- In this weeks Retro Revival, we tackle another Tomb Raider, one that is even more difficult to get up and running. WIth this guide, you can play Tomb Raider 2 with full native widescreen support and controller support.

Noticed quite a few new viewers lately on this video and comments bringing up a potential "Trojan" risk. Keep in mind that this video was made at the end of 2017. Windows has received several updates since then - and according to a forum thread I read about this particular topic - one of the updates falsely identifies the Peixoto patch as a Trojan.
That being said, it's possible there are other alternatives at this point to fix the game. When i get a chance, I'll take a look and update this comment with more details.
So... When are you updating this? And are you gonna do this with TR3 and 4?

god damn, this is a lot of setup for what technically by today's standards should come pre-installed on the steam release.
For real, I hate having to do all these 3rd party downloads and setups just to play older games that are on steam.
For 7 bucks for a game out if 1997, yeah, it should.

I tried today steam version, and it is possible to set 1920x1080 from configuration (to run it before game). So you dont need to download any soft to fix aspect ratio.

updated for people who need it the help is now called helpqt its in the folder qt everything else he showed in video is still the same. and type in tr2 hd upscale x2 it's a upscale of textures
which makes it now the best way to have graphics for this

Ugh, peixoto is so ugly.The moment peixoto was even installed it completely broke controller recognition that not even JoytoKey could fix.

Can you help me get mine set up? It's so different and I'm very new to gaming on pc at all. it keeps failing to run the game :(
If screen size is off when starting the game, use f1 or f2 while playing in game to scroll through the resolution sizes. Should save after that.

I Keep getting a error when I go to launch saying that its not a 32 bit or 64 bit and I need help
Close help.exe, open it again, select Tomb Raider 2, select where the game executable is located, and click Open. The game will run, and after that you can create the correct shortcut

love your content, love seeing someone dedicated to make these gems playable in newer computers. wish they would still make games like this
Just a note to anyone it may help - if you experience a loss of audio after following the instructions in the video, what I did was follow the video exactly except when you copy the update files from the Tomb Raider Updater, copy all except the audio folder. Copying over the steam audio folder with the one from the update files actually lost audio for me, so just be alert and try this if you encounter the same error.
Doesnt work anymore. Dont know. Did everything like in the video, with the old and the new version of Peixoto's Patch. :(
It works even with the latest Peixoto version without touching the configs...but it's a bit of a struggle. I had a problem where i couldn't launch the game after doing all the steps in the video. When u first launch the game from the peixoto help menu, it'll ask you what game to link it to. Link it to the TR2 exe file which is in you steamapp folder. Then the game will launch but automatically crash when accessing the TR2 intro menu. So go to the TR2 icon in your steam game library, right click, properties, set launch option, type -setup (don't forget the "-"); launch the game which will open the set up menu..click the 3D hardware thing, and click test (you should see PASS. If not click around until you get a PASS), then close it (the game won't launch) so right clic properties again and delete -setup from the set launch option...that did the trick for me.
@@SpoonFruit I've been trying to get it running for a couple of days now (steam version) with a combo of this video and the info on the patch. I can make the game boot and get the start FMV but when it gets to the menu I have a black screen (with full sound) and can't for the life of me get it to work. If anyone has any pointers it would be much appreciated.

Everytime i try it says "Please indicate the path of the games executable" And if i select the game in the program files it fails and breaks the operation. Any help?
Is it possible to add in the Music and Gold edition content like you did with the 1st game? Also can you make a video for Tomb Raider 3 with the Music and Gold edition content?

Thx for the Video! Helped a lot! Acutualy all the links on vogons where broken (Could also be a server downtime). But when you google Peixoto's Pateches you will find another download source. Also Norton on Windows 10 did NOT see these files as a virus.
Can't get this to run but applied the official patch, updated the exe, applied the tr2345 widescreen patch and it works great. Also using Arsunt's exe with the animated fabric wave menu backgrounds and it's all good so far.
Controllers doesnt work for me..... I am using an xbox one wirelles, the game recognises only the left analogic.
I played this in 97 with just the keyboard. My wrists aren't up for that anymore :D
Hi, excellent guide! Do you know how can I trigger the initial setup again when launching the game?
I think the steps might have changed with the new version of Peixoto's patch. I installed the multipatch but I no longer see the Force native resolution option. Everytime I try to run the game from the injector it crashes right away with a run time error "abnormal program termination". Has anyone else gotten that error and/or know which graphic options I should choose in the Injector? Thank you!
Are you attempting 2K or 4K res? Tomb Raider 2 can't go over 1080p unless you take additional steps.
So I followed every step copied and pasted the patch files into the steam local files of tomb raider 2 booted up the game but there is no difference??…………………. Ok nevermind I opened the file through the help section of the patch. But only the Dpad is working on my xbox one controller??

O', I have just learned how on my Pc Win 7 Vista. (Down arrow + Ctrl + Alt) Ctrl and Alt get the Snow Mobile to LEAP over Ice Cliffs. Good Luck

I did everything and got into the game but when select the Keys, to set up the buttons. Its just a bunch of white blobs. Also there is a mess of letters and numbers in the top left corner. I hope you have no gave up on helping people with this.
This is because I pressed (i) On the keybourd.

Can someone please share the Peixoto's patch for this. The patch has since moved from Vogons to Dr Peixoto's patrreon page and there's néw and old versions, however the old versions download link on one drive is broken.

I did everything but I get a message saying "Tomb.exe is not a valid windows 32 or 64 bit program. WHAT CAN I DO PLEASE? :(
Just downloaded the patch and just cannot get it working. Basically launches the game the same way in which the steam launcher runs it if I try full screen. Just pushes everything over to the right and down. Thus you cannot see the right side of the game or anything along the bottom. Shame, was looking forward to playing this again. Got TR1 running great.
Change your computer's scaling setting to 100%. Not ideal, but it worked for me
could you make a new tutorial peixoto was updated and i couldn't get the game to work, it also dings when i launch it and i cant control anything.
Exact same thing here. Steam version. Game launches and runs, but get a ding (Widows error) and no input from keys/buttons. Checking event logs now. Will report back if I get a fix.
I was able to resolve this using "Tomb Raider 2 - Arsunt" in the Help tool for the Steam version.
There is no 'Help EXE' in the download.
Only issue I have is that cutscenes are silent and I think there is no music. I can hear gun shots, enemy noises and Laura noises just no music or cutscene sounds.
I have information for users which use Kaspersky Anti-virus. I contacted with Kaspersky lab and i send them Peixoto's Patch for check. Today kaspersky lab send me a message that was in a 101% false positive alarm and they fixed it in anti-virus. So, update anti-virus database and after this you can using Peixoto's Patch without disabling anti-virus. I tested it and kaspersky AV now no block this.

when using peixotos patch, the controls are completely broken. Lara will randomly start jumping nonstop or running without me pressing anything. I guess peixoto's patch ain't working with windows 10 anymore. not to mention the autohotkey.dll error.
might as well emulate it on a ps1 emulator cuz this thing is completely broken
Click away and then back into the game, and it fixes that.
i remember there is a fix for those textures wired while you run near a wall - 00:26 for example
I Know its an old video but I might get some help.. so I did everything as you did, press play, and then theres a black screen , my mouse is loading and then just closes, and doesnt open the game..any ideas?
This isn't an option for me. Windows Defender stops the download of Peixoto's patch, claiming it has a trojan in it.
I've run into this same problem. Windows now identifies it as a trojan for some reason.

Help me! Everytime I press the S or back button on my computer the game would crash and say "Runtime Error! Abnormal Program Termination", how do I fix this!
I have to ask. maybe u can help. Whenever I try to start the game through the application it tells me there are missing dll files in my user folder. But the game is installed in under steam. In your video it starts without problems ._.

I am not able to get this to work using this patch. Keep getting peixoto.dll-126 error message. I tried re downloading it used the patch for tr2 files. I made sure av was disabled. Double checked all ms redidistribe programs where installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this is like the fix for TR1. I played the entire game, and were able to refund it because it doesn't recognize my playtime xD
(It isn't refunded, but I guess it will be soon.

recent version of peixoto does not have help.exe
You probably already solved this, but for anyone else reading this and wondering the same, you need to run the peixoto.bat file. It is located one folder level above the help.exe shown in the video (directly in the Peixoto folder; you should only have a folder called program, a readme.txt and the peixoto.bat file there).

Anyone know why that some audio scene triggers cause a second video lag by chance?
Strange. When launching from the help.exe application, hold shift and press start and the -setup menu from steam will appear. I just changed my game to 1280x720 and it worked, then switched back to 1920x1080 and it still works. Still cant see cutscenes though. Hopefully this helps someone. Please ask if anyone has any questions!

My controller won’t work I don’t see it when I scroll within the games controller settings I downloaded the link I did not see the Help.exe so I download the patch somewhere else
I fixed controller I had joytokey running at the same time so I turned off and it worked

Well I completely turned off my virus protection and restarted my computer but its still scanning for viruses and wont let me download the patch..... OOOOOOOF

idk why he used exe, im not gonna risk that. and im not gonna run some random ass exe file. its not that hard to fix the game with a dll, idk why he doesnt do that instead. also dll's are safer.

Ive tested it recently, and it does say this, but the files still legit. Windows just doesnt like the type of command prompt injector being used

Couldn't find a help exe anywhere in that zip you shared. Extremely frustrated.
Don't know what to tell you. I showed you exactly how it's done. If it's not there anymore - then the file itself was changed. This video was released years ago

Theres no "trojans" from this. That link had a false flag on win defender. This has been confirmed by the creator several times.
