I was at Essendon with older brother and father to watch the Ansett and TAA 727’s arrive back in 64! Ansett was a fantastic Airline, probably the best Australia had in its original ownership!
I remember being gobsmacked as a child in the 60's when I saw a 727 at Adelaide airport. In those days it was possible to stand at a gate right next to the tarmac where you could greet the passengers, in this case where we met Mum who'd just flown back from Melbourne. Such an innocent time.
My Dad's Favourite Comercial aircraft! Was very special to see dad talking about the 727 at the start of the clip! My son's face lit up when he saw Pa on the computer!! lol
I've got an interview with your Dad all about the 72, let me know if you want a copy I see Lionel has passed away, I'm sorry to hear about that... regards to your family - Paul Brennan.
David please let me know if you’d like the copy of this that made Ansett News video - I just converted it to DVD the other day and it’s just gone up On an Ansett Facebook page. Knew your dad he was a lovely bloke - my dad was the second one in the video talking about the 727 - he worked with and knew your dad too. Cheers - James
The first jet aircraft I ever flew in back in 1965. I used to love watching the flaps open on approach to landing. I don't think I've seen an aircraft since with such an amazing leading and trailing flap configuration or such a beautiful wing, with maybe the exception of the 787. Wonderful aircraft.
+Crosshead1 Back in the 70s I read an interview by a Boeing engineer (will never recall who it was after so many decades) saying the 727 wing was by far the most aerodynamically advanced wing that Boeing ever built, and that they didn't expect to put that much effort into an airliner wing ever again.
history will tell us Australia did the right thing by rejecting the trident in favor of the 727 when it came time to join the jet age domestically in the 60's.
I was on the first DC9/JET to land in Tasmania. Must have been 1967. Before that we had Viscounts and Electra and F-27s. Use to work for Reg, '81-'88. B727 started in 1965. Reg sadly died Christmas 1981. I remember as I got the telex off the machine at WX. A great pioneer in air travel!
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Kolton Major i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
3:00 Reg Ansett had a real ocker folksy persona ..apparently he was well liked by most employees. He used to get around in Buicks..got a new one every year or so.
Awesome. I did a 767 jump seat flight Melbourne to Coolangatta 1997. As I was a GA pilot at the time flying 172s the captain turned to me on takeoff from Tullamarine and said 'how do you like that for power', one of the highlights of my life. They were the days....
David - sure leave it with me and when I do some tape digitising (which will be in the short term), I'll run off the interview, filmed in 97 at Melbourne Ansett Air Freight and get back to you - cheers
A beautiful Airline. I am proud to say I worked for them for over 23 Years. What a sad reflection that the Howard Government let it go and not be sold to Singapore Airlines, who had the money to put it back up there.
If anybody wants to see the cockpit if a real ex-Ansett 727, visit the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica, CA where it can be seen in the colors of FedEx. They offered the entire A/C, but there was no room, so they settled for the most important part. It's a huge hit with the kids.
Australia domestically had it not been for REG ANSETT would have had it's first domestic jet planes in the form of the caravelles in 1959 as per what TAA wanted and they fight back with say a convair 880/990 till later 727's were available.it's unfortunate when the rest of the world went the jet age in 1958/1959 we had to wait 5 years.
I have an AN 727 cockpit view DVD of a 1990 Perth/ Melbourne flt. When introduced, the aircraft was unhindered by ATC or fuel economy restrictions. This allowed the 727 to climb at 300 knots, descend at 350 & cruise at Mach .82 or higher. Very slippery beast.
I'm taking flight lesonss are flight rules in your country the same as us is it true on a visual approach announce approaching visual transisation 1000 feet ago 800 feet ago make visual transisation and on ILS landing anounec approaching visual 1000 feet all nb make visual transition 200 feet ago thanks I have about 30 hours in flight training with cfi
Baseless and incorrect, been in aviation for 45 years, one of the safest best designed aircraft of its time. Guess what I flew at the start of my career?

Probably the best ad I ever saw the Albatross taking off in a climbing turn it’s wings touching the water.
Thanks for this. The 727 is a joy. Loved flying it. Aussie Bob 😊

Yep, awesome memories, love the 727.

That commercial at the end was breathtaking

Flying has not been the same since the loss of those two fabulous airlines TAA & ANSETT. Aussie Bob
Tasmania airport in Launceston was great to watch planes. All changed now like everything else 😢
Yes I crewed RME after being transferred to Melbourne from Brisbane in August 64 in time for training for this marvellous aircraft.
Great video. I was on the last ever Ansett 727 flight from Melbourne to Sydney.

I had a very enjoyable night flight in the jump set Brisbane to Sydney in the 70's

@@Robochop-vz3qm, as a flight attendant. I sat in the jump seat many times for landings , during the 70s. A wonderful experience.
TO ALL AUSTRALIAN TRAVELLERS AND INTERNET PARTICIPANTS, THOUGH A PAST GENERATION, THIS BOEING 727-200 HAS BEEN OUR UTMOST SPECIALTY!!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AIRLINE ! ANSETT B727 ! LOUD THREE ENGINE PLANE !
Uncle Arthur flew the first into Australia.
That would be great Paul! Thank you

RIP Ansett
WHEN YOU SEE IT
I'm trying to get hold of high res footage (professional video copy or 35mm film) of the Ansett 727 do you have any ideas
We have Beta SP footage of Ansett 727s at Melbourne and Perth from the mid - late 90s
What did Ansett replace the 727s with?
It was the a320s in pretty sure
+John Eddy better question would be : what did Air New Zealand replace Ansett with ?
+G Mc Virgin Blue, Not a good replacement IMO
0::25 somewhat of a contradiction here.

Ha, they know about flight. Well they used to, but then the kiwis with the chip on the shoulder the size of Ayers Rock, drove them out of business
KING GEORGE WORLD RESPECT RESPECTED WORLD WIDE EMPIRE
That captain looks like a good heart attack candidate.
This model of aircraft has had more accidents than any other. 1121 accidents and over 230,000 deaths. These are scary
