Thanks Rod as this helped me see your boat in a bit more detail. Looking forward to the upcoming video on your boat. Tim

Nice one again. Seems these trips are a delight of finding the right sail plans.

Yes, over the period of a week, we usually encounter a variety of wind velocity so sail changes are part of the experience. In addition, because the lake is really a flooded river, there are bends that result in wind direction, adding to the mix. Its always great fun.

Nice one, good detail of the Mana 24, showing how fast it truly is... Anybody can sail in a blow, but only true sailors can sail in light winds.

You make a very good point. It is more challenging to find the best approach in light winds than in strong. The Mana does like to go fast and I am still learning how get the best out of it in those conditions.

Thank you for those great videos. I really do like your boat an I am curious how it compares to the Tiki26 in regards to balance, tacking and upwind capabilities.
    Does that Mizzn really help?

Thank you, Dirk. Nice to know you like the videos - it is gratifying to hear folks enjoying them. Comparing the Mana 24 to the Tiki 26? Well, I have no experience on a Tiki 26 but I do on a Tiki 21, the first boat.I built. Tacking wise, when I first started sailing the Mana, I missed more tacks than I made, it seemed. Without a head sail, a different technique is required. The mizzen makes all the difference and I am still learning how to make the best use of it. With each sailing season, it gets better. Our seasons tend to be rather short and my life seems to conspire to keep my sailing time to a minimum so I am sure others would have perfected tacking with the Mana much sooner. The past season went well. As for pointing, until I have a T21 or T26 sailing side by side, I am not sure how to judge but I tend to think the Mana may have a slight advantage.

      Hi @@RodMcLaren ,
Thank you for the comments, that’s really interesting.
So for the tacking: do you think a small jib/Genoa would help?

@@diwude No, the boat is rigged as a cat ketch with the main mast stepped close to the bow of the boat. The mizzen performs the job that a jib does on a Bermudian rig. It is a technique which was new to me - all of my previous sailing has been done on boats with a main and jib. Instead of backing the jib when tacking, the main is backed while coming about and only brought over once the tack is completed. The mizzensail keeps the boat moving through the tack. I am not good at explaining the process. :-)
