I watched this one video where Rory went in the opposite direction of Jess like Jess started out bad and having no hope for his future with no one believing in him then he gets up and writes a book and makes something of himself while Rory starts out as a good student great boyfriends then she cheats with Dean drops out of Yale when her boyfriend’s father says she hasn’t got what it takes so why bother similar to Jess dropping out of school because why bother? I just like how they both got each other out of those situations. Rory shows Jess that he has potential so he uses it. Jess yells at her and reminds her that her not going to Yale is not who she is. But this dialogue in season 3 episode 4 when Lorelai is presenting to the class of high schoolers shows how many people use "getting a GED" as a way to increase their social status to those of other high school graduates, since not graduating high school is so frowned upon. BOY: Did you drop out when you got pregnant with Rory? LORELAI: No, technically, I didn’t drop out. I, uh, I kept going as long as I could while I got pregnant, which I would recommend to any girl. Everyone has bad qualities, but people who are categorized as rude don’t hide theirs. Jess, Rory, Lorelai, Dean and in fact most characters treated other people badly sometimes, but somehow, it is more criticized in Jess’ case because of his blunt nature. Seeing his growth, the fact that from the beginning he showed some hidden selfless attitudes, how he recognized Dean as manipulative (probably due to his own experience with his mother’s boyfriends), the fact that he didn’t take credit for the good things he did, and that he didn’t cheat on Shane, even if they weren’t serious, tells me that he was in fact a much better person than many on the other characters.

In 2000 when the show started i was 7 going to turn 8 i grew up watching this show im rewatching it again for the 700th time and now i know wy i am the way i am is because of this adorable guy and oh not to mention my first boyfriend s name is jessie i called him jess and there too much alike and yet im still friends with jess till this day 15 years going strong and i still love him even though were not together anymore but i know he still has feelings for me its never the right time

Jess is easily the most likable and sympathetic character. Yes he is not perfect but he grows and changes to become a better person especially considering what he has gone through it’s not said directly but insinuated that Liz is not a good mom leaving Jess to basically raise himself. He ends up being one of the most successful individuals writing his own book, forgiving his mom, and having a loving relationship with Luke. Not to mention the multiple times he’s knocked sense into Rory like when he convinced her to go back to Yale or write a book.
