  • Join me on an adventure as we explore the otherworldly Fes Medina without a guide. In this video, we navigate the maze of streets armed with only a tiny map from a guide book, facing the challenges of no phone signal and elusive Petit Taxis. Despite the struggles, we discover that sometimes getting lost can lead to the best and most unexpected experiences.
As we wander through the bustling Medina, we stumble upon hidden gems that we never could have planned for. One such discovery takes us to a raw and ready butcher shop, where we witness the traditional butchering process firsthand-a stark contrast to what we're accustomed to in the UK. It's a fascinating glimpse into a different culture and an eye-opening experience.
A highlight of our exploration is stumbling upon a vibrant mosque buzzing with excitement and music. The atmosphere is electrifying, as the rhythmic beats and melodic tunes fill the tiny passageways of the Fes souqs. We find ourselves swept up in the infectious energy.
While our attempts to hail a Petit Taxi at the end of the day prove challenging, we realise that the rewards of our guideless adventure far outweigh the inconveniences. The freedom to discover Fes on our own terms allows us to uncover hidden facets of the city and experience authentic interactions with the local community.
Join us as we embrace the unexpected, learn from our struggles, and celebrate the serendipitous moments that make exploring the Fes Medina without a guide an unforgettable journey. Through this video, we hope to inspire you to take the road less traveled, to trust your instincts, and to embrace the magic that comes with stepping into the unknown. So, come along and witness the beauty that unfolds when we dare to go it alone!

I love the title of this video - getting lost and losing your bearings in these type of places is a wonderful thing, it's completely spontaneous and you don't know if the next turn will reveal a hidden treasure or a brick wall! I think putting a warning up about the chickens was a good call but it's important to show these things - it's part of the true nature of travelling. The market reminds of some I've visited when in Turkey, you really do feel like a local and not a tourist visiting some of these places. I tend to avoid taxis wherever possible, I thought for sure that 3 person rule was going to be made up so surprised to find out it was genuine - fair dues to the taxi driver.

Transportation is always an adventure in a foreign country. You made the best out of a chaotic situation. Walking might have been quicker lol but I'm glad it worked out in the end.

100% agreed. Our next trip destination appears to have a very strange public transportation set up, so it will be interesting to see how we cope with it. No official bus stops, or timetables - just got to go on what the locals say!
