for the wonderful video. As others have said, it's so educational to hear your commentary and to learn your thought process. Give Meg a pat for me.
Another fantastic episode Simon - well done. I loved the opening drone sequence - incredibly difficult to fly so smoothly and so close to the various tree trunks / branches. Thank you for sharing your understanding of how to create images amongst the chaos. Your explanations of 'flow' are really insightful. I really enjoyed meeting you yesterday - thanks for so much knowledge and experience that you shared.
It's great to see another video from you Simon. It's true that forest is chaotic compared to what we usually see in your videos but my woodland is worst. I tend to concentrate on the smaller things instead here (like mushrooms).
Always great to hear more of your thoughts on composing woodland photographs. I need to get back to the UK, we just don't have woodlands like that in Ohio...

Gum trees dominate the Australian woodland, unfortunately they look great and moody when dry and dead with no foliage but when alive, they create visual chaos and mess with the foliage. Places with tall eucalypts look nice and impressive but very hard to get through, it's nothing like UK forests like the one in this video. You need a machete to get deeper than 50-100 metres into the bush...
