Best strategy: Stay in 2nd place until halfway through final lap. Getting first place before the final stretch is completely pointless since you'll just get sniped out of it. Any time you get defensive items, hold on to them and use them to maintain 2nd place. A guaranteed 2nd is way better than a possible first but probable 5th.
There really can’t be a strategy in a complete rng game like this. You’re saying staying in second is the best but when the point of a race is to come in first, not second it defeats the purpose. When you think about it second is the first to lose. What happens if you’re playing with a “pro” like Tom. Toms skill at this game is amazing and rng has his back. Even if in second there isn’t a guarantee youd get any defensive items do to the games placement items(unless it’s not turned on but in chilled videos it is). Placement items will defer depending on your place in the race. You can’t guarantee anything in this game. Try playing online with random players and maintaining 2nd place for the entire time until the end of the race.

Out of 5 races, if you get first place once, but third place every other time, you get 55 points. But if you get 2nd place every time, you get 60 points. Koop you’re not thinking of the rng luck of it though. You’re saying it like it’s a guarantee to get second every single time. Not saying it isn’t possible but I am saying it’s highly unlikely. And you don’t have a strong argument by saying if you get first then third you only get 55 points and second will get you 60. You have to think of the skill and the complete randomness of rng. While you can do that you can also get last every time you can get first third forth every time. You can be in second and still manage to get hit by a blue shell or red shell or green for that matter. You need to think of the game designs and how random they can be.
@@westinian5502 You get better items in 2nd place (which improve your odds of maintaining it, since triple shell and triple banana are pretty common in 2nd place) compared to your odds of getting useful items in 1st place. If you're a REALLY good racer that paths through levels and uses items really optimally, like Tom, then you'll probably get 1st place unless RNG really fucks you. But if you don't have hardcore skills like that, 2nd place is a reasonably good place to shoot for. Going for first place will probably just get you assblasted into 5th.
