Hey Rocco..just to share not sure why but. on the previous adjustment when I turned counter clock wise by the hub..I did not feel any tension or touch as you mentioned. ..it was way loose..I had to continue to go counter clock wise a whole turn around before I can feel tension ?...(How was it running when it was that loose)?... and once I felt the tension I set it as your video to three and quarter turn.. I will attempt another adjustment tomorrow morning..as I mentioned earlier on..Thanks

Happy to help. If you have the proper play on the pin at the hub adjustment. And the spring that's on your primary derby cover. That holes the adjustment in place. . Check adjustment and reinstall. Well they don't seem to have 55 inch cable for my bike everyone keeps telling me my new cable 52 3/4 is right but wouldn't run through like old cable under foot pedal and can't put through clamp to hold to frame. The lever seems ok lot easier to pull then old cable I haven't took on test drive yet I was worried I would ruin my clutch system but I will try it out today it just seems make loud sound when going in first gear

That's an 1/8 turn play at the clutch handle then that the clutch hub is a 1/4 turn play. If you do not have that when the clutch heats up it will burn itself out. Very very important. Watch the video and check the adjustment at the hub. Ride safe and have a great day. Hope that helps.

I have a 2005 Sportster 1200XL that pops out of first and into neutral sometimes when I go from a start. All other gears are fine. Could this be a clutch issue?
No it is not the clutch, It is a bent shifter fork or bad gear. That prevents it from fully going in to first gear. How many miles? I know the transmission seems perfect but slides out of gear. How many miles? Is it an outdoor keep bike?
hiya Rocco, update on my clutch problem... well got the bike into HD, they opened it and found that whoever had installed the clutch left out the throwout bearing retaining ring (at least this is what they told me).. this allowed everything to tighten up on its own (explains the 6 turns into the clutch on the adjustment screw) and caused the clutch pack to wear out and then everything began to rub on the adjustment screw housing essentially cutting a groove into it and weakening the housing and they told me that when the adjustment screw let go, it caused damage to the clutch basket so.... long story short ... ( lol already too long =D) 1500.oo to get her back on the road. new clutch pack, basket throwout bearing, cable and cleaning / adjustment. =/ (guess thats what I get for buying a used bike) =/
When you do a primary oil service. If your clutch engages slow. It is worth a look. Or hard to find neutral. Thank you for your Sub. Ride Safe and have a great day.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate the info. I was only curious because I noticed my clutch slipping slightly when I give it some welly, and I didn’t know if having that adjustment screw snug could potentially cause that. Thanks
Silly I know, but it’s all a learning curve lol Iv adjusted it properly now, so I’ll find out in the morning
As I was stating if those plates are too tight as it heats up, it will slip without a doubt you need FreePlay at the hub. Hope that helps.@@jasonbentley9968
It should be a quarter turn, no more than a half. that's your problem. Look at 4:50 on this video. Let us know how that works out.
Hello Rocco, Follow up on the 1200 sportster w/clutch issues..Well..followed your video to the tee...not good..same result...adusted by the motor and cable..cuunter clock turn and quarter turn Bike still screaming when put on first gear or any gear for that matter..I mean loud unbearable screeching/screaming sound..may have to take to a shop just frustrated..Thanks..
@@africano39 agree take it to a shop sounds like a hub bearing in your clutch. Let the pros look at it. Hard to believe with that kind of low miles. Let us know how it works out. And they are great bikes.
@@TwoWheelRocco tried last attempt on adjusting the primary chain..to see if that was the cause..but..unfortunately..the root cause as you pointed out has got to be the hub bearing....will bring it to closest HD shop..and will follow up...thanks again Rocco..
@@africano39 Sorry to hear that. Just let us know how it works out. Ride safe and have a great day.
Hey Rocco, will be reaching the 1000miles service soon. Is this service , something I can do my self or should I bring it in to shop...Kind of short on the change if you know what I mean....Thanks to you I know how to change oil , filter and primary fluid.., adjust clutch , change the carburetor..and spark plugs I haven't attempted....please advice. thanks & God Bless
Happy to help. What bike and what year. Thank you for watching and your sub. africano39. And of course you can do the service yourself. Any questions just ask. Ride safe and have a great day.
@@TwoWheelRocco Thanks Rocco.. 2012 , 1200 custom sportster ..

Is that grease not going to hurt the inside of that or does it break down in the oil serious question I want to know first time Harley owner
Happy to help. The grease will break down in your primary with your oil. Good luck with your new ride. Any questions just ask.. Thank you for watching and your sub Ed. Ride safe and have a great day.
I got clutch cable for my 2000 Harley sportster xl1200 said was 52 3/4 inches even tho I kept measuring 55 old cable on bike but Harley n Google said otherwise got new cable the 52 3/4 it's shorter than original so we still got it to fit but had to run it above foot pedal instead under all connected but when try to put in 1st it makes crazy sound from the circle primary cover we have adjusted few times n still same issue what did we might have done wrong
Happy to help. If you have the proper play on the pin at the hub adjustment. And the spring that's on your primary derby cover. That holes the adjustment in place. . Check adjustment and reinstall. I would buy the right cable. How is the Clutch handle operating and feel? Thank you for watching and your sub.Lynette. Let us know how it works out. Ride safe and have a great day.
@@lynette5382 If you could send me a picture of that set up, and your bike handlebars to the ERocco3964@gmail.com I really would like to see it and try to help. I've had many sportsters
I have a 2007 sportster 1200 nightster.
In first gear with clutch fully in its jumping forward. Do you think a clutch adjustment would fix this issue ?
Should mention this started when I shut the bike off in first gear, and started it one time in first gear instead of neutral.
Happy to help. That is where I would start a little free play at the pin at your hub. Thank you for watching and your sub Natalie. Ride safe and have a great day.
What would cause the clutch to not disengage until the lever almost hits the grip when both the adjustment under the cover and at the lever are correct? 2006 1200L
Happy to help. I would try a quarter turn out, on the adjustment at the hub. See if that helps. Let us know how that works out. And how many miles on this bike?. Thank you for watching in your sub Gerald. Ride safe and have a great day.
@@TwoWheelRocco Thanks! 7900 miles. You mean a quarter turn to the right?
@@geraldscott4302 yes a quarter turn in.
@@TwoWheelRocco It worked out great. Thanks. Your videos are more helpful than a couple of Sportster forums I belong to.
@@geraldscott4302 happy to hear all went well. Ride safe and have a great day.
Hi Rocco my 2010 HD sportster xl 1200 c clutch is slipping. I Gas the crap out of it, it revs high but does not match the amount of gas I'm giving it ANY SUGGESTIONS PLS
Happy to Help, How many miles? Did you try the adjustment at the hub? Do you have play in your clutch handle? Thats were I would start. If that don't work out you will need to do a clutch, which is friction plates. You will need some special tools to remove the diaphragm Spring on your clutch. Let us know how that works out. Thank you for watching and your sub. Dtm. Ride Safe and have a great day.
Can a bad adjustment make it feel like my clutch is burnt just had plates put in
Happy to help. If you have a 1/4 turn adjustment at the hub and an 8th inch play at your clutch handle that's it. I would check it and see what you got. Thank you for watching all your support coffee tree. Ride safe and have a great day.
@@TwoWheelRocco thank you so much just checked and that’s about an 8th inch of play
That's an 1/8 turn play at the clutch handle then that the clutch hub is a 1/4 turn play. If you do not have that when the clutch heats up it will burn itself out. Very very important. Watch the video and check the adjustment at the hub. Ride safe and have a great day. Hope that helps.
Would this help with a stiff clutch?
What bike? How many Miles? Is it A stock clutch?
@@TwoWheelRocco It's 2003 Sportster Anniversary 883 Hugger. Yes it's a stock cluck. It's got just under 15k miles.
@@TheWsh1025 I would oil your clutch cable. Sounds like a stiff cable. 03 Sportster are easy clutch. Remove, inspect, oil and reinstall. Let us know how this works out. Thank you for your Sub. Ride Safe and have a great day.
@@TwoWheelRocco Awesome! I'll try that. Thanks so much! Love the vids man! Keep'em coming.
@@TheWsh1025 Any question just ask.
Sorry, I should of asked is it forward controls?
hiya Rocco, update on my clutch problem... well got the bike into HD, they opened it and found that whoever had installed the clutch left out the throwout bearing retaining ring (at least this is what they told me).. this allowed everything to tighten up on its own (explains the 6 turns into the clutch on the adjustment screw) and caused the clutch pack to wear out and then everything began to rub on the adjustment screw housing essentially cutting a groove into it and weakening the housing and they told me that when the adjustment screw let go, it caused damage to the clutch basket so.... long story short ... ( lol already too long =D) 1500.oo to get her back on the road. new clutch pack, basket throwout bearing, cable and cleaning / adjustment. =/ (guess thats what I get for buying a used bike) =/
On the bright side, You are back on the road. Thanks for the update. Ride safe.and have a great day.
When will you know it needs adjusting. Thanx watch all your vids
When you do a primary oil service. If your clutch engages slow. It is worth a look. Or hard to find neutral. Thank you for your Sub. Ride Safe and have a great day.
I think Harley also recommends you adjust it every 3-5k miles or something like that, I adjust mine whenever I do an oil change(engine oil).
Hey Rocco can you do a video on throttle cable installation? thanks for another awesome video.
