Good morning, Luli! We are in similar growing zones, and you gave me a lot of hope right now as I am sitting and listening and taking radish seeds out of their pods. A lot of my tomato seeds did not germinate, so it is good to know that I can still start some and hope to have a decent harvest. I always start a few determinate cherry tomatoes back in February just to extend the season a bit, we refuse to eat the tomatoes from the store and we are getting desperate for a fresh tomato. It is slow going, but I have five marble-sized tomatoes, so it should not be long now. The variety is called "42 Days" and you can save the seed from them. They are in hanging planters in my heated greenhouse. Not much heat, though, only overnight. The greenhouse is small but has two layers of plastic (an inside wall and on the outside, of course), so there is a 4 inch airspace.

Hi Luli! I learned gardening from my grandmother and mother, but my great grandfather was right there in the garden too.
I harden my plants on a table I have off my kitchen on the porch table and it works great.
I do restrain myself from planting early, it’s hard. No sense in planting if they don’t do well though.
I have a mini greenhouse in my living room that I germinate seeds in and I’ve never used a heat mat. My lights I have rigged where I can adjust the height and the lights are on a timer.
I also have a homemade hydroponics setup that works great.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
    Have a blessed day!

Hi and even though I’m in zone 8b in southern uk your tips still remind me about not rushing to get peppers and tomatoes into the green house 😊

I'm waitin another week. Last frost is about May 15th. Really only need to start tomatoes and peppers inside. Most do best direct sown.

Thanks. for this I ALWAYS jump the gun since moving to a totally different climate. I wondered if you know of a "veggie density list"- i.e. if you only have so much room which vegetables are the most nutritious?
