As a beginner swimmer, fins have helped me a lot. They give me a positive boost and have helped me gain confidence during my swimming. I try to switch between fins, buoy, and no tools during my drills to ensure I'm not addicted to a particular tool. Thanks for your suggestions.
I originally got fins because my best friend is a duck and wanted to wear the same shoes when we went out drinking, but WOW, all kidding aside, I'm a believer now. Everything you said is exactly what I'm feeling in the pool. And no, fins are not cheating, they are a valuable training tool, they help engage your entire body. Great video, thanks.
I LOVE using fins for turtlebacking in YMCA pool. Cuz i have shoulder issues i can not use my arms at all to swim. Turtlebacking with fins made it possible for me to swim without using any arm movement. Also it is the ONLY excercise i can do cuz i can not walk for excercise. I LOVE my fins !
I purchased swim fins as a tool to get fit and as a way to become accustomed to them after watching body boarders on holiday (was stuck in the shore brake). I went for the DMC elite 2 originally and have moved on to the elite max. I absolutely love hitting up the pool now to do kick drills with my fins on and find its a great workout. I have now created a little workout program, based primarily around swimming kaos with a kick board and fins. I usually warm up and cool down by doing laos wothout the fins. Between that iwill do sets on my front and back and a set of tombstones to build strength. I have also started to use a DMC hand board (for body surfing) and do a set where i paddle with one arm and a set where i dive down with the board a couple of times on each lap. Often ill throw a set of breast stroke in to mix things up (no fins). Overall it makes for an excellent workout and has made me enjoy swimming laps. Its also made ne consider getting some coaching to swim freestyle so i could add that in. Overall, they have been an excellent investment and im now recommending them and my workout to other 'non lap swimmers' as a way to keep fit. Ps have you tried DMC fins, i love these but dont have experience of other brands for a fair comparison.
yes your tips are spot on. For backstroke and to get the hang of butterfly dolphin kicking fins are kinda a must. But once you learn the strokes its better to use it as just a tool for drills
As a fairly new swimmer over 60, I appreciate your perspective on fins. I’ve been using Tyr Crossblades for a few years, but I just switched to yellow Zoomers when the heel tore on one fin - what a difference! I didn’t realize how hard I was working with the old fins, but I’m glad I used them because my feet just wouldn’t stay up. Sometimes I just don’t kick much at all as my strokes have improved. The Zoomers are so much lighter, but I believe the Crossblades helped me focus on developing my strokes, then my kicking form. Kicking feels so much easier now with Zoomers, almost like I’m barefooted. I don’t think they’re a crutch, but just a tool to make me comfortable in the pool. I’m just competing with myself!
Wow, that was so much information explained really clearly and quickly. I am 60 years old. I’m just coming back into fitness lap swimming and was not really a great racer back in high school and he really helped me make a decision on getting some fence.
@@EnduranceHour So the edge is heavy and seems harder to push and I am faster. The short capas are lighter but make me work my feet more.. I’m not sure which gives the best toning .🤷🏼♀️
I don’t kick much when I’m not using fins, so I’m not getting the core workout I need. When I have fins on, I kick a lot to enjoy the propulsion they give me.
For me l am very lazy with my kicks, having recently purchase a pair of fins, l now discovered more length in my stroke,I seem to be stream line as well. Now can move into the fast without slowing up most swimmers!
Tried fins for my first time today, I couldn’t get the propulsion going on my front. I was only able to get that kick going on my back. It’s is an incredible workout for your legs.
Nice video! I’m 67 yo started using fins love them but…After 45 min fins (backstroke/Brest stroke) workout the next day…my back froze up under my shoulders:( had to do yoga stretches n it was my glutes that were rocks from fins workout. Sos pls advise. I love swimming and want to lose weight.

I am a adult beginner swimmer and I have to to say I don't like fins. I find it them uncomfortable. I fall all over the place and panic. Maybe I just need to practice more. My instructor always wants me to wear them and I dread them.😭

Great tips - fins can be a great tool for beginner swimmers all the way up to competitive swimmers!

Good for you!!!!
1 hour swimming sesion , 20 minutes with fins always!

You got this!
Great video. Thank you.. I agree with you !!!! Which gives a better leg workout… Capas short fins or Finis Edge?
Both! I think 'better' is relative to each person.

I am looking for short fins which provides only little assistance in keeping my legs up,

Do you recommend Zoomers for light open water [ocean] swimming. I used my dive fins for years, but would love to try the shorter fins.
Yes, absolutely

@@EnduranceHour thanks, I hope to be able to get the hang of it with more practice.

You just did :-)
Which fins do you recommend for beginners? How about arena powerfins pro fins?

Swimming with fins I found can help reduce shoulder strain (rotorcup) during prolonged training.
Thx
Does it increase resistance in order to build lean in the legs and glutes? Thank u.
Depends on HOW you kick. Either way, it's a more challenging workout.
What kind of fins you recommend for beginners? Short or long floating?
Short

Remember, it’s for ankle strength and for making a workout harder.
I only put fins on when I’m in the water. They slip right on easier wet too!
