The only thing I can say is, I think you can pull off a "It was like every other day" only if it takes place in some kind of fantasy world. You'd need some kinda of conflict later, but for the first chapter, a simple day could be used for good world building and character introductions.

Quick question, how does one avoid giving what I call "cheap answers" to plot building questions. I once had to sacrifice an entire chapter to avoid giving a cheap answer, but then I was left with a character development plot hole, so the character continued to feel one dimensional.
Miki Falls has an amazingly interesting premise (no spoilers here, but involves Hiro's job) that I have never seen before, and found inherently interesting immediately. Shame, Mark Crilley! Shame! You deserve more credit than you give yourself, my friend.
Are story ideas the same thing as a premise? Cuz what I did is wrote down my ideas in a Google doc. I have 7 ideas and I started to write one of them into an outline. This is the idea I wrote for my first story: A brownie loses her 2 month child due to illness that specifically targets young brownies. But later adopts a human child and raises her as her own. I hope to turn this into a story soon.
I would rather write the story first and then later write the premise when I finish it because I have a hard time trying to process how's my story gonna be like.

Also, TW- it includes talk of suicide so this is the premise: a man's wife dies and she returns as a ghost. She wants him to 'join her' and convinces him to kill himself, but every time he's about to, he gets nervous and purposely fails or won't do it. She gets mad and becomes very horrible and says he 'doesn't love her enough'. His friendships and job are going well and so he appreciates life and doesn't want to die. His wife tries to sabotage the things in his life that bring him joy in hopes that he will realise he's better as a ghost with her. and I'm not sure abt the ending but I think she'll somehow trick her husband into dying but he realises how abusive shes become so he leaves her and she realises that in trying to get him to join her, she drove them further apart? But I'm not sure if that's a good ending?

Their everyday life includes fighting crime and monsters wherever needed via portals that they have. I’m having a lot of trouble making more of an interesting premise... any suggestions? Oh and I also made this main villain Named Starless who’s a humanized black hole but I still have no idea how to include him into the premise. Any ideas???
