Strauss just moves so effortlessly from one melodic theme to the next. It's like poetry.
All Strauss is music of the soul. It uplifts and makes us joyous and even when we shed tears these are not in sorrowful

Wow! To have been back in that era dancing this, sipping champagne and strolling outside under the moonlight in the gardens.
Waltzes make everything seem so elegant and classy. Like right now I’m in my pj’s shorts and a ratty tank top that has holes in it and I’m cleaning our dirty dishes and kitchen and I feel like the most elegant and refined lady ever….😂👌🏻❤️
Rising and dipping with the rhythm as you walk the dishes to the sink, laying them in one per measure...ah, the classics!

Excellent. My ancestors lived in the Crown province of Transylvania, having moved there from Bavaria in about 1850. By the genetic wheel of fortune, I am their successors. So, four generations later, I have in my blood this wonderful music. I gravitated to it in my youth and it remains. I cannot anlalyze it. Its there. Best, Mark

Never thought of it quite that way. My sister competes and does the viennese waltz and the American Waltz which allows women to be turned and spun round and round. She told me that would never have been allowed and would have been allowed and scandalous if they danced like we do now or wore the outfits women wear now. I've never understood what was the big deal about "ankles" showing either.

Type in Wiener Blut in a search engine & will guide you to Wikipedia & translate - 'Viennese Blood' or 'Viennese Spirit'. The blood is where the spirit lies, try going w/o it. I know no Austrians personally but suppose this spirited orchestration is demonstrative of their vivaciousness. Was dedicated to a wedding & Strauss's début with the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. All I know it raises hairs on the back of my neck & lift ones apparitions :)

I have never in 64 years of life danced a waltz. I would wish that experience on every woman out there. I once saw Shirley Temple dance the waltz with Robert Anderson (fr. Father Knows Best and Marcus Welby, M.D.) It was so exquisite and graceful. I wish I could recall the name of the movie.

I don't know why the big deal about ankles either, but the waltz was more about who you were clinging to, as much as the clinging!
The way some of the kids dance today would have gotten them in stocks back then if not hung. I love the waltz and your sister is so lucky (talented!!). The way people dress today! I work in a school where the boys have to be told to pull up their pants and girls are sent home for off the shoulder (boob hanging out). Of course, my generation had mini-skirts-short!
