The more time I spend with Foerster's music, the more I find that I like and appreciate it. He may not have been the master of memorable melody that Dvorak was, although in this work, his lyricism approaches that lofty goal; and his music may generally be more introspective than his countryman's, but he could also be lighthearted, as is refreshingly evidenced here. It's a very enjoyable opus.
