Great, honest review! My 12 is absolutely flawless. Unless something goes terribly wrong in the next few days, Im a happy cuatomer. I, too, have had issues with Italian QC. I would be thrilled if they'd make the switch to Reate permanently. That said, the Italians absolutely nail it sometimes. I absolutely agree they should do better.
Have the GMP12 and when I received it, it was absolutely brutal. Very weak detent, button stick and blade was off centre big time. So, I took it apart removed the grease they used and cleaned it all. Used Nano oil and then put it back together. Spring can be very tricky for the novices out there. Anyway, still wasn’t happy with the blade centering and took it apart a second time. This time removing the spacer away from the scales as well and boom! Put it back together and it was like a completely different knife. Strong flipping power, no button stick and centred, love it so much now. Also, all button locks have a weakish detent so first timers of button locks beware. And lastly, I believe that bronze scales may be the culprit to issues. Just a hunch.
@ as far as QC is concerned this rests solely on the principals of GM not Italy. Wirth, Anso, and Vox et al are to blame. They surely inspected the knives and let these get to us. If it were me and I had even a single one like mine and yours, I would have packed the knives up and sent them all back to Italy so that they could fix the issues. I never would have allowed these to get into customers hands.
I own the gm8, gm11 and now the gm12. On all my examples I have a weaker than expected detent by today's standard, and in comparison to other manufacturers. I think the problem is the knives made in Maniago Italy more often than not have weak detents. Lock up is not and issue and the build is solid but. I really think they should move away from Maniago or tellem to get their shit together
I ended up in the ER last night for 6 stitches using this knife... I did not know there was issues until this morning someone posted in the olight group this knife was getting recalled for QC, this isn't my first GM and we all know there was issues in the past but I really thought things would have been worked out by now, I think its time to look at legal actions for anyone thats been hurt or sent to the ER for using their knives. I'd like to see you do a spine slap test on this knife or was it excluded cause you knew already it would fail.
@drewmcclitcock1403 so you are threatening legal action and now saying I would hold back important information if I thought a lock would fail? ?? I tested it for 30 seconds a piece and neither failed. I have only posted 1 spine test maybe 2 in all my reviews. I would NEVER withhold negative information. I post these reviews to be helpful.
@@edc_knife_collection towards the company no you... and how come no one is doing the tests with the one that failed? very little issues with the plain Jane one your testing, don't act like I'm the only one asking these questions, its all over the internet at this point.
Great video brother

Same! Reate is far more consistent

@drewmcclitcock1403 How did you get cut from using the knife? What was wrong with the knife itself to cause you to get cut????????????
Sorry you injured yourself, bro, but I can assure you Rick wouldn't withhold issues, especially one that could be dangerous.
