    I had to create an account just to thank you. I purchased this Coolpix S01 (in another color) back in 2013. It died a few months later that year. I finally decided (less than an hour ago) to search for a solution to the same issue you were having (red ! error, couldn't take or view photos, couldn't format, wouldn't connect to my computer, etc) and came across your video. I took it apart as you did and IT WORKS NOW! Thank you so much. I'm not super tech-savvy, but this video was easy to follow and fix my camera that had been broken for the past 6 years.

    Wow, thanks for this, I got one of these for fun and ended up loving it but I never would have thought it had a non-soldered battery + sd card inside.

    Thank you so much! I kept getting the red question mark error also. This fix worked. I can’t thank you enough

    Neat little camera, I’m going to try to take mine apart and change the battery and try a larger memory card. Might try to dremel a slot if possible to take the card out without taking it apart.

    Thanks. In fact the memory card is in a proper spring-loaded holder so you can just click it in and it pops out. We now have a cute little camera working again :D

    Can I replace the 8GB Micro SD card by using one of 16GB?

    I just took mine apart, Can confirm that the battery is a Nikon EN-EL11 3.7V 650mAh 2.5 Wh. I also replaced the 8gb micro sd card with a 32gb Sandisk Ultra Plus micro SD HC1 and it does work, formatted and tested. The picture count is now 9999 on highest setting. The video mode no matter what is limited to 29mins each video. Not sure how many 29 min videos it can take. Pretty cool to be able to upgrade such a small device. On Amazon 2 aftermarket batteries and a charger is $16. I wonder on the Nikon S02 if they made changes and soldered everything in.

    Hi my nikon coolpix s01 will turn on when plugged in and show the photos but if you try turning it on when not plugged in it will just keep trying to open the camera and failing then restarting..
    Is this a dead battery or lens error?
    How could I fix this?

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  2 года назад

      Could be either one, but most likely a bad battery. You can try to replace the battery and see.

      It's an EN-EL11

    Did you happen to see the battery number?

      I think it is an en-el11 but he does not show the battery number which is why I watched the video.. oh well.
