This chess video is all about display the contrast from black to bright colours. I prefer an HDR video by Samsung: Samsung HDR Wonderland a lot more for HDR testing. Search for it on Google and you will see what I mean. On RUclips, that video just looks crap with the typical muted colours.
I remember seeing this on an LG OLED 4k with HDR and it looks amazing. I tried seeing this on my Dell XPS 9560 and its nothing like the OLED deep blacks plus the areas that are dark are very bright in that TV.
What constitutes a HDR video ? Does a 10 bit 422 video qualify as a HDR video on youtube ? A camera like sony A73 or sony AX700 does HDR but at 8 bit 420 . Do video from cameras like these qualify as HDR video on youtube ?
Great question. On 4K disk, it means 4:2:0 10 bit (HDR10) or 12 bit (Dolby Vision). RUclips uses a different format, but they support 10 bit HDR video. If you check what 4K disks are available you will notice a bunch of older digital movies have 4K HDR releases, even if they were filmed on 8 bit 420. So, sometimes they bend the truth.
I know in conventional calibrations (limited dynamic range) they tell you to set the contrast to see 230-234, and brightness to see 17-25 flashing. I have an LG OLED65B6P connected to a NVIDIA GTX 1080 set at RGB Full. In my test patterns, I can easily see the full dynamic range: whites up to 253 and blacks as low as 2. But where should I set the contrast and brightness? I can't find any HDR/Full Dynamic Range calibrations out there. The way I have it now, I still kept 17 as the reference black, but turned down the contrast so I could see flashing at 253. This video looks fine, but there are some areas such as the inside of the blue robe at 0:32 or the back of the chair at 0:49 that look unusually dark. Is it that I'm not used to HDR, or are these considered "crushing" blacks?

Is that because the TV is doing a really good job of upscaling it?
I guess it's a combination of multiple things, including upscaling, low bitrate streaming, and maybe our eyes are not that good anymore :) Also generally if a video was originally shot on very expensive cameras with high resolution it looks good in 1080 as well. RUclips HDR is only available using Chromecast Ultra or some Samsung HDR TVs. As of right now it is NOT available on LG TVs. I also have an LG TV and I have to use a Chromecast Ultra.

I can see that the golden parts of the woman's cloth are more detailed/real in color on a HDR UHD TV than on my SDR FHD notebook. Not just because of the increased resolution. On my PC monitor it is like a yellow textile and on the Samsung 49KS7000 it is gold.

The video does have a 4K version as well. I asked RUclips why it does not switch to 4K for some users and they said it's usually because of the ISP (Internet Service Provider) - low speed.

The video is in 4K. You can check on a PC. Click the cog wheel and select 4K resolution. If you are not seeing it in 4K it's either your device or your Internet connection.

This particular video has very extreme contrast, so I would be surprised if the blacks are crushed in some parts.

When did we get HDR support on Chrome webbrowser? More easy to navigate then in the app on my Samsung 4K UHD TV.

I did view multiple files from that website on my LG OLED B6 (same as yours).
Hmmm. Did you play them going straight from the USB port? The B6 didn't recognize any of the files. I may need to try a different drive.

As far as I can tell, yes. On a C7 you should see the HDR symbol pop up for any video on this channel. Can you confirm?
