Around 8:00 : - etymology of sine: I personally find it very interesting that the original word in Sanskrit meant bowstring. Nowadays the sine function is often explained by reference to a unit circle. It can equally be explained by reference to a bent bow : the function is the ratio of the distance between the points of attachment of the string and the length of the string [ the latter remains constant ] . This bowstring length is analogous to twice the radius of the unit circle.
If history had not made it otherwise we might today be referring to Bowstring instead of Sine, with the chance of a more intuitive picture of a bow instead of the unit circle.

What puzzles me isn't the cochlea presenting the brain with a Fourier analysis but the brains ability to put the frequencies arriving from different sources together enabling us to hear distinct complex sounds.
For example individual instruments in an orchestra can be heard even though the frequencies arriving from each will overlap. At the same time those sounds are blended to provide the distinct sound of an orchestra.
Is it possible for a mono recording to be separated into tracks each containing one instrument - a demixer as it were? If so I'm guessing that the software is not trivial.
We do get some clues. For example holding a conversation with someone around a cooker while frying sausages results in sibilants in the voice being masked by the sizzle. In this case the brain interprets the sibilant as part of the sizzle and we just don't hear it. The effect is like being a bit cloth eared s becomes f and so on.

another reason 360 degrees is useful is because it allows you to divide by 3,6,9 and 12 without getting annoying recurring decimals like 33.33333333

Radians, the missing piece from the lecture...
She defines radian as distance along the circle without mentioning how many radians comprise a full circle...a question 12 year old asked.
