Man it seemed like you misunderstood something about Theon: He didn't decide to spare Bran and Rickon, and hide them in Winterfell. He just couldn't find them, so he murdered and burned two innocent boys instead. Meanwhile, Osha snuck into Winterfell with the boys, and hid them there, without Theon knowing.
I’m indeed a Theon apologist, so I live for the Theon stanning, but this is true. Theon was being a piece of shit.
Dracarys isn't actually the name of her dragons, it's actually the ancient Valyrian command to breath fire. Her 3 dragons are named Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal.
Also, the reason for Jamie looking nervous when fighting Ned isn't because Ned was actually a better fighter, and it'll be explained why in the later seasons.
And the reason why Cersei supported Margaery marrying Joffrey wasn't because she felt sympathy for Sansa, it was because she needed the support of the Tyrells and she wanted a better wife for Joffrey, since she always hated Sansa.

probably Robb capturing jaime lannister so quickly. probably because it was the last thing I expected
@08:21: Qhorin was not trying to kill Jon at all… he was putting on a show for the wildlings. It was all an act. In the previous ep, he had explained this plan to Jon. His goal was basically to sacrifice himself by having Jon kill him. In his view, it was the best way to ensure that Jon would gain the wildlings’ trust. He would then be able to infiltrate them and spy on them for the Watch. It worked. Qhorin is supposed to be quite a formidable fighter.
I would add to the contest about the greatest swordman two more. Barristan Selmy (The commander of Robert's kingsguard). He even being old could take a chance and probably win against Jaimie or anyone else. Another one is Qhorin the Halfhand who was feard around all the wildlings. In the books it is said that he lost half his first hand in the fight and then he trained his other one to the level he was even better with her. He would easily kill Jon if he wanted to. Such a legend for his sacrifise 👑
The way I see it is this: whomsoever clicks on a tier list expecting validation of their own opinions does so at their own risk.

Ranking the characters from their attributes, actions and achievements like you are is interesting to see! People argue because they have different critera. Most people rank, effectively, on screen time. Which is kinda lame. ps I thought for sure Theon would be higher for you since you enjoyed his story/actions so far. Great list! Feels wierd to see the «evil/bad» characters so low when they’re so entertaining to watch and straight up make the story.
But by his criteria it does make sense.

Awesome Video Mi'Lord! Can't wait to see how this changes if you choose to do more! I loved hearing your reasoning for why everyone was where they were especially with me being a veteran of the series and know that a lot is going to change.
In my opinion you were a little hard on Dany (Daenerys). She's is a teenage girl (The character was 17 in episode 1) who has had a hard life, so personally I can excuse some of her naivete. Also in the future I would recommend ya looking at the dragons kind of like an army if you give points for using an army smartly then I would also give her points for using the dragons cleverly. But that's just my opinion. Thanks for the great video!
It will be interesting to see how this list changes over the series and more characters are added to the story. I re-watched GoT this year with my youngest daughter who was FAR to young to view it when the show was on TV. At the end I asked her to tell me her top 5 characters. Three of your S tier people were on her list, Tyrion, Arya and Pod.

@@berndv7 I mean and Qhorin and Barristan's feats are barely mentioned, Garlan Tyrell, Smalljon Umber and Crakehall(who Jaime claims to be really good) are cut, Loras is nerfed as hell. So all the people who have a chance against Jaime either don't make an appearance or are overlooked.
Let's not ignore the Barristan death either, DnD disrespected the hell outta that guy.

It'll be interesting to see how this all changes going forward. On a side note, the reason that Dany is so immature at times is because they're following the books and she's a child in those. Like 13 or 14. They aged her up but kept the plot the same.

If you're interested in what the charcters are supposed to be in comparison to each other in a fight, then it would go: Jaime at the very top because he is a childhood prodigy with a sword (The actor Nikolaj in the show isn't a great stunt fighter so they had him on equal level to Ned), then the hound because he is a highly seasoned, strong, durable fighter, then Brienne, Loras, Ned, Bronn and Jon. Jon is by no means a bad fighter, but he is still young and hot tempered here, and it helps him that he has a valyrian steel sword unlike most people.
PLEASE do this again after Season 3. Your opinions on some of these characters will definitely change. Excited to see more of your GoT reactions coming up! :)
Dear Barry, Thank you for your videos. I appreciate your wok, your effort, and your time. When a person watches a show, we can actually measure how much time is invested.... yet when reading a book it is more difficult and repeatedly seeing words in print can really impress themselves upon a person's mind. I salute you for taking on this series and making videos for people who have read the books. For example, Valar Morghulis has only been said once since you've been watching.... it's enjoyable to see you process this information in real time. Anyway, I'm not here to argue your rankings, just to make a few comments... spoiler free. (But I know you will put Robb and Ygritte at the top of the list.)
I know you had your feelings regarding the characters in your head. If you'd write out the ranking in adance, then you'd hit the right speed earlier in the video. You got going, but it took a while.
Dracarys is the Valyrian (the name of the culture, ethnicity, and penninsula from where Danaerys' family originally came) word for "fire" or "flame on." Her dragons are Drogon (black scales, named for her dead husband), Rhaegal (green scales, name for her eldest brother killed by Robert Baratheon), and Viserion (cream white scales, named for her recently deceased brother).
The show is based upon the book series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The show begins very close to the books, but it differs more and more as the show progresses. This has two big results. First for people who only see the show, you see character motivations and plot results from less information than is available in the books. For example, you don't know Davos' mind set because he did not lose his only son in the battle.... in fact he lost his four oldest sons in the battle. Also, Jon does not think about it... but his uncle Ben has to know who Jon's mother is. Think about that. The answer is just beyond his reach. Another example is the fighting prowess of Jamie Lannister. In his own mind, Jaime is the second best swordsman after old Barristan Selmy. In other people's minds, Jamie is a top ten fighter.... while Eddard survived one legendary combat fifteen years ago. This combat gets replayed in Eddard's dreams... his fever dreams... where he and six companions fought three Kingsguard (including Arthur Dayne who was even better than Selmy). Also, Jon may seem a great fighter for killing Qhorin Halfhand, but in the book Ghost rips out one of the Halfhand's achilles tendons so that Jon can win.
A second result is that certain characters and plots get dropped or changed. For example, Loras and Margaery have two older brothers. The eldest, Willas, is the heir to Highgarden... and Margaery and her grandmother try to engage him to Sansa instead ofengaging her to Loras.
You use the word smart often. Sometimes you mean wise and foolish instead. Smart and stupid deal with knowing what is right and wrong, while wisdom and foolishness deal with a person's ability to do the right thing.
Another crucial point, the books are written so that each chapter is from the perspective of only one character. This means that all information up to this point in the books comes through the eyes of Eddard, Catelyn, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Jon, Tyrion, Danaerys, Theon, and Davos... plus Gared (a ranger from the opening scene of Season One ) and Cressen (the maester from the beginning of Season Two). This means that all of the dialogue between Robb, Jaime, Cersei, Joffrey, Tywin, Littlefinger, Varys, Roz, Pycelle, Margaery, Loras, Renly, Stannis, Melisandre, Jorah, Viserys and more are never seen in the books. Some of that information comes to us only from the perspectives of Eddard, Catelyn, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Jon, Tyrion, Danaerys, Theon, and Davos. For example, Cersei's incest with Jaime in the first episode is told from a seven year old Bran's perspective... What does he really see? What does he really comprehend? We do know that he cannot (amnesia) or will not (dissaciative fuge) remember seeing the twins. If you look over the list of main characters who give us their point of view (Eddard, Catelyn, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Jon, Tyrion, Danaerys, Theon, and Davos): Five of the ten are Starks, one Snow, one Lannister, one Targaryen, one Greyjoy, and one Seaworth).... you'll notice that this list is heavy with Starks and Stark sympathizers and has only one non-Stark who was an adult during the rebellion, Davos, and he was barely involved. The point of view in the first two books is very positive for the Starks, while being negative towards the Lannisters and Targaryens. In the third book, we get Jaime's and Sam's points of view. In the fourth, we get three new perspectives from the Greyjoys and three from Dorne... and one Lannister. In the fifth book, we get one from an old man still hanging one.
One fantastic connection you've made regarding Eddard's fathering of Jon after marrying Catelyn while Robb broke off an engagement to a non-specific girl in order to marry Talisa. You are relating Eddard's youth, the capture of his sister, the deaths of his father and brother, his marriage, and his war in the Riverlands to Robb's youth, his marriage, the capture of his sisters, the deaths of his father and brothers, and his war in the Riverlands. There are eerily similar circumstances from generation to generation.... sometimes with the same results, sometimes with different results. The author does this to establish expectations and then to flip the tables on his readers. I am saying that comparing Eddard to Robb and Jon, Robert to Stannis and Renly, Catelyn to Sansa, the mad king Aerys to Viserys and Danaerys is not a bad thing at all.
You are seeing many of the problems facing people in politics, war, and leadership.... and yet like the rest of us, your affinity for certain characters clouds your vision.
Well, looks like I was incorrect about your placement of Robb and Ygritte.
You are at the point where the author has only subverted a few of the established fantasy tropes. If you were to quit now and imagined your own ending... "and they all lived happily ever after".... no one would blame you.

Renly would have won the war within a couple months, with the power of the Stormlands, the Reach, and probably Dorne. While having an alliance with Robb allowing him to claim his own Kingdom, he wouldn't have won all 7 kingdoms, but he would have ended the killing way early. Shame he was born after the Mannis

Jaime is the best by a longshot compared to those others - He is the youngest kingsguard ever, a prodigy swordsmen who by now has many years of experience from tournaments and battles. Theres a reason hes so infamous. Unfortunately due to budget they didnt show the battle at whispering woods in Season 1 Episode 9 but Theon notes that Jaime cut down atleast a dozen of Robs men before they could capture him, he also killed Jory, Neds best soldier with ease.

I don't know why but for me the best characters in this show are these who are here for a really short time. Like in my top 10 of all the characters in the whole show would be Renly and Qhorin the Halfhand. I really adore these two

Even in the book Jon needed Ghost to beat him fairly, and he was going way less hard on Jon in the show's version of the fight

You might think Ned is slightly better in the show than Jaime, but that's not the case in the books / real lore. Jaime is light years ahead of Ned in terms of sword fighting, he can beat Ned with only one hand. He's author's favorite fighter. Jaime wanted to fight Ned so bad because he bested the legendary kingsguard Arthur Dayne (Jaime's mentor) in the Robert's rebellion. Ned is a great army commander but not a 1v1 fighter.

Damn you put Bronn above The Hound in fighting skill, let alone best fighter on the list? If he gets the jump on him, maybe he wins. In any other context The Hound is just too ferocious and strong. He's got all of Bronn's honor (ha ha) and ferocity, but complimented by being huge and formally trained and wearing actual armor. And The Hound still loses to people like Jaime and some other people. Now, a scenario where I could see Bronn maybe winning in a very in-character way would be if he knew about his fear of fire and used that against him.
