    Earlier this week, I had to attend a boring meeting which ended on what the speaker did at his fishing vacation. So I sat at the back of the room and starting this granny ripple blanket. This is so easy. Thank you.

    This tutorial is AMAZING!! 😍😍
    Why does it have 194 thumbs down is beyond me! Just can't understand.
    I mean , if people don't like the style of the blanket or colors or whatever... That's fine, but the video, de explanation, execution, the camera, everything is perfect!
    Seriously! What is wrong with some people!?? 🙄
    Anyway... Thank You for another great tutorial. I'm definitely making this.
    Xoxo

      LOL, Kanny - thank you for the note, and the kind words on the video. I didn't notice it had so many thumb-downs...I suppose because it has over 700K views, not everyone who watches is going to like the video. (People give thumb-downs for all kinds of reasons, even on a free pattern and free video tutorial. Maybe they're upset because I didn't give them free yarn, too? haha)

    • @wildwildwests
      @wildwildwests 8 лет назад +3

      Because people are rude! lol.. Sad but true. I agree with you completely & like how you pointed that out. I am so THANKFUL that others take time to do these tutorials so i can watch it being done & get a lesson for FREE. I mean.. WHO can complain at that? Like you say..If they don't like it...fine..move on but to give a thumbs down is just childish. Who knows..maybe someone with a competing video who wants all the traffic....?

      VeryPink Knits I love the pattern,love the name of the pattern, I can't wait to make it I,would rather knit than do almost anything, but I HAVE TO MAKE THIS,,,WAS WONDERING THO, WHY THE CHAIN 1 before the single crochets????

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  8 лет назад +2

      mary obrien - I think what you're asking about is "chaining up" - it is how you start a row in crochet so that the edges match the rest of the work.

    Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial. I stayed up until 3 am last night - probably watched 10+ videos and just ended up so confused... I almost gave up until I came across your tutorial here. Then it clicked and I thought "I can do this!" LOL. You explained it so clearly and I understood everything (which is unusual since I'm a beginner). Of course I'll have to see how it goes once it gets started, but I'm confident that I can follow your instructions. I really appreciate the effort it took to make the video - very professional (and no, you do not talk too much, I really needed every word!). Very kind of you to take the time to help others. And thank you for the free pattern. I'm so excited to get started!

    This tutorial is very professional, and I appreciate that the basic stitch techniques are skipped over. I'm beyond a beginner, and get really annoyed having to fast forward through the stitch technique on many videos. There's a great technique for the border and also tying the ends in. Great video, thank you!

    Your videos are incredibly professional and easy to follow. I pause very often, but what's cool is that it's very easy to find a good spot in order to catch up. I'm a beginner knitting and crocheting and I'm currently working on a granny square blanket and it's turning out really well thanks to you. So, thank you for taking the time to share your skill and knowledge. I really appreciate your work and advice.

    Just finished the Granny Ripple Afghan today. I made it to fit my queen sized bed. Took me about 1 month of crocheting while watching tv in the evenings. I used Fall colors from Red Heart - Warm Brown, Aran, Medium Thyme and Carrot. Looks really pretty. Thanks for the great tutorials.

    I am SO glad I found this! I have made lap blankets for a long time (I'm really old! LOL) and always had the problem that the bottom row would curl at the peaks- no matter how loosely I did the stitches. Your single crochet back across it makes it perfect- you are a genius! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and talents on here for us!

    Staci ...
    My Gramma taught me to crochet, and in return; every time I visited I would make up samples of various patterns for her. If she could hold it, and poke at it, she could crochet it, but she never learned to read "patternspeak".
    One thing that Gramma always insisted on, is that there is a Right Way To Hold The Yarn. The way she taught me helps with tension [both in your work and in your shoulders!].
    Hold your left hand in front of you, with your palm towards your face.
    With yarn in your right hand, wind the yarn CLOCKWISE around your left little finger [at about the first knuckle, near the tip]
    Now, lead the yarn in front of your middle two fingers...
    Between your 2nd finger and your left Forefinger...
    Behind your Forefinger [counter-clockwise, here]...
    And come back to the front, with the yarn held taut by the arch of your Forefinger.
    You'll be holding your work mostly by gripping it AT THE WORK POINT, in your left hand, between your thumb and 2nd finger [I'm holding mine that way as I type]
    The advantage of holding your yarn this way is that it requires only a slight twitch of your Forefinger to adjust tension, and to feed in more yarn, just twitch your little finger
    I hope this works for you....

    The min I posted asking for help i knew that was a silly question. As if you could help when i hadnt included a pic, anyway as im not 1 to give up i kept trying & yes!!!! Finally its laying flat. Simple problem of having foundation row way too tight which of course then didnt allow for any give, so for any other folliwers if this happens to you simply crotchet first row looser. Cheers

    I have watched quite a few of your videos and really like how you explain everything. I have only one problem . . . to me you are doing the ripple pattern upside down. Any pattern that I have seen or done you start going up to a point then going down to the valley. Not used to it being the way you are doing it and trying to figure out how to do it the way I am used to. Kind of crazy I know just stuck in the old way of doing things. I still love your work.

I have no idea how to read patterns just yet, especially when they are the picture patterns, not just the words. But I have a question for this blanket, how do you just keep using the same color? ***** - I don't remember the exact color names of the bulky yarn I used for demonstration in the video. I know the yarn is Malabrigo Chunky, and the gray color is called Polar Morn. You should be able to pick out the other two colors from online photos from retailers.

    I love this idea and your video was easy to understand as was the pattern. I know you can't see my work, but it is as if each row I finish the blanket is getting wider. My rows are not lining up at the ends. I think with the last 2 sets of 3 that go in the chain 5 at the ends of the previous row is making it get wider and wider. I don't know how to correct it, and am afraid I will have a pyramid when I am done.

      Nichol Copeland - be sure to follow the pattern carefully, and not work any extra stitches. Unless your stitches are getting looser as you go, working extra stitches is the only way you can make your blanket wider. The chain 5 at the end of the row is what gets you ready to work the next row - it shouldn't add any width.

      At first, I thought that my blanket was widening as well... And I thought it was just because of the same reason you described... The ending of the row. I realized, however, that this isn't the case. My blanket is perfectly straight on the sides and isn't actually widening. It simply looks this way in the beginning because the lower rows of my blanket have come closer together and the row I am working on is still kind of stretched out. Once I am finished, I know mine will be just right and this might be the case others are having as well... Especially since the bottom row goes like this \/\/\/\/\/\/\/ and is pointed outwards on either side... I think it is just giving the illusion of widening... I loved this tutorial and I appreciate that you took the time to put it on here.
