I think it was a mistake when it was either the Czechoslovakian government or the Soviet Union government that sold off many of the surviving Tiger tanks to the Syrian government where the Syrian government lost them in combat during the Arab-Israeli Wars [ correction: I think that the German tanks in the Syria military were actually Stugs and Panzer IV's and not Tiger or Panther tanks? ]

Other historians didn't so much ignore this, it is simply irrelevant to the larger historical understanding of WW2 or even Hitler as a person. Of course, stories like this are intriguing to us and reveal a lot of compelling second hand facts but for most historians (that do not cater to a RUclips audience) they are not the focus of their research. I don't mean this in a judgemental way at all, I absolutely love Mark's videos, the topics he covers and his enthousiasm for history. I just wanted to point to the fact, that history as an academic discipline has moved away from the certainly fascinating yet less 'revealing' stories of the lives of certain people and the stories of singular artefacts. Because most historians believe that deeper historical knowledge comes from analyzing long-term sociopolitical and cultural processes. Those, of course, make for less captivating videos.

No matter who might have that globe, it warms my heart to hear that it might have survived! These sort of objects are very valuable historically and it breaks my heart whenever I learn that rare and special made things like that are lost or destroyed. Let's hope that someday it will be available for display so that the public can enjoy viewing it.

I go along with your theory that Hitler's globe is now in Russia. If so, they might as well admit that they have it and put it on display in a museum. These are great videos indeed but the constant comparing to school is somewhat tiresome. Military history is just one part of the curriculum. Sad fact for students who love everything and anything regarding guns, tanks and Hitler.

The globe at the Bergof in the Great Hall was actually a similar if not the exact same size as the one this video is of. In Christa Schroeder's book there is a photo of her standing next to it.
I recall going to an old restaurant in the Catskills that also served as an antique shop. I like looking at old globes. I remember seeing one that must've been from the war since Germany looked a lot bigger than it normally should.

Hey Mark, great video. Have you ever done a video about Hitler's record collection? This is also a fascinating story that only recently came to light a couple of years ago. Hitler's extensive classical record collection, contained in special leather-bound volumes, was with him in the Berlin bunker in 1945. It was seized by Marshall Zhukov, who took it back to Moscow. It remained secretly in the possession of the Zhukov family until they finally announced they had it, and I believe was put up for auction.

An episode on the Kyūjō incident may be interesting. It was a coup attempt during the final days of the war in the Pacific by members of the Japanese ministry of defense. They attempted to storm the Emperor's palace and physically prevent the record on which his surrender speech was recorded from being broadcast.
An indie RUclips explorer found the Amber Room and filmed its first unwrapping since WW2. Then he re-wrapped it and left it the way he found it. Which is wise because dangerous people know where the Amber Room is stashed. Hitler can't do much about a whole government making off with his globe but if some random guy stole the Amber Room he'd go missing 411.

I was a medic in the US Army Reserve. In 2002 I spent two weeks working in the ER at the US Army Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany. This is the same hospital in which Patton died in 1945. The room in which he died has a small wall cabinet next to the door with photos and news articles about Patton, his traffic accident and his death. When I was there the room was being used for taking X-Rays. I have a picture of myself and one of my buddies standing next to the X-Ray table in the room.
Never tought about this object of intrest and was not aware how huge and heavy it is. I have a tiny correction though: The Campbell Barracks where not given to the Bavarian Government, obviously since Heidelberg is in Baden-Württemberg, but where instead sold to the "Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben" to start a conversion process for the barracks and other areas and facilities to be turned into residential buildings and preserve some as landmarks.
This channel is better than most when it comes to telling history more accurately. If this same video was made by another “historian” more then likely the entire video would have been something along the lines of, “Hitler bad. His globe was big because he was overcompensating. In his evil bloodlust rage...” you get the point.
If in Moscow, it is interesting that the Russians would keep this quiet for so long. I can see anyone from a janitor all the way up to the top of the KGB letting it slip that a huge globe is sitting in that building. No one can keep their mouth shut for that long. Of course, if it is there, it would have to be authenticated. Something that might be difficult. This makes me wonder, if in fact, it is there at all. If I were to stumble upon it in some antique store, I'd think it was just a globe. Kind of difficult to move if it weighed as much as a VW Bug.

During de-Stalinization Beria was convicted of crimes against humanity, murder, rape, and of course counter-revolution (can't have a Soviet trial without that) so I think they would have moved any artefacts he might have had in possession to somewhere else.

I thought it was generally well accepted that the Russians had secretly taken most of these highly iconic items. Ive always assumed since my young adulthood that what ppl always thought destroyed, like the two Horses, were quietly and quickly taken by the Russians. Altho i have read the recent book about Hitlers Horses. You see... while we might not have all the historical facts - I do understand people, and was intrigued by the mutual personal and philosophical hatred the two had for each other - even in my teens as an eager history student . Stalins sense of personal gloating and sheer pleasure at Hitlers demise by their first arrival..would have been too much to resist, and TRUE defeat is often characterised by a drive to own the others most treasured items. Like rival royals who steal each others jewels as a trophy (Elizabeth I wearing Mary's fave pearls etc). Also - my father spent his life dealing in antiques - and as a rule - he taught me that greedy people dont generally destroy valuable items as much as they will steal them and then keep them as quiet trophies - or sell them when economic need or political points scoring is just too tempting. all very interesting. I think if Russia truely opened up - we would find a treasure trove of missing art, gold, statues and other treasures belonging or owned by the Nazi's.!

@@jansix4287 why? Hitler spent approximately 40% of his time there. After 1939 it became an official military HQ. Lots of meetings and big decisions took place there. In fact, Hitler spent so much time in Berchtesgaden his entire staff moved to live there near him.

Battlefields, bunkers, Cape Canaveral Apollo launch pads, Meteor Crater in Arizona, where President Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address, etc. Some historical places are celebrations while others are tragedies. My grandfather (U.S. Army) fought against the Nazis (Hitler’s socialist party) during WW2. As expected it really impacted my grandfather’s life.

Mark Feltons shows are provocative and brilliant always. I never refuse watching.
No matter who might have that globe, it warms my heart to hear that it might have survived! These sort of objects are very valuable historically and it breaks my heart whenever I learn that rare and special made things like that are lost or destroyed. Let's hope that someday it will be available for display so that the public can enjoy viewing it.
The only RUclips channel that I can confidently recommend to someone to watch if I want to support my answer in a discussion about ww2.

I go along with your theory that Hitler's globe is now in Russia. If so, they might as well admit that they have it and put it on display in a museum. I just wonder how Beria could have ended up with it, because I think Stalin would have wanted it for his own office. Maybe it was a reward for loyal service or a present of sorts. Or the sneaky Beria just didn't tell him!

Dr Felton's final comment about Hitler's Globe joining the Blutfhane and the Amber Room as something people are still searching for even today set my creative core going in odd directions (as often happens) and now I have a story concept in mind about a relic hunter succeeding in bringing together Hitler's Globe, his ashes, the Blutfhane, and also the piece of stone shaped like a hand (hence dubbed the Hand of Wotan) kept Hitler's desk at either the Obersalzberg or the Wolfsschanze, only to realise too late what he's unleashed...
That makes at least three story Ideas I owe you, Dr Felton. Credit will be given!

These are great videos indeed but the constant comparing to school is somewhat tiresome. Military history is just one part of the curriculum. Sad fact for students who love everything and anything regarding guns, tanks and Hitler.

The globe at the Bergof in the Great Hall was actually a similar if not the exact same size as the one this video is of. In Christa Schroeder's book there is a photo of her standing next to it.

I recall going to an old restaurant in the Catskills that also served as an antique shop. I like looking at old globes. I remember seeing one that must've been from the war since Germany looked a lot bigger than it normally should.
Stalin found out that Beria hid the globe from him and ordered him arrested and killed, but died shortly after that of a stroke, when he saw that Beria had drawn stick men and other doodles all over the globe.
Hey Mark, great video. Have you ever done a video about Hitler's record collection? This is also a fascinating story that only recently came to light a couple of years ago. Hitler's extensive classical record collection, contained in special leather-bound volumes, was with him in the Berlin bunker in 1945. It was seized by Marshall Zhukov, who took it back to Moscow. It remained secretly in the possession of the Zhukov family until they finally announced they had it, and I believe was put up for auction.
I find myself looking forward to and anticipating Dr. Feltons new releases. That means it's time to start supporting. Pay pal and patreon you say? On my way.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union many valuable things and objects became private (suddenly). It's in case, if the globe was in the KGB headquaters at the time.
Lets not forget Hitlers other missing globe, which ended up disappointing Eva Braun.

An episode on the Kyūjō incident may be interesting. It was a coup attempt during the final days of the war in the Pacific by members of the Japanese ministry of defense. They attempted to storm the Emperor's palace and physically prevent the record on which his surrender speech was recorded from being broadcast.

An indie RUclips explorer found the Amber Room and filmed its first unwrapping since WW2. Then he re-wrapped it and left it the way he found it. Which is wise because dangerous people know where the Amber Room is stashed. Hitler can't do much about a whole government making off with his globe but if some random guy stole the Amber Room he'd go missing 411.
How Dr Felton continues to crank out amazing story after amazing story, without having a huge army of researchers under his command, is a constant source of wonder! Now he's brought it up though, when do we get a video on Hitlers missing testicle?

I was a medic in the US Army Reserve. In 2002 I spent two weeks working in the ER at the US Army Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany. This is the same hospital in which Patton died in 1945. The room in which he died has a small wall cabinet next to the door with photos and news articles about Patton, his traffic accident and his death. When I was there the room was being used for taking X-Rays. I have a picture of myself and one of my buddies standing next to the X-Ray table in the room.
Never tought about this object of intrest and was not aware how huge and heavy it is. I have a tiny correction though: The Campbell Barracks where not given to the Bavarian Government, obviously since Heidelberg is in Baden-Württemberg, but where instead sold to the "Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben" to start a conversion process for the barracks and other areas and facilities to be turned into residential buildings and preserve some as landmarks.
Thanks for that correction. As a former student in Heidelberg i felt pain, when it was moved to Bavaria.

This channel is better than most when it comes to telling history more accurately. If this same video was made by another “historian” more then likely the entire video would have been something along the lines of, “Hitler bad. His globe was big because he was overcompensating. In his evil bloodlust rage...” you get the point.
If in Moscow, it is interesting that the Russians would keep this quiet for so long. I can see anyone from a janitor all the way up to the top of the KGB letting it slip that a huge globe is sitting in that building. No one can keep their mouth shut for that long. Of course, if it is there, it would have to be authenticated. Something that might be difficult. This makes me wonder, if in fact, it is there at all. If I were to stumble upon it in some antique store, I'd think it was just a globe. Kind of difficult to move if it weighed as much as a VW Bug.
This is my thinking, it is hard to believe if it were there that it wouldn't be known by now,.

I think that anyone who saw it would think nothing of it, not even thinking that it may have been owned by Hitler previously. But anyone who worked at the KGB, even the cleaners, would have it driven home not to say a word about anything in that building; the threat of being sent to Siberia, or death, being very real.

During de-Stalinization Beria was convicted of crimes against humanity, murder, rape, and of course counter-revolution (can't have a Soviet trial without that) so I think they would have moved any artefacts he might have had in possession to somewhere else.
But if it was kept in hus office, it would be treated as property of the KGB. However it could be "privatized" in the 1990s.

@nig a Greta Garbo was a double agent? I must admit that I wasn't even aware of this in spite the fact that I'm a massive fan of Classic Hollywood. That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. She very much kept to herself and never held down a relationship (indeed she slept with both men and women including the likes of Louise Brooks), but she was never ever in a stable relationship.

Stalin would've looked at that globe each day, ruminating over what its previous owner might've thought when _he_ looked at it.
Malenkov wasn't there long enough to get to know it and subsequently desire it.
Khrushchev would've considered it his globe, but then Brezhnev coveted it.

I thought it was generally well accepted that the Russians had secretly taken most of these highly iconic items. Ive always assumed since my young adulthood that what ppl always thought destroyed, like the two Horses, were quietly and quickly taken by the Russians. Altho i have read the recent book about Hitlers Horses.
You see... while we might not have all the historical facts - I do understand people, and was intrigued by the mutual personal and philosophical hatred the two had for each other - even in my teens as an eager history student . Stalins sense of personal gloating and sheer pleasure at Hitlers demise by their first arrival..would have been too much to resist, and TRUE defeat is often characterised by a drive to own the others most treasured items. Like rival royals who steal each others jewels as a trophy (Elizabeth I wearing Mary's fave pearls etc). Also - my father spent his life dealing in antiques - and as a rule - he taught me that greedy people dont generally destroy valuable items as much as they will steal them and then keep them as quiet trophies - or sell them when economic need or political points scoring is just too tempting. all very interesting. I think if Russia truely opened up - we would find a treasure trove of missing art, gold, statues and other treasures belonging or owned by the Nazi's.!

@@jansix4287 why? Hitler spent approximately 40% of his time there. After 1939 it became an official military HQ. Lots of meetings and big decisions took place there. In fact, Hitler spent so much time in Berchtesgaden his entire staff moved to live there near him.

Battlefields, bunkers, Cape Canaveral Apollo launch pads, Meteor Crater in Arizona, where President Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address, etc. Some historical places are celebrations while others are tragedies. My grandfather (U.S. Army) fought against the Nazis (Hitler’s socialist party) during WW2. As expected it really impacted my grandfather’s life.
