My First & Second Cooks On The New Kamado Grill From Aldi
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 авг 2024
- This is my first video using my new Kamado Grill from Aldi. To see how this BBQ performs I do two cooks, oysters and steaks.
In this video we look at how fire management works with the new Kamado Grill, what capacity it gives us, how we cook (directly vs indirectly) and ask the question of "was it worth the money"?

Another good effort mate👍👍
Thanks, much appreciated!
Greetings Johnny mate class vid mate! Been interested in this sort thing for a long time since I use to work in chippy when I was 15 and me love for grub took off from there. Just stumbbled on ur channel and u inspired me to jump on the bbq bandwagon too. Never done this sort thing before but I recently inherited a load of bbq stuff from me uncle so thort I’d give it a bash me self. Gonna go back and start from ur first video and work me way through them. Nice one Johnny mate, cheers 👍🏼
Nice one, glad to have you aboard!
The food LOOKED fine & you said it tasted good, so it's looking optimistic at this stage. What I will do when I fire mine up, is to keep a notebook (as someone else suggested) of cooks undertaken, so it will be possible to tinker/improve in the future - like quantity of charcoal used ,(I think it suggests 0.4 to 0.5kg), vent positions, timing etc. Looking forward to it but quite a few things going on at present so WHEN I will get around to it is another thing.
Good video, though.
Yes, the vents are very much untested and want to play about with the amount of fuel. When you do finally get it fired up definitely keep a journal. You'll see me talking about this in my most recent video. Everyday's a learning day!!
I love mine, this month I cooked short ribs, pulled pork (about 2-2.5kg) and 2 rack of ribs, coiled onto each other, and I was really happy with the results. Still need to get a proper heat deflector but for now I’ve been using a pice of roof tile 😅😅
Hi Ruben, love it!!! Always great to hear how people are making their own add-ons for their BBQ's. Thanks for watching 👍
hello new friend here i kamado is a bad grill love it see you around
Hey, thanks for saying hello. Loved the Jack Salmon video. Keep them coming!!
👌🏻
Thanks
Thanks for the vid, where did you get the diffuser plate from please?
Hi, thanks for watching. I got it from eBay. If you follow this link you will find it: ebay.us/XfHKn5
I love this BBQ (it's my first kamado) but the temp gauge on mine is way off which caused me to burn some ribs on a smoke. I thought the diffuser plate wasn't doing its job but I think thr bbq would have been at around 190c not 105! Could you do a rib video on this grill?
Morning Stu, thanks for watching, it's greatly appreciated. Yes, let's give that a go. I'm working on a schedule for upcoming vids now so will include it in that. I really want to test this on a low and slow so will bring it up the schedule. Keep an eye on the channel. Appreciate the support. 👍
@@badweatherbbq921 thank you! I'll keep my 👀 peeled 🙌
I’ve done a few successful pulled pork cooks with my mini Aldi kamado, so I have no doubt that you’ll nail it when you get round to giving it a go.
Brilliant, thanks for letting me know. I will give one a shot as I've still got a bit of learning to do on that one 🤣. Thanks for watching.
How did you cure the BBQ? e.g. how much charcoal for how long at what heat? Vents open or closed?
Hi Aidan, I'm honestly not sure. I do remember just through a few handfuls of briquettes in early door and letting it run hot for a the amount of time they lasted. Vents will have been open for that. Thanks for watching. 👍
Did you purchase the defuser place from Aldi or elsewhere?
Hi Stephen, I bought it from Ebay. Just search under heat deflector for aldi mini kamado. Theres actually a few different seller selling now but the one I bought is still there at £45.99. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Gd afternoon Johnny and sorry for my English language ! I have been the proud owner of a mini Kamado since two days and while searching on YT, I discovered your page !!! After having searched your videos, I would like to know where you found your accessories for this Kamado, in particular the diffuser with its support ? Thanks very much !!! Pierre
Hi Pierre. Apologies for the late reply. I bought this one on Ebay. I’ve had a quick look and if you search “mini kamado heat deflector” you will see a load of options (one of them is the one I bought). I hope this helps, please let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching. 👍👍👍
@@badweatherbbq921 Hello Johnny ! Thank you for the answer ! mine comes from Carrefour, 99 € ! I did a first heating, to "clean" it and I cooked sausages for the first time... I'm currently on vacation in Brittany, by the sea, but as soon as we get back, I'm going to test it.. I managed to mount it to more than 350° C and I will be looking for some accessories for Smoking, and making Pizzas... See you soon.
Great video. Can you smoke fish on this?
Hi Tom, thanks for watching. Do you mean hot smoking or cold smoking?
Its strange how you had such little amount of charcoal, I filled mine up last week and opened all the vents and still couldn’t get it up to 300c. I got it up to 260c by blowing into the bottom air hole. Maybe my temp gauge is way off.
I’ve tried Pizza on numerous occasions with the deflector plate then about 35mm gap then the pizza stone, I’ve managed to burn the base without cooking the top witching 4mins. 🤣🤣
It's weird Scott, the temp gauge is definitely not on the money as I found out in my cook. Would definitely recommend a digital ambient probe to help out if you need to have specific temps to try and get. 👍
@@badweatherbbq921 I’ll definitely get one, hopefully it will show my temps are way to high 😂 great videos, love the intros 👍🏻
I love a rub video
😀
Aldi full size egg, really good, did a slow roast set of 4 beef rib joint, really tasty and juicy. Disappointed with this video, back to Tom Kerridge who cooks with it, does not just talk about it.
Hi K M, thanks for stopping by and supporting the channel. Alas, this isn't a video about the full size egg, it's about the mini, you certainly wouldn't be able to get a 4 rib joint on one of these 🤣. I'm sorry the video didn't meet your expectations and I'd actively encourage you heading to Tom's video's, he a fantastic chef. Appreciate you also supporting the smaller content makers such as myself. Kind regards Jonny.
I don't want to see your rub video 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
