Patrick Childress Sailing hi Rebecca, can’t remember the author but yes you can definitely use it for Patrick’s service. It is a lovely poem and very fitting.
Excellent passage in some quite challenging conditions. Well done to the crew of Brick House! I am still waiting for the part where I will be offended. ;-)
Hi Patrick, yes, experienced sailors won't be offended as they understand there can be three ways of doing something right, and it comes down to personal preferences based on ones own experiences. I had decided not to come back here until Patrick's return. I had decided he was coming back. Just time. I am sitting silent in a room. I am so shocked and so sorry. He never knew me but I felt that I knew him... and I liked him. He fitted me. Though he was my age Patrick reminded me of my dad. He was there with you. No doubt at all. Thank God you got there to be with him and to help him let go his line. We're all still here.
Patrick was on my mind all day yesterday and my first thought this morning. Helpless. Numbness. Silence. Whatever happened. Doesn't matter. Nothing will change it. He looked fantastic in that final video. Also so chivalrous in ensuring Rebecca take credit for keeping them both weather safe. He was genuinely grateful for you looking out for him and yourself Rebecca. All my Kindest thoughts Rebecca. Bill
Well spoken,I hope you followed your father he sounded like my dad and Patrick when he was alive, tough as nails but warm of heart if you knew him.sail safe.
@@harryweyer2174 Hello Harry. From a low social position (but respectable) I did well in my career and became comfortable. I did that from the shoulders he lifted me up onto. So that I could reach further than he could even see. Although I made more money than he could, I could never be a finer or better man than he was. He gave me something to aspire to that was not material. I will aspire, but don't expect to get anywhere near. Patrick probably could though.
Rebecca, I am at a complete loss for words. Although I don’t know either of you personally, I am not only saddened and shocked by his passing, but also heartbroken for you and your loss. Patrick was clearly a wonderful human being. I am so sorry that you have to bear this loss. At the same time I am grateful for having got to know him through your fantastic videos. I wish you all the strength you can muster!!
My condolences Rebecca on your loss, lived in SA 31 years and returned to Europe 3 years ago...many regrets coming 'home'. Not all +50/60 sailors are drunks or freeloaders and I'm sure in time your life will find its compass. Kind regards.
A fitting final sail for you Patrick, you showed us what you're made of, and it was very good stuff. I'm glad that your final days were spent in my home country, you looked so fit & well. Who could have known what was to come .. RIP fine sailor, man, we miss you so 😪 Our thoughts & prayers are with you Rebecca 🙏🏻😞
Very rare for us to use a harness, for the very reasons you mentioned. But essential to be fully aware of the conditions, watch each wave so you know how the boat will respond, keep centre of gravity low, and boom doubly secured so that it cannot sweep you off the deck in an accidental jibe.
Yes...I guess a lot of cruisers do it this way, without a harness most of the time. After 12 years of offshore passages and coastal sailing, I still can’t used to it. I don’t want to lose my captain. If I knew he went over and we didn’t have too much stormy weather, I’m pretty sure I could get him if he was conscious. But if not, I’m not so sure...so he sure just wear a harness more often! -Rebecca
My how he will be missed. Although I built our boat 20 years ago, his patient way of working through things and sharing his thought process was somehow very mentoring. By far the best sailing channel on youtube. Sail on Patrick. I raised a glass to you on a night sail last night.
this will always be one of my favorites. He never professed to be the greatest captain, always asked questions, but realized it was easier to do it his adapted way.. i just lost my brother to cancer in early february, the pain will end when you realize he is still with you. carry the dream..
Ha! Glad you liked our arrival in to Hout Bay! It was such a beautiful landfall...and such nice people there. Glad to have the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Aghullas begins us that’s for sure! Sailing Africa has been a good challenge! -Rebecca
I've only been watching your videos for a few weeks. They were so good and took me away from being trapped in my house. I was sitting here dreaming of being out there and you guys really made me feel like I was somewhere else. I can hardly believe the tears I'm leaking when I barely knew you guys but I feel like something valuable has been lost to us all. I can't even imagine how Rebecca must feel. I'm so sorry.

I am deeply touched, seriously! It's not that I knew you, but I feel connected to you, because you living my dream, which I'm working for, now 3 years. The knowledge and being humble as you come across is to me heartbreaking! You looked strong as a ox and it's a huge shock to me. I wanted share my love to all your friends and loved ones and all the strength to overcome this horrible adventure and get strength out of this! This to me prove all the guys saying, I'm safe on my boat are very wrong, they are not even close as much of a sailor as you are so, stop using that argument to minimize this horrible corona virus! And stay safe. My thoughts are to all Patrick's friends and loved ones! In particular his girlfriend, who he was so proud on. Stay safe, Rebecca!
Thanks so much. He was so strong...and this still happened to him. It terrifies me for every sailor out there now, for every single person. I loved being his wife. I really loved it.
Dear Rebecca, Mrs Kelly and I grieve with you for your loss for it is also the sailing community that will miss Pat's knowledge, wisdom, and kind instruction. Ya'lls vids answered 1000 questions at once and I hope you will keep his memory alive by leaving this channel open. May the God of heaven and earth grant you the strength that only He can and the peace that surpasses understanding.
Rebecca, I have just started viewing your channel. So sorry to hear of your loss. I know it doesn't help but it is important to stay focussed and not to make quick decisions. It would be vital to have company and not be alone all the time. Having seen the vids it is obvious to me the Patrick was a down to earth man and wouldn't want you giving into despair. Les xx
Our hearts are sore and saddened by your loss... my wife and I were devastated by the news... please know the entire cruising community is profoundly affected by Patrick's passing. You're in our thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry for your loss Rebecca, I cried with you. Thank you for the mini course on how to use PredictWind downloads. We have the Iridium go and predictwind but haven’t been successful updating the info. Thanks for showing us how.
Next video will be about exactly that. But not doing it for a while so that I can take my time getting the next one up. Or I may do one on Patrick’s life next and put that up. We will see how fast I can learn the editing, and what else distracts me
Please just make sure you remember to look after yourself Rebecca, stress might be screaming at you that your not hungry but please please remember to eat and make sure you stay well nourished. Much love from England.
Thanks concentrating on that much more now. I forgot to eat completely for 3 days in the beginning. But doing much better at it now. Poor kitty...no food, no water sporadically. I couldn’t do anything. But much better to my little boy now.
Rest in peace, good man! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your wisdom with us all. You have inspired countless of us to appreciate the seas and sailing, and will always be a part of us out there on the ocean. Fair winds on your continued trip throughout the cosmos, captain Childress.
No words... just no words.. Patrick will live forever in these videos. When you are able to come back, do so, but I will understand if this is the last... I have nothing, but if I could I would help you get the boat to where it needs to be... help you move on.. you two gave so much... hugs.. .
Thanks for the kind offer. I am considering sailing on...returning to land just seems like such a loss of everything I worked to achieve. So maybe I will try to find someone at the same point in their life who want to keep sailing slowly.
I've been watching your videos for about a year now, I've never been a sailor but I have a burning desire to learn now as a result of Patrick and you. My he rest in peace.🙏🙏🙏

Appreciate your reminding us all, the dangers COVID still presents. You're brave enough to sail the seas, you found and tasted true loves in life...You only get one life, keep adding to the adventure...filming and editing is easily learned...your fans, have proven their support...they'll allow for a learning curve...Thoroughly screen your crew...and Good Luck. Aloha I ke kai (Love the sea)
Thank you very much. Yeah...feel bad for those that reply. Rough screening process that most wont care for :) But it will happen. I will become a first mate again.
Dear Rebecca, I am so sorry to hear of Patrick’s passing, I have followed his life since his Cruising World articles in his Catalina 27, a real sea man .
My heartfelt condolences to you Rebecca. May the memories of your time together comfort you on the remainder of your personal journey. You will find a way and you will eventually experience a deeper and an enduring love that will stay you. Life does go on. Be blessed and at peace as I'm sure Patrick is.
Sir, you are amazing. I am 54yrs young and a UK Yactmaster Ocean, after over 35 years sailing with a PFD and harness I have never drowned yet. Short handed, you will only fall once and then you will decide whether you made the right choice. Your choice your boat, I only have 2 occasions when you were a life jacket on my boat 1. If you want to.. 2. When I tell you to. Fair winds...
Agreed lets dont skip adds. Patrick and Rebecca will mentor and contribute for generations as we pass on lessons they are kind enough to share. In total agreement that best safety practices rarely include every device we can dream up.
Just read the news about Patrick passing. So sorry to hear it. I've learned so much from these videos, and often imagined that I might bump into you both one day. Sending lots of love to you Rebecca.
Rebecca, you have my sincere sympathy for your loss of Patrick to the terrible Covid-19 disease. I will miss his educational videos on boat maintenance and his sailing tips he was so willing to share with the rest of us.
I don't follow the sailing videos nor do I have a desire to produce one, but your story is important and I'm glad I stumbled upon it. There are so many stories out there and I've been blessed with seeing them while living aboard my sailboat during the years. It's not where you have been or where you are going the next day, but what you are doing right now. I'm going out and listen to the morning come alive as the sun rises in this little town of Deltaville, VA on the Chesapeake Bay. You do the same and you'll be just fine!
Hi Rebecca. I was reading your update on your Web site. The fact that Patrick Is building up his antibodies say he is winning the fight. Great news. There are thousands of us Praying for you Guys. I don't think there is a minute that goes by, that God is not hearing someone, asking Him to heal Patrick. Our Love Thoughts and Prayers are with you guys.

Hi Rebecca. We are praying for Gods hand of mercy and healing for you and Patrick. We love you guys, I saw you guys when we were training at NSRI in Richard's Bay.
Hi Rebecca, I hope that you are recovering well and that Patrick is improving steadily. Hopefully the other sailing channels that have been contacted to help spread the word will come good and help get the message out to many more. I only found out due to Stefan from the paper boat project doing a vlog of your plight. Hope that you and Patrick have a speedy recovery and are reunited soon and get back to normal. Best wishes and fair winds. Alan
Thanks a lot. Paper Boat Project and Sailing Uma, and The O Kelley’s... all have been great at spreading the word. I almost don’t have to think about the financial part of it, if I’m lucky on the bill. It’s nice to concentrate on the positive thinking and how we are gonna survive this storm together. I’ve learned SOO much from the world of sailors around me. Certainly changed forever, in big ways.
Patrick Childress Sailing great to hear Rebecca. Stay positive, safe and strong, Patrick will be home soon, he's a tough old salt and will weather this storm I'm sure.
Rebkka, so sorry for your loss. R.I.P. Patrick and thank you both for all the great videos. We enjoyed and learn much from them. Wishing you fair winds and following seas and praying for you and your journals upon the seas.
Some of the best sailors who love heavy weather sailing in bad weather are the best sailors out here! Maybe it’s a sign. Start studying Predictwind now before you wake up on a sailboat going around the Cape of Storms! Thanks for watching...I really think it’s a sign! -Rebecca
May God Bless you the rest of your days Rebecca and may Patrick reside on the right side of Jesus Christ till you meet again. Until then just keep on keeping on

Thank you Rebecca and your honest words, grief is inevitable, so please keep up the channel and care for Brickhouse, she and you outlive her Captain. A great one.
Dear Rebecca. I am so sorry for your loss. You and Patrick were clearly a great team, on youtube, on the high seas, and in life. I don't know either of you but feel as though I do from your work, which brought your life together to a grateful audience. I wish you strength in bearing your pain, and peace as you eventually build a different new life ahead. Patrick will always be remembered, and thanks to your channel, new generations of mariners will know him and continue to learn from you both. May he be the fair wind that continues to fill your sails, and the bright star that guides your boat through seas ahead. Many people are thinking of you and caring for you right now.

Rebecca I think I am not alone in saying the entire global sailing community is thinking of you at this time and morns the loss of Patrick, a fine sailor and a fine human being.
Look at the intro and weather talk. Who says you’re not a noticeable part of this channel!? We would miss you because you being your own skills and personality to the Brickhouse channel.
Rebecca, please go back and watch yourself in some videos. You speak with confidence and authority about the things you know well. Patrick mentioned the forecast you gave him, and he didn’t second guess you. He must have known that he married a woman of wisdom. You had this boat before you had Patrick. Thus, sailing meant a lot to you, not because it mattered to your spouse. You are a woman who sails. Do what is comfortable for you, but please don’t disappear from us. Talk about how you are doing. Let us surround you. Just talk about anything, but remember that you are a sailing elder in this community. Maybe you should write books about weather. Write about sailing with Patrick when you are ready. You have much to contribute to us. We love you.
My best wishes for Patrick and Rebecca. Patrick will get through this “rough passage” and you will continue your adventure. Greetings from Monterrey, Mexico.
So sad to read on the internet about this legend's unexpected death. May his soul rest in piece. Rebecca hope you are coping ok and just take it one day at a time for now. God bless xxx
Thanks. I talked to a doctor tonight at the top of the Covid19 chain, and he’s almost past the most dangerous part as of today...so I’m thinking positive...he will hopefully live through this. I pray they took good care of his organs, and everything will be OK with brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, etc. Will post more on the site. The support from everyone has been wonderful..I don’t think I would have survived this without you all....honestly. Anyone who has spoken to me has added a bit or more to the overall situation and for that I could not be more thankful!!! Rebecca
Another wonderful video. Missing Patrick as others are but excited to see the Path you choose Rebecca. I watch your Passages and marvel with the courage you two have shown. I have sailed many a scary, stormy, breezy, lightning filled night but always with a few fellow competent crew members. It takes real fortitude to step forward on that sometimes challenging path. Bravo! YOU are more than a Survivor. Be well.
He was indeed a legend -- and will be sorely missed. Thoughts with Rebecca at this difficult time.

RIP Patrick
Really miss you and the great informative videos you shared with us.
18 months yesterday… thank you for continuing to remember him…
Patrick's ideas and wisdom live on in videos. Thank you Patrick and Rebecca for making videos
RIP Patrick you are missed
Yea he is..thank you
A fitting final sail for you Patrick, you showed us what you're made of, and it was very good stuff. I'm glad that your final days were spent in my home country, you looked so fit & well. Who could have known what was to come .. RIP fine sailor, man, we miss you so 😪 Our thoughts & prayers are with you Rebecca 🙏🏻😞
Thanks…what a beautiful comment…
Thank you. Still struggling. But still cruising on Brick House at least!!!
Unbelievable, he will be missed. Deepest condolences and please find strength carrying on.
Thank you. Struggling…but sailing
My heartfelt condolences go out to you Rebecca, I wish you all the strength you may need in facing this loss. Patrick will be missed never forgotten.
Thanks Mike.
this will always be one of my favorites. He never professed to be the greatest captain, always asked questions, but realized it was easier to do it his adapted way.. i just lost my brother to cancer in early february, the pain will end when you realize he is still with you. carry the dream..
I do know he is still with me. But it seems the pain will never end. It was too soon.
The ending was absolutely hysterical!
Ha! Glad you liked our arrival in to Hout Bay! It was such a beautiful landfall...and such nice people there. Glad to have the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Aghullas begins us that’s for sure! Sailing Africa has been a good challenge! -Rebecca
Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences. Very interested in the Raymarine Nav n weather ops. Looking forward to the next one!
I use that crash method of docking too. For some reason, Harbor Masters never invite me back. ;-)
Thanks so much for your sympathy and comment
"there's nothing bad ahead of us". Patrick always navigates through. Right through the middle. He'll do it again.
Wow... yeah...we had no idea it would be this bad ahead of us. Maybe I jinxed us!
God bless you all
@@RVLifeNOW Now now Becca. None of that. You are the best part of Pat's life. I can tell that from him standing there next to you in that last episode, proud as punch and wanting you to take some credit for all your gribby geeky high technology.
He really likes you.
I've gotta sleep now.
Sorry you've pulled such a long watch.

Oh my heart breaks!! You were a hero Patrick to me and the entire sailing community! You both are heroes!! Rebecca my heart breaks for you, I understand your love because we have the same deep love you guys have. We are always here for you! Peace and Love Rebecca. Be well on you journey forward Patrick! Thanks. Still struggling. But still cruising on Brick House at least!!!
Thank you for keeping the videos alive. I appreciate your sharing of such wonderful footage and knowledge. You are both loved!
I may continue it. I may keep sailing. We will see.
Les xx
I will never go in to despair. Life is way too short for that.
We will see how fast I can learn the editing, and what else distracts me
My condolences REBECCA ..RIP PATRICK we love you, God bless
Thank you.
Rebecca, so are so brave and inspirational. We wish you all the very best xx
Thanks so much
Rest in peace, good man! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your wisdom with us all. You have inspired countless of us to appreciate the seas and sailing, and will always be a part of us out there on the ocean. Fair winds on your continued trip throughout the cosmos, captain Childress.
Thank you very much!
Patrick lives on in memory, God Bless
Thanks
you guys are the best... rip patrick
Ah thanks
No words... just no words..

I have enjoyed your videos very much. It is with sadness at your loss. There are no words that consoul one. Only time heals. RIP Patrick.
Thanks. Still wsiting it out. His sster has now died from covid too and its stirring things up a bit for me
Appreciate your reminding us all, the dangers COVID still presents.
I've endured life changing loss, early in life...What worked for me, focus on the positives and built my resolve as I found ways to step above, around or through the naysayers.
Very sad, heart goes out to Rebecca. Fair winds Patrick your memory will last forever on your RUclips channel and will always be in our thoughts
You’ll be ok Rebecca, you really will be. It hurts now but you are strong, resilient, and a sailor! You’re a tough lady, so I have faith you’ll be ok.
Thanks for having faith on me. There is no other choice really, is there?
Dear Rebecca, I am so sorry to hear of Patrick’s passing, I have followed his life since his Cruising World articles in his Catalina 27, a real sea man .
Yes..he sure was…Thank you
Rebecca! We're with you 110%.
Thank you for that!
My heartfelt condolences to you Rebecca. May the memories of your time together comfort you on the remainder of your personal journey. You will find a way and you will eventually experience a deeper and an enduring love that will stay you. Life does go on. Be blessed and at peace as I'm sure Patrick is.
Thank you
Rest In Peace, Patrick. Stay strong and carry on, Rebecca. Looking forward to watching your journey.
Thank you…still sailing…
Sir, you are amazing.
I am 54yrs young and a UK Yactmaster Ocean, after over 35 years sailing with a PFD and harness I have never drowned yet.
Short handed, you will only fall once and then you will decide whether you made the right choice.
Your choice your boat,
I only have 2 occasions when you were a life jacket on my boat
1. If you want to..
2. When I tell you to.
Fair winds...
That’s a good one...you will only fall overboard once. So true. Gonna make sure he gets this comment read!!! -Rebecca
Agreed lets dont skip adds. Patrick and Rebecca will mentor and contribute for generations as we pass on lessons they are kind enough to share. In total agreement that best safety practices rarely include every device we can dream up.
Thank you
You're in my prayers Rebecca. Sorry for your loss. RIP Patrick.
Thank you.
That’s so true. He loved doing it. Thank you
I don't follow the sailing videos nor do I have a desire to produce one, but your story is important and I'm glad I stumbled upon it.
Definitely most important what you are doing right now. Good if it’s sailing :)
Thank you for the lessons in sailing Mr. Childress. You will always be one of my favorite teachers.
He WAS an awesome teacher.
The sofa sailors like me are sending healing thoughts and $$ your way to help.
David....thank you! -Rebecca
I think you are right...his ears must be ringing so loud, day and night in this storm! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
Wiele razy oglądałem Wasz kanał i pomimo że sam jestem żeglarzem w podeszłym wieku lubiłem obserwować Patricka jak radzi sobie na deku.Bardzo będzie mi go brakować.Żegnaj Kapitanie.
Sorry...I can’t translate from this on this tablet...
Hi Rebecca. We are praying for Gods hand of mercy and healing for you and Patrick. We love you guys, I saw you guys when we were training at NSRI in Richard's Bay.
So sorry for your loss Rebecca. I only knew Patrick through these videos, but I miss him already.
Me too.
Me too
Thank you
Rest in peace! Thank you for shared knowlidge! Condolensces to the family!
Thank you.
So sorry Rebecca, He was an incredible man. Thank you both for sharing your story. RIP Captain.
Rebkka, so sorry for your loss. R.I.P. Patrick and thank you both for all the great videos. We enjoyed and learn much from them. Wishing you fair winds and following seas and praying for you and your journals upon the seas.
Thanks so much…
Sending best wishes to you both Rebecca and keep strong Patrick is in good hands at the hospital, speedy recovery, take care.
Great video! I don’t know why I’m watching this. I live about as far away from any ocean that you can get in the continental US.
Some of the best sailors who love heavy weather sailing in bad weather are the best sailors out here! Maybe it’s a sign. Start studying Predictwind now before you wake up on a sailboat going around the Cape of Storms! Thanks for watching...I really think it’s a sign! -Rebecca
That´s Why ;-)
Sending prayers and hugs.. For you both from "SV Content" for a speedy recovery..
Teaching the next generations for many years to come. Farewell and thank you!
Yea…so true..thanks
The is great, a very informative sailing lesson/video. Weather prediction is incredible, it makes sailing very safe IMO
Yes Predictwind for weather has vastly improved sailing safety last few years...thats for sure!
May God Bless you the rest of your days Rebecca and may Patrick reside on the right side of Jesus Christ till you meet again. Until then just keep on keeping on
Thanks
Omg, so sorry. Words can not express the sadness. Love from Canada. We have never met but I have followed you and learned and done so many projects on my live aboard with family and small children thanks to you.

Thank you Rebecca and your honest words, grief is inevitable, so please keep up the channel and care for Brickhouse, she and you outlive her Captain. A great one.
Thanks
Dear Rebecca. I am so sorry for your loss. You and Patrick were clearly a great team, on youtube, on the high seas, and in life. I don't know either of you but feel as though I do from your work, which brought your life together to a grateful audience. I wish you strength in bearing your pain, and peace as you eventually build a different new life ahead. May he be the fair wind that continues to fill your sails, and the bright star that guides your boat through seas ahead. Many people are thinking of you and caring for you right now.
Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. Still figuring out if I want full sails...and if I do, who to help me with that. I don’t want to singlehand for sure
@@RVLifeNOW Of course, very early days, one can't rush a decision like that. At least I hope your sails will be metaphorically full, whatever you choose to do. I hope time will bring you an answer. my godyour vids are so good, from repairs to sailing. My wife and I are building the courage to cross the Pacific with our young boys (5 & 8) we are in Victoria BC, and slowly getting our 1977 54’ ketch prepared. Your inspiring!
Thanks so much for your wonderful compliment. It appears Patrick’s sailing videos aren’t as popular as his how to, sailboat repair videos. I hope we don’t have to fix our old sailboat just to maintain a channel! -Rebecca

You can say that again. He was a fine sailor and an even better human being.
@@RVLifeNOW I'm sorry I wasn't aware Patrick had passed... I'm sorry if my other comments were insensitive God bless him .
Wow, that was gnarly!... Love your videos - I always pick up some really great tips.
Look at the intro and weather talk. Who says you’re not a noticeable part of this channel!? We would miss you because you being your own skills and personality to the Brickhouse channel.
Thanks Lydia...yeah I have my parts.
Fare well, Patrick on your last journey ! my thoughts are with you, Rebecca !
Very sorry for your loss, take it slow, it's a lot to deal with, god bless you
Yep.
My best wishes for Patrick and Rebecca. Patrick will get through this “rough passage” and you will continue your adventure. Greetings from Monterrey, Mexico.
Thanks..yes...he will make it through this vicious evil storm!!!

Another wonderful video. Missing Patrick as others are but excited to see the Path you choose Rebecca.
