You do an *excellent* job at simply showing what the commands do and then letting students look into the commands further. Most teachers, especially in college, tend to give far too much exposition when explaining simple concepts. While knowing about GNU is important, you certainly don't need to know where Linux came from to understand and execute a command like "pwd". Thank you for doing a great job with your teaching.

grep -c is an interesting one I didn't know. Personally, I'd just pipe it into wc (the word count program) with the -l flag for line count. Example: " cat ~/.bashrc | grep "alias" | wc -l " but now I can do this instead: " cat ~/.bashrc | grep -c alias "

Video is out of sync with chapters or there are missing chapters.. (2:08:44) Linux Command: Using echo to display messages with escape sequences seem to be the last place it is correct.. you are missing LOTS of stuff in the middle was specifically lookin for uniq. That chapter drops you in the middle of an echo chapter.

If anyone is getting error in 'CAL' command then follow this:-
    1. sudo apt install command-not-found
-> This installs a package which gives you insightful error messages that helps you in understanding what exactly the problem is.

    AWESOME !!!
Really great, in all terms, content, explanation, exemples... THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES for all effort to help others in this way FREE.
I have one question after all 3 hours of this piece of work... in 53:49 there is a [!l] and makes a TREE of folders, right ?
It's an alias that you formated or some trick I'll never see, or basic witchcraft ????
Could elaborate more about it, please ?
I've been searching a way to do this... I remember [tree] from DOS... old days...
I got something in my 'alias book', but I want to know more...
Thanks a lot for all !!!

All i want to know is does the creator say "let's take a look at command line basics" before each command for the whole 3 hours?

In Ubuntu 18.04.4, in the minute 1:46:53 the command $ ls ../kenlm outputs the file License, not the home directory. To ouput the home directory I just used $ ls ../ (being inside the folder baz of course)
However, in order to create the symbolic link, it can be achieved also with $ ln -s "../kenlm/LICENSE baz" as in the minute 1:47:37

    Help?
At 57:00, he explains the "cd" command and gives the following example:
    cd ../double-conversion/./../../lm/./wrappers/../builder/
This command seems so unnecessary to and was wondering if somebody could explain the following:
    1. Why would you need to use "/./"? it basically stays in the directory you already at. Could you not avoid it altogether?
    2. The point of "cd" is to change the working directory, why would anybody need to be be going back and forth like that in one command?

      Isnt it a mechanical keyboard?

    • @tpat90

@@DeeDee-rx3cb Jfyi, you are probably right, but your comment isn't really helpful.
If you are an actual admin for a system, you start to actually listen to keystrokes a lot.
So calling a keyboard mechanical keyboard is like calling a car a petrol car. It's likely to be true, but not really helpful.
And yes there are a bunch of really awesome sounding switches and some horrible sounding key switches (I'm looking at you cherry blue).
I would recommend silent red (cherry) and most brown switches.
If you want to piss of half the room while typing, use blue switches.
