I spent a month in Peru and personally, felt very safe the whole time I was there. Of course, still keep an eye on your belongings to be safe. The people of Peru are very friendly to those who don’t speak Spanish, as Wolter said. If you do attempt to speak Spanish, even if you do so poorly, the locals love it!
They really are friendly with foreigners. But trust me between themselves try to discriminate each other. Besides, they( Peruvians) make an effort for those foreigners get a great impression from the city they are. Also, they feel inferior to the white people because they believe they are rich
@@woltersworld It's the same way you light up when a local surprisingly is fluent in english :D you don't expect or demand it but boy is it a nice part of the day
Peru is a magical place with friendly people. It can also be stressful trying to navigate the transportation especially if you don't have working knowledge of Spanish. Be patient and gracious and you'll all have a magical trip!

I want to visit so badly! Saving up right now so I can pay off my college debt but as soon as I have a window of opportunity I'm going! I just would love to experience the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. I've been practicing my Spanish and trying to learn the culture and what is socially acceptable so I can show respect and really have the full experience of 🇵🇪 ❤ love from the U.S.
I do find Peru to be pretty safe, especially outside Lima. The most common way you will get "robbed" is by being charged more for a taxi for being a foreigner and not knowing the typical price. But even so the taxi is a lot cheaper than Switzerland where I paid 50 francs for a 10 minute ride...
AND ALSO DO NOT TIP HERE!!! It's not a custom, we do not tend to do it... Some places do because they have learned that you feel guilty if not, but let me tell you it is ok with most people not to! But, since you are a tourist and we know you are full of money (if not why are you here) that's when we try to take advantange of your ignorance of the customs here and your well manners.... I'm sorry for these buddies around here. Guess that only the losers fall, let's stay informed so nobody has to get scammed again.
I'm very touched by this video. It shows that you really love Peru, and you clearly know your way around it. I'm from Argentina (which is different, as you already know), but I've been to Peru several times for work reasons and I can tell that every advice you give here is gold. Thank you!
I've never heard of altitude sickness before & thank you for the heads up regarding the bathroom scenario. I would love to visit Peru, it's on my bucket list. Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Maybe Peru should demand Spain to pay for it's destruction on Peru's treasures for to return all the gold and silver they stole from the Incas . Just returned from Peru. I like Cusco and the area of the Sacred Valley. Not impressed with Lima and dissappointed by Arrequipa, except for its main square. I felt safe walking at night, especially when seeing all types of police. Did come across several protest marches dealing with the mines in Peru. If tourism is important for Peru, then please fix the roads.
I never had a problem in peru with language. My hotel in cuzco spoke english very well, my hotel in aguas calientes spoke english, so did the restaraunt, inca train, and my hotel in lima spoke good english (although he did look very european). However I did use a private guide in lima (very cheap and please tip) who showed me around the food markets/museums which allowed me to buy certain fruits, food, and souvenirs without being ripped off.
Suggest that any American traveling to Peru stay in a hotel that has a front desk and English speaking staff. Do not book any side trips from the US (Expedia) other than the train and the enterance pass to Machu Pichu. When you are in Cusco, stay in San Blas neighborhood.
We were in Peru 14 years ago and watching this really made me want to return. We used the "luxury" coach from Cusco to Puno and that was fine. We also flew in the small planes over the Nasca lines, I was fine, but my other half (who was in a different plane) was not so well. We had so many wonderful experiences in our short time there (14 nights), I would love to revisit, but there are so many other places we have not visited it might be a while.
I'm lucky enough to live a few miles from a Peruvian restaurant. One of the featured items is the potatoes. Peru is well known for their potatoes. I believe you showed a dish with a yellow sauce. That looked like the aji amarillo (yellow garlic) sauce and it is so delicious.
Leaving on 12/2/19 and staying until 12/14. Traveling solo. A bit nervous, but also excited. Loved the video. PS: One week of my visit is a river boat down the Amazon. So cool.
That is going to be a cool trip. You will have a wonderful time. Peru is spectacular. You have plenty of time to see so much. Big travel hug and have fun!!!

WELCOME TO PERU!! ,. ,. ., Good tips. I'm glad you're happy in my country. ,. Enjoy your stay, you and your beautiful family., We are happy to have you.
Wolters, from a 1 to 10 you get a 9, describing Peru you covered a lot in a concise and precise manner. If I may there is a point that your readers should be informed while December to February is the rainy season in Cuzco, it is the Summer months at the coast (Lima), that explains the 3 Regions Peru has , Coast (desert) Mountains and Jungle. Peru is very fortunate, is you live in Lima in the winter you only have to drive 20 Kms. inland to find summer weather.
Funny, Arequipa was last on my list of places to visit while we in Peru. It turned out to be one of my favorite city's. I'm glad she talked me into it. 👍

Great video!! I would really love to visit Peru but was afraid of getting sick from the food and water... Was really sick in the Dominican Republic once and I mean really sick... months... Went back one time for a wedding and didn't eat anything that wasn't cooked, no ice in drinks and of course only bottled water to drink and brush my teeth and was still sick. No as bad but still for a few weeks... My husband was also.. I find Peru's history so fascinating and the food looks delicious! :)
Peru is actually a world class gastronomy destination . It has many restaurants on the top lists of the best restaurants of the world. So don't be afraid and just enjoy your trip. Regarding the water it's true, is safer to drink bottle water.
you nailed it.i got here nov 15th & leave on nov 30th. i did 2 days in lima with a great tour guide. then i headed to cusco and did a day in rainbow mt & and macchu picchu. the people are unbelievably friendly. dont forget to buy some baby apacha cloths. the synthetic is heavier. real baby apacha is very light.

When visting the archeological sites you can only imagine what was there one, because much was destroyed , stones removed by the Spaniards to build their churches. You see much more in Egypt and in China. The Spaniards destroyed Peru and melted all the gold of the Incas. Very sad.

I’ve been to Peru and another tip is don’t get into any cab just in case. Also the cabs outside the major airports(Lima, etc)are quite aggressive so just be careful.
A way to get passed the ATM fees is to get the Charles Schwab debit card. It reimburses all ATM fees at the end of the month. It also has no foreign transaction fees.
