Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

The Thunder Ridge Mine without a doubt has been a great mine so far. Possibly the biggest one that Gly has been in so far?
“Gly”: And it keeps getting bigger. Stay tuned!
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces , I think that when it ccmes to mines, certainly richer deposits have the most open spaces from its recovery processes. I think I recall an episode you visit a salt mine that you had been able to tour in a vehicle as those mines were massive! Hope you stay well and continue getting out, and yet with us, sharing your passion to fans at almost every level.. See what I did there? ha.
When I went to leave a comment I got a warning to be respectful. I've never seen that before and would not expect anyone being disrespectful on Gly's channel comment section.
Although Gly was fat shaming that rat 😆.
Absolutely amazing gly! Hopefully someone knows where you are when you venture into the abyss happy trails⛏⛰
@@thineownentity😊😊
We appreciate what you do. If it wasn't for brave people like you we would never know what exists in those underground mines. Thank you for the history lessons you provide. Be safe and get a partner for extra safety. We don't want to lose you.
sounds like Gly is gonna have a stroke or heart attach with all the heavy breathing and obese body fat percentage
cringe breathing into the mic
He's got people that would go with him into these mines but he won't let anyone else go with him either cause if he would I'd be proud to join him and do it now and he said in a previous video that he wasn't going to let any of us join him in their either okay but he tells us on every video that it's not safe to go into them alone now too and that in itself isn't safe either
GLY Is very experienced. 2, reason , he probably wouldn’t have the time or patience s to BABYSIT
@@tinadelwiche416 he's not the only person that knows how to do it and be safe with it either okay
@@jamesburke5709 I don't judge no one until I know them a d I know GLY s work is GOLDEN, so I can only judge him, no others
Hello Gly

Take care
Yours Frank Galetzka
Good morning Gly..I was waiting to hear and see the rest of this particular mine exploration. 💖🥰
Gly, thank you for what you do! Makes for a great Saturday morning view every week.
Took the words right out of my mind
As always Gly, fantastic work, and it is always good to see your face light up with the excitement that you had with this mine, you were grinning from ear to ear! And the great thing about your channel is that your excitement is contagious to me. and then, after looking at ballrooms big enough to hold small five to ten story building inside of them, you pop out of the mine on almost the Ridge of the Thunder ridge mine to show the fantastic view from your position, and looking at the thunderstorm moving away from you over the peaks and valleys off in the distance! A view with such good visibility that you can see for miles and miles. Thank you once again for your work and your passion, and your efforts to show it to us. I have always burned with a itching curiosity to know what the inside of a mine looks like and you have shown us so much more! I greatly look forward to Saturdays because it's when your new episodes are released! Have a fantastic week my friend and I hope look forward to seeing the next part of this episode next week! Be safe!
“Gly”: Thank you very much, I’m happy your enjoyed this one. The question is… is this the end? Is this the finale?? Stay tuned!!
Gly, I've never seen you happier. Adorable.
Someone wrote, "The IRS ruins everything." I say everything associated with the government ruins everything. I used to work with the beginnings of personal computers in the 1970s; those were the days that were wide open you could pretty much do whatever you want with a computer but when the government got involved with regulating personal computers the fun all went out of them. This mine is a rich silver mine; why it isn't being mined, who knows. When I was a kid and my family drove through Virginia City, Nevada we stopped off at the Comstock Mine; it didn't look as rich as this one and I purchased a sample of the ore. I choose "Clyde", for the rat's name. Thanks Gly for exploring this mine.
“Gly”: The bottom line is too much regulation, that’s why this one isn’t being mined commercially but I’m still not convinced that this is a commercially valuable site. I’m going to have to go deeper.
Wow, wow, wow!!!! That is an unbelievable amount of ore taken out of there! Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks Gly, have a great week!
Just love your Saturday morning explore. Look forward to the every week. Stay safe out there. Thank you for bringing us all along with you.
Ahhhh kicking back with my breakfast danish enjoying some more goodness brought to you by the one and only Gly Coolness!
It still boggles the mind that the miners could dig out so much of that out. Huge ballrooms!😮. Keep it going Gly. Hurry up next week.
GLY,, thank you for another extraordinary video. I think the weekly regular captivated audience would agree. GLY I think since your doing gigantism areas, it’s time for a bigger camera so you don’t miss out on the little things also,, just saying. Love the illumination of your light display. It’s time for some new toys so you can explore even more t cool stuff in your playground. And be that only little kid again in the candy store. What great enthusiasm you have for your impeccable work ethic. We sure appreciate all your time and talent into your videos. It shows in your top shelf display in every video and it only gets better with each passing Saturday,,,GEE I wonder why. Once again love the spectacular drone footage and documentation of the outdoor surroundings. GLY we’re there s a way, there s a will, when u found that other opening from the bottom looking up. Yes , there was a bottom on that bore hole. Love your work. Thank you GLY
“Gly”: Thanks Tina! Yep, new cameras are coming this fall and it’s going to be awesome. 👍👍
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Gly that’s because your awesome ty
In the opening at 1:02 it looks like the big pit at Candelaria, NV. I like the old railroad which led to it and rows of picturesque old stone buildings. Each time I revisit I find something I missed before. There is the cemetery. Near it is a small and more modest, even forlorn graveyard. It was probably for Mexicans, Chinese or Indians. The SP NG Railroad club showed me the railroad turntable pit.
The remains of the headframe where most of the rest of the structures have no visible remaining timber, and the presence of carbide tins would suggest that the area was probably reworked for lower grade ore in the 1920s and early 30s. (The Pittman Act incentivized silver mining at this time period). Carbide lamps were very expensive and rarely used by anyone other than VIPs/bosses/supervisors, but in the 20th century became affordable for all underground workers . Miners in the 1860s and 1870s would have been using candles for illumination. Much depression era work was not mapped or recorded, and the older workings would predate modern mapping techniques (Brunton's 1890s system).
There are only TWO channels on Utube I let ads play.
Glys channel and Rob Words “A word on westerns”, who interviews old stars from westerns.
Both have the BEST content!
“Gly”: I appreciate that. RUclips ad revenue is down right now because of the recession. Waaaay down.
🤷♂️ oddly enough I have never had an ad play on an AFP VID! But your right I let ‘em play too on the folk I like 👍
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces : Does that mean people can’t afford to advertise?
Ha ha, Thunder at the end of the Thunder Ridge Vid?! And what a lightning bolt too. Awesome!
Nice lightning bolt at 31:51 :)
That giant cavern will baffle future geologists. :D
At least we get to feel your energy of this mine, gets better and better, good to know you have smarts enough not to get closer to the drop off points, camera shows all we need to see, makes for goose bumps.
Here I sit watching another of Gly's wonderful mine explores. Meanwhile, my sweet lady is out string trimming the edges of the yard. No regrets. I'll be mowing the chestnut grove and chicken pens after lunch. Thanks Gly, another wonderful explore. No regrets!
Hi Gly. Beautiful tour again. A lot of iffy places. Glad you say no to some places. Good to be safe my friend. Stay well. See ya.
Wow just Wow .
What an amazing mine this is Gly thanks for taking us along with you.
The pack rat looks like a Steve to me.
Really looking foward to next weeks episode now
Keep up the good work and keep safe my friend
Wow, I just found your channel. That was so beautiful. Can't wait till next week. I really appreciate you sharing this adventure with us. Stay safe, and looking forward to next week. Thank you again.
Welcome
Hello Gly, I’m a 76 year old female who loves watching your videos! This one was great, and I got such a chuckle with you talking to the pack rat. I look forward to the next video! Thank you!
Mr. M or Randy would be a Good Name - Maybe...LOL... Stay Safe...Stay Dry...
Another great mine explore. Thank you for the great shows. Can't wait to see next weeks explore when you continue on the Thunder Ridge Mine. Your finale today was awesome, and I know you could not see it at the time, but the lightning strike hitting the mountains behind you with the dramatic rainfalls was an EXCELLENT shot !!! Really demonstrates the spectacular scenery of the west (I live near Tombstone, AZ). I really love it out here as I'm sure you do. Keep up the fantastic work.
“Gly”: Thanks! Nope, this wasn’t the finale… stay tuned!
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Sorry Gly, I used the wrong word. "Finale" should probably have been written as "End shot" when you speak to your fans about what you did and what is coming for future clips. I was just commenting on the great scenery behind you with the rainstorms and lightning and mountains. Wonderful last couple of minutes of your August 20 show.
Nice video Gly and a super mine I can't imagine the hard work of the miners in those days. nice shot of the lightening in the back ground also. I can hardly wait for next week.
You know it’s amazing when the video man gets giddy with joy!!!!!!
You hit a home run on this one !!! Thankyou so much for sharing your happiness!!!!
What an unbelievable place! Thank you so much as always Gly. Stay safe. Much love from Canada.
Yes, this was a nice trip! Thanks!
Love the video as always. The various angles and cameras make for truly amazing show each weekend!! Also, your story telling during each episode really brings us into the show, almost like we are right there next to you.
Also, I do love weather and that lighting strike at the end of the video 💕
“Gly”: Thanks Matt!
I've seen Gly giggle like a goof before, but man this mine has just taken it up a hundred notches. I love the excitement!
Thank you Gly, that was fantastic!!!
Glad to see you so happy.
What a beauty these last 2 episodes have been. Your on the money with this one. Top tier episodes can't wait for more of these.
this channel is by far the best exploring-type channel i have ever watched.
Better check under the hood of old Bob to see if Mr Packrat was dining on some wiring 😉👍
“Gly”: Yeah, no kidding.
4:48 That is not just a ballroom, it is more like a Cathedral.
Thanks again sir. That was absolutely fantastic. Awesome job of taking us with you. Be safe.
Wow , amazing what you have found so far Gly.
The effort these old miners went to , real hard work .
See you next week for more awesome adventures.

Appreciate your enthusiasm!
Beautiful and breathtaking
Thunder off in the distance while visiting the Thunder Ridge mines. Very fitting. Thanks for the videos Gly.
This mine is over the top ! Imagine those old timers just mining away, prolly thinking...how big?
Love this video, so packed full with facts and information. Gly did it wonders, with his monologue. Wonderful. By far one of his best videos, music and all. Impactful. Mesmerizing, this is my second viewing, can't get enough of this one. Yet the best of Thunder Ridge will be coming soon, i was surprised in that video as was Gly. Even Phil the Packrat made his debut.
Just love the excitement in your voice! Its like all your birthdays have come at once. ❤😊
Beautiful place Gly, keep up the great work,,
I can’t wait to see next week’s episode! Thanks for taking us along for the ride Gly!
LOL the pack-rat the eyes gave it away I was thinking ELMER - LOL, great day inside and out of the mine, thanks for the share.
This has been the best adventure thus far and thank u for bringing me and my family along with you and can't wait for more 👏👍✌️
Just WOW. So. Much. Stopey. Goodness! Beautiful footage! Thanks so much for taking us along with you. And how cute is it that you have a conversation with a pack rat (that was a very shiny, fat lovely rattie)? And, is anyone else thinking, "Mines of Moria," here? I'm having a Tolkein cross-over moment.
One heck of a ballroom!!
Another awesome Gly Coolness video! Like others, watching AAFP Saturday morning has become our routine. Thanks for all the work on these videos, and not just the exploring. Will you be using the Schnozzolator 5000 in future videos?
“Gly”: Probably not this summer but it’s in storage if ever needed.
Look forward to it, if & when.
Hey, don't fat shame the rat, it's not nice! 😂 Theo has feelings too 😁 Thank you so much for taking us along Gly, I think that this is the best mine I've seen you do yet! Would absolutely love to see you and Frank and Sharon go back soon!
That ballroom made me think of the scene in the 1953 SciFi movie “It Came from Outer Space”. When Richard Carlson as John Putman sneaks into the “ball room” the alien space craft is in undergoing repairs.
Is anyone in the RUclips video audience aware of any contemporary letters or writing by any of the miners or managers? What a tremendous workings!
PS - appreciate your bring this adventure to all of us!
Bloody big holes in this mine Gly !!! Must of been a lot of good ore in there..
The excitement in your voice when you found the big room 🥰🥰 that was AWESOME!!!!
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
That place was amazing. You do such a great job of explaining everything that the miners did in there. Thank you & stay safe!
Good morning brother from Syracuse NY and thank you for a outstanding video of your adventures very nice
You crazy as hell man. Love it, Keep it up 👍🏼
Yeah, you are really like the Bob Ross of exploring mines. I like your voice and excitement being in the mines. It is so very apparent that you are doing what you love to do and your happiness is contagious. I watch this channel as a way to destress. My kids like this channel too. Keep up the good work! I appreciate your hard work on this channel.
I haven't heard this much excitement in your voice in a long time. It is good to see you enjoying yourself. I also wanted to thank you for continuing to say when you are turning around. I get severely motion sick watching some moving cameras, so it is nice to know when to turn away or close my eyes. Thanks for allowing us to join you on your journey.
What a fantastic video Gly! 👏👏👏❤
Looked on this episode for a 2nd. time. Enjoyed it again and marveled at the work those miners accomplished. At your close, out in the open, the stroke of lightening was a "nice touch" for your "close".
Great video. That ballroom was incredible to see. Thanks Gly.
Thanks, Gly, that is a BIG ONE! lol
Thunder Ridge !!!! So awesome it's got it's own cathedral.Just keep safe out there Gly. TTFN.
You are such a joy, Gly .. if you were doing grocery store exploration videos I’d watch em! 😁 ..thanks for sharing.. that place was amazing!!
“Gly”: And around the corner… muffins and cookies!!
“Gly”: And around the corner… muffins and cookies!!
This is an awesome mine, and an awesome video!
That was fun and exciting to watch.
thanx4sharing
Love this guy's videos good footage great shoots
Awwwwwwww yeah! Can't wait to watch this one!! It's crazy how complex this mine is and the sheer amount of material that was removed from the hill. The mined the ever living shit out of this hill. Adits and haulage passes EVERYWHERE. I wonder what the grand total of ore that made it out of all those passes. It makes sense now why they built an entire city for this operation
Wow, that is one big chamber, i can imagine the ore out of that place was taken out. Know wonder they stuck to that mine. Thanks Gly. Looking forward to the follow up with Frank.
Now you know how Bilbo Baggins felt, just don’t wake Smaug! Lol
“Gly”: Haha! That is how it felt. But just wait… it gets better.
Thanks!
Gly don't take this the wrong way but I love you man!
Thanks. Definitely going to watch again later this evening.
A really great video thanks to the amount of work you put into it. Thanks Gly! Be safe!
The mine that keeps on giving. All of us 162K subscribers, are now relishing in your joy. ONYA mate🤠
Those huge ballrooms are always just jaw dropping amazing. Miners have my respect. It's just awesome how much they did back then.
Coffee in hand enjoying your video!
Would be neat to see a 3d map of the workings.
Just thought of it, could you drop the drone into the lower ballroom, next to the shaft of death from last week? These workings are incredible. Thanks for crawling all over and in them for us. Another wonderful start to a Saturday. With all your walking, I need to go take a nap now.
“Gly”: Please stay tuned!
That stope is huge!! Like you said the amount of time to dig that out I could only imagine!!!!
Thanks for sharing 👍😀
Absolutely shocking as to the size of those stopes. I couldn't imagine being a miner back in the late 1800s
Guy, thank you for the adventure and for not giving me a heart attack trying anything risky. Throwing my vote in for Patrick the Pack Rat!!
Awesome footage Gly! Thanks for sharing with us!
Amazing Gly...can't believe you haven't explored it before.
Just another great video! Love the huffing and puffing it'd real!
Great video and an awsome mine. See you next week, take care.
