Also, my insurance and dme provider forced me to use the narrow diameter tubing so it no longer can fit into SoClean without leaking and won't turn on. I have had chronic shortness of breath that started after using the SoClean and I am now convinced it is from the ozone buildup! I just read that these are not FDA approved and there is a warning from the FDA as of 2020 on these! I am switching to the Lumin and hoping my shortness of breath goes away.

the best way to clean way to clean your mask is a little dawn after you use the mask. Rinse it out and then put it on a paper towel to dry. They should be cleaned nightly but it takes 30 seconds. These machines create ozone which is horrible for respiratory patients. The FDA is now investigating these cleaners.
I purchased a SoClean several years ago and while it does an excellent job of cleaning my CPAP equipment, I have found that the construction of the unit to be very cheap. Specifically, the lid is hinged using two incredibly flimsy plastic pins that are molded into the top of the unit. When I accidentally tapped the open lid on one occasion, one of the pins snapped off and as a result the unit would not longer close properly. I was out of warranty so I did an amateur fix by drilling a hole where the pin had been and inserting a piece of steel rod which acts as a replacement pin. Additionally, the lid locking mechanism is similarly very flimsy. It is possible, of course, that these issues have been addressed by SoClean in their more recent models.
Sorry to say this is still a problem and SoClean does not service units that have gone out of warranty, and they do not offer the cover and lid assy as a replacement part. The lid latch broke on mine after 3 years. They did offer to sell me a replacement for $100 plus shipping. A couple of self adhesive 3m plastic picture hangers and a small bungie cord holds the lid closed nicely. Think I will replace the SoClean with a Virtuclean unit and stop running the ozone through the cpap it self, since there is no way to clean that internally with out running ozone through it, but with the cost of the machine and Resmed saying they will void the warranty, I don't see this as a problem.

If your moms SoClean doesn't have a thin little black injection hose, then something is not hooked up correctly. I hope that helps.
Hello. Is there any potential issue with ozone "leaking" or not being sealed using the VirtuClean zipper method? The sleep8 looks like it seals better like a ziploc bag so I'm just wondering if that is potentially an issue for the VirtuClean? Thank you in advance for any guidance!

There shouldn't be any reason to clean the internal parts of the CPAP machine. It is similar to your Air Conditioning unit. Just moving the air that you are already breathing without the CPAP. However you do need to keep the Humidifier Chamber really clean, because the moisture in there can really breed some nasty stuff. If you wanted to sterilize the Internal components of your CPAP anyway. You can use an Ozone Cleaner and connect it directly to the air outlet of the CPAP. You would not want to do this ofter though, because Ozone can cause damage over time to the internal components of the CPAP.
Would you please add a bit more info about the Sleep8 and VirtuClean: How many cleaning cycles can you use each device for before needing to recharge the battery? Thank you.
Each of these units get about 3-4 uses between charges. However, your ambient conditions can affect that. Like being cold, or hot wherever it is being used.

Thanks bud for the review. I'm a recently diagnosed apneic patient and a first time user of a CPAP machine. Yours is my first video. 🙂 PS: Your accent reminds me so much of a buddy of mine from Tennessee. Are you Tennessean? Lol.
As long as you select a unit that does not allow Ozone into the CPAP you should not have any warranty related issues. The Sleep8 and the Vituclean do not get ozone into the CPAP when used correctly.
I ordered a SoClean 2 directly from the company and find I cannot use it. It does discolor my Resmed head gear tubing and also effects the seal. I'm finding hand washing every day works really well. I would love to return this machine...Whenever I call, I'm number 215 or so in the que. I'll keep trying.
I've been looking for cleaners to decide which one is better, they recommended using CPAP cleaners. What expiration time do they have and how effective are they?
Due diligence is STRONGLY recommended. As a health worker all I can say is sorry but, you should absolutely stick with warm soap and water and the occasional peroxide wash.
@@noelgeorgette3150 I had severe running nose 24/7 for 4 months of use and I had to give up. I got no sleep and had dark circles under my eyes. Almost immediately stopping use it went away. I was washing with mild soap and water and alternated with vinegar and water and it didn't work for me. The hose doesn't dry so the water stays in there and ferments I guess.
I haven't either but my research into what's out there is giving me panic attacks. I, for one, would rather put up with soap and water and the occasional peroxide bath. Messy, inconvenient, and SAFE.
Why can you not use the Lumin bullet on the Resmed climate line heated hose? Is the OD of the hose to large to fit the outer magnetic housing or is there some other reason?

We have heard that from a few customers. Overall the vast majority or our Oxone CPAP cleaner users do not find the smell that bad. But everyone is different for sure. Does Sleep 8 work without the bag ? For example, if I wanted to put Sleep8 machine and hose, mask into a sealed rubbermaid bin, couple I put sleep 8 in the bin also and would it work w/o the bag? Also, is it possible to connect hose directly to Sleep8 device (I saw it had a triangular port)? thanks
It does not. In fact it has a safety feature to ensure that it is connected correctly to the appropriate bag. It ensures that the Ozone is filtered properly.
They are all universal for CPAP or BiPAP. The majority of what you are concerned about cleaning are the parts like the Mask, Tubing, and Water Chamber. All of those are universal whether it is a CPAP or Bipap.
I had the Virtuclean 2.0 and the smell of ozone filled the room it also left me coughing. I'm returning it and staying away from ozone cleaners. I've been looking at the Lumin but I have a heated tube for my cpap, can the bullet be used on heated tubing?
I'll bet you make more money each month on the consumables, filters and such than anything else. (Good for you ;) ) Do you know which product is the cheapest to operate over time?
I have the virtuclean 2.0, I just picked it up 2 days ago so I don't have much of a review yet. I was curious if these machines can be used to clean other items, example cell phone ??
When I use the SoClean2 I open the door or window to allow the ozone to dissipate. My only problem is I use an F-20 mask and with a Memory Foam Cushion. The Memory Foam does not hold up with the ozone, sooooI have to use a dry wipe or a UV light to sanitize.
I'm scared period because my DME people said don't use DAWN u would think it's gentle on the ducks would be ok NOOOOOTTTT the soap hydro in it breaks the plastic down one lady said she use Johnson n Johnson
Yeah, the degreasers in dawn prematurely break down the silicone and plastics and cause malfunctions. Baby shampoo smells terrible when it's being forced into one's mouth, throat and nose and I'm at an impass as I cannot find a suitable perfume free option. I have terrible migraines associated with strong smells and no matter how long I rinse this stuff, it hangs onto the perfumes in the recommended soaps. :/
the small sleep 8 with the cleaning bag, my understanding is that they are using ozone to clean during the cycle, is it safe to do if in case any ozone left in the hose of cpap and people breath in during use? just curious?
You should let the unit run through the entire cycle. They are designed to ventilate completely. Some customers also run the CPAP a couple minutes just to be sure.
I just bought a soclean and resmed said the soclean would destroy my resmed machine. Resmed said to stop using the soclean right away and would void my warranty. All the other cleaners are so cumberson.
Besides the yellowing of the mask (which is replaced every 6 months) does anyone have any specific URLs describing why Ozone for "cleaning" my cpap is bad? After the first week or two of using my soclean, i no longer get any residual smell of the ozone? especially if I leave it in the device for the better part of the day?
I was told by my sleep tech all of those machines void the warranty, so if mine breaks, too bad. So soap and water with an occasional peroxide class will do.
Try the Lumin then. Uses UV light, but there's also a smell after, so I suggest having two different masks/tubes alternating so it can air out post zapping LOL
I use auto bi-pap by resmed and got a bad running nose just like a cold but I knew it was the machine and when I stopped it went away right away. I cleaned everything with white vinegar and also with soap sometimes. I rinsed well but think something was wrong with the cleaning. I have got to try it again but resmed says on their website the oxygen damages the machine so afraid to use that. With the ultraviolet they said rinse the hose after use?? Does that mean inside? Do I have to use distilled water to clean it because they said don't use tap water in the water container. I'm so confused.
OK I have a razz med CPAP machine and I’m trying to find a cleaner for the machine the humidifier tank the masks and the holes what is safe to use with the rest med CPAP
I was wondering I’m thinking of getting a clear tubing that way I can just put it in my lumen machine without having to use the bullet anybody tried this as long as it’s clear it should work? I’m looking for anyone that doesn’t believe any kind of smell if anyone knows of one
The lumin should not leave a smell at all. They recommend using the bullet for all tubing including the Clear style. cpapmyway.com/store/lumin-bullet-cpap-cleaner
FDA has not approved ozone cleaners for CPAP machines. I bought an ozone cleaner and the residual smell which you breath in made me cough a lot so I quit using it. The company gave me a 50% refund. Just use soap and water once a week and you will be fine. My recent Phillips unit Dream Machine 2 says to not use an ozone cleaner..
You certainly would not want to breath Ozone in directly. The models discussed here are all supposed to completely filter out all the ozone before they complete the clean cycle.
Sorry about that. We did this video before that was an issue. They all should kill viruses though. Many of these manufacturers do claim to kill the Covid19 virus. One is requesting a letter from FDA validate the machines ability to kill Covid19.
Had to give this a thumbs down, click bait. Your title says "Top 5 CPAP.....". What makes these cleaners the top 5? You never provided any information that relates to these machines that might allow them to be in your "The top 5...." Did you buy these machines with your own money? Have you actually used all of these products? I would think if an honest tuber did a review like this he/she might provide an explanation as to why they are your "Top 5 CPAP...". Is it price, function, form? Which other cleaners did not make the "Top 5 CPAP....."?
I've been told that the use of any of these products will void the warranty on my dream machine with humidifier. I'm having a hell of a time finding a "soap" that doesn't ruin the silicone and most importantly for me, is perfume free. I've been forbidden to use Dawn and was told I could only use Ivory dishwashing liquid or baby shampoo, both of which are highly perfumed and no matter how long I rinse my components they still stink and trigger massive migraines. :/ I'm out of ideas. Hate using this crap.
ResMed has put out a statement about the use of Ozone cleaners. However, some of these Ozone cleaners do not get any ozone into the CPAP at all. Which should not affect the performance or longevity of the CPAP at all.
All I use is clear and unscented dishwashing liquid. I have no problems with silicone mask assembly or hose degradation. I get 8-10 month out of a hose and head gear, often times a year of more.
I purchased the VirtuClean 1.0 and after few months the battery start holding only three cleaning instead of the seven. Called several times their customer service and never were able to have anyone to take care of the warranty. Just be careful with that company

CPAPmyway Not, I did not got it from you, may be that’s why. I called them today again and the nice lady told me can’t find my registration, and have sent her it by email. I am now waiting again.... we will see the outcome....terrible service.
I had the same issue. I finally did get someone and the first one was replaced. Now the replacement stopped working, but it's still under warranty. They are sending me the 2.0. I don't like being without the device, but they did issue an RMA and replaced the first one. I assume they will with the 2nd also, as it's still under warranty.
Bought the So clean, poor instructions, called tech support very helpful, sending out adapter asap. Really should be a notice on box. But.... c'est la vie.
If you check out our channel we have some detailed videos on each. This video is more of an overview. Let me know if you need a link to a specific one.
Do your research. This is an old video but these cleaners were NEVER made or cleared by the FDA to clean CPAP equipment. The FDA is presently investigating all of them. Ozone is horrible for respiratory patients especially those with COPD. If you still want to use them at least clear the tubing and humidifier after cleaning it to make sure you get rid of the ozone. But remember it's still in the air. Look at your CPAP machine paperwork. Some even say cleaners that produce ozone should NOT be used to clean their products. It also can damage parts of the units which was seen by Respironics voluntary recall of the Dreamstation 1.
Only two of the machines has the cpap machine attached. This only cleans the mask and tubing. That to me is the deal breaker. And I do not even have a Phillips I have a ResMed with a heater.

They are both designed to keep it the ozone from leaking. The Sleep8 does do a great job of sealing though.

How much do they cost
They range in cost and fluctuate at times. I have a link to all them below for reference.

Thoughts on using the main Lumin unit for cleaning the tubing? I've seen doing that mentioned in other reviews of it.
The only way to properly clean the tube would be with the Lumin Bullet.
Thank you. Extremely helpful.
How does one clean the inside of the machine itself especially with Covid around these days?
There shouldn't be any reason to clean the internal parts of the CPAP machine. It is similar to your Air Conditioning unit. Just moving the air that you are already breathing without the CPAP. However you do need to keep the Humidifier Chamber really clean, because the moisture in there can really breed some nasty stuff. If you wanted to sterilize the Internal components of your CPAP anyway. You can use an Ozone Cleaner and connect it directly to the air outlet of the CPAP. You would not want to do this ofter though, because Ozone can cause damage over time to the internal components of the CPAP.
Which Ozone cleaner would be recommended for a Resmed Airsense 10?
@@robg8033 I would go with the Sleep8. Link to it below.

I watched the video and It says you don't get any Ozone in the Cpap Machine itself using the sleep 8??
@@robg8033 Correct. It is all done externally from the CPAP.
Pricing would be helpful.
I understand. Pricing changes every now and then so we don't typically mention it in here. You can always find up to date pricing on our CPAP Cleaners page though. I have included a link here for you.

Thanks bud for the review. I'm a recently diagnosed apneic patient and a first time user of a CPAP machine. Yours is my first video. 🙂 PS: Your accent reminds me so much of a buddy of mine from Tennessee. Are you Tennessean? Lol.
HAHA!! 4th generation Floridian actually. Glad you found the video helpful!
Which of these cleaners doesn't void the cpap machine warranty?
As long as you select a unit that does not allow Ozone into the CPAP you should not have any warranty related issues. The Sleep8 and the Vituclean do not get ozone into the CPAP when used correctly.
I was told the same. So which is better Sleep8 or Vituclean
@@linda8628 We do a lot more of the Sleep8 and have had very little issues. But honestly they both work well.
Thank you for this info.
I've been looking for cleaners to decide which one is better, they recommended using CPAP cleaners. What expiration time do they have and how effective are they?
They are very effective in sanitizing. There is not expiration time, but they do have limited warranties if that is what you mean.
Due diligence is STRONGLY recommended. As a health worker all I can say is sorry but, you should absolutely stick with warm soap and water and the occasional peroxide wash.
res med says on their website the ozone cleaners damage the machine and void the warranty. I will go with Lumin. They didn't mention ultra violet.
What do you think about the Sani Bot cpap cleaner?
I am not familiar with that one unfortunately.
I haven't either but my research into what's out there is giving me panic attacks. I, for one, would rather put up with soap and water and the occasional peroxide bath. Messy, inconvenient, and SAFE.
Can you use the Lumin Bullet on the resmed hose? Seems so expensive. Any coupons out there that you know of?
No, don't ever do it. No coupons that I know about.
@@noelgeorgette3150 why isn't it made for hoses, both heated and non heated?
Why can you not use the Lumin bullet on the Resmed climate line heated hose? Is the OD of the hose to large to fit the outer magnetic housing or is there some other reason?
It just wont go all the way through because of the 90 degree angle where the tubing connects to the CPAP.
Does the so clean 2 come with an attachment for heated hose?
It has adapters for pretty much all models of heated hoses. Link below to our SoClean Products for reference. You will see those adapters there.

We have heard that from a few customers. Overall the vast majority or our Oxone CPAP cleaner users do not find the smell that bad. But everyone is different for sure. The UV models should not leave any smell at all. The Lumin and Liviliti are great options.

Can any of these be used on a Bi pap
A mask is a mask and a hose is a hose. I use the BiPap machine and thinking about getting one.
They are all universal for CPAP or BiPAP. The majority of what you are concerned about cleaning are the parts like the Mask, Tubing, and Water Chamber. All of those are universal whether it is a CPAP or Bipap.
How often do you use it. Every day?
You can use it every day for sure. But at least once per week.
I had the Virtuclean 2.0 and the smell of ozone filled the room it also left me coughing. I'm returning it and staying away from ozone cleaners. I've been looking at the Lumin but I have a heated tube for my cpap, can the bullet be used on heated tubing?
Yes it can. You have a little trouble using it on the ResMed Heated Tubing, because it has a bend at the end where it connects to the CPAP.

I have the virtuclean 2.0, I just picked it up 2 days ago so I don't have much of a review yet. I was curious if these machines can be used to clean other items, example cell phone ??
HELL, NO!
When I use the SoClean2 I open the door or window to allow the ozone to dissipate. My only problem is I use an F-20 mask and with a Memory Foam Cushion. The Memory Foam does not hold up with the ozone, sooooI have to use a dry wipe or a UV light to sanitize.
Yeah i just washed mine and the memory foam looks pretty beat up lol. Are you happy using the uv light cleaner? I need one so im looking advise.
I use the unscented and colorless dishwashing liquid. No problems.
Palmolive is what I use. Make sure you don't use the antibacterial as that breaks down the plastic and could affect the silicone seals.
the small sleep 8 with the cleaning bag, my understanding is that they are using ozone to clean during the cycle, is it safe to do if in case any ozone left in the hose of cpap and people breath in during use? just curious?
Good question I thought it was harmful if the person was allergic to Ozone just something I read about
You should let the unit run through the entire cycle. They are designed to ventilate completely. Some customers also run the CPAP a couple minutes just to be sure.

If it is getting discolored then it is definitely time to replace the unit.
All replaceable parts should be changed out on a schedule. Mask, pillows, head gear, water chamber etc....
I was told by my sleep tech all of those machines void the warranty, so if mine breaks, too bad. So soap and water with an occasional peroxide class will do.

Ozone is bad to breathe in so turn it on and blow the air out before using.
Try the Lumin then. Uses UV light, but there's also a smell after, so I suggest having two different masks/tubes alternating so it can air out post zapping LOL
If you put it in immediately in the morning and take it out immediately then your equipment will have the entire day to air out.
On the Soclean What stops the ozone from coming out the cpap's filter and not through the mask?
Does that box create a vacuum?

I was wondering I’m thinking of getting a clear tubing that way I can just put it in my lumen machine without having to use the bullet anybody tried this as long as it’s clear it should work? I’m looking for anyone that doesn’t believe any kind of smell if anyone knows of one
The lumin should not leave a smell at all. They recommend using the bullet for all tubing including the Clear style.

Thank you for the input.
I have read ozone is not safe to breathe and that if you don’t completely air out the tubes and machine before using, you are risking your health.
You certainly would not want to breath Ozone in directly. The models discussed here are all supposed to completely filter out all the ozone before they complete the clean cycle.
No mention of price on different models or efficacy against the covid19 virus. Disappointing.

Thanks for the view and for the feedback.
Not much to go on when all of the reviews are the same; "its good."
I understand. There is a ton of junk out there. We just don't carry them or advertise them.

I thought the title said "Top 5 Crap Cleaners"
HaHa, that could either be toilet paper, toilet bowl cleaner or a bidet!
Useless review unless knowing the different dimension is useful to you.
Thanks for the feedback. We will keep in mind for future videos.
In light of the Philip’s recall, ozone cleaners are now a no-no as it destroys its foam.
Only two of the machines has the cpap machine attached. This only cleans the mask and tubing. That to me is the deal breaker. And I do not even have a Phillips I have a ResMed with a heater.
