I just wanted to say Thank you to all that have viewed and commented. I have NEVER had a video grow this fast in this short a time. It had 20K Views alone in the last two days. that's never happened before...and i'm still not sure how it's happened now, but I am SUPER glad most people seem to be enjoying it. For those that don't, if you could let me know WHY in a polite manner, I would very honestly like to hear from you as well. it's the only way one can improve. I am still self teaching myself how to do all this animation stuff, and I KNOW I have a long way to go. doing little projects like this help me learn! More coming soon, with a little preview of the NEXT project in a few days.
Nice work! I like that you decided to give them the proper final-look equipment and suits they had in the actual cartoon, rather than the early designs they had in the promo. When I was a kid it really annoyed me that the first set of toys didn't look like the show, because they were based on the promo! Even has a 4 year old I was a pedantic nerd.
I was toying around with the idea, but thought it would be more interesting to do a more show accurate fire house and equipment look. considering the designs where not yet nailed down for this promo :).
They should make episodes with this awesome animation in it.Funny I feel relaxed when I watch this, not afraid Very cool.I can't stop watching this.Thank you for putting this on.
It's definitely rough, but for being made by one person from scratch in only 1.5 months, it's still impressive. Constructive criticism: the main thing I feel was most off is the animations themselves. I'm assuming you hand animated the models, and considering how many animations there are, I can't say I'd have done any better in the time frame, but if I would suggest anything about them, I'd say to study the original animations frame by frame and try to replicate each frame with your models to learn how they move and why. In that regard, I'd also suggest looking for animation tutorials around the Internet to expand on that knowledge of why certain things are animated a particular way. Other than that, minor obvious things like refining the models and such are the only suggestions I could offer; you have the timing, camera angles and proportions locked down basically perfectly - this honestly seems like a pre-vis animatic that a professional animation company would use to pitch their idea and talent to a major movie studio, and I mean that as a high compliment as those animatics often take an entire team two to three months to put together on their more powerful rigs and they often look even more rough, which is a further testament to your talent that you were able to make something that looks this good in half the time and with a fraction of the man and computer power.
believe it or not, that is my thoughts as wel. the timing was actually easy to get down. go frame by frame in video redo, and map out where each action happens and duplicate that in softimage. the shape animation likewise. just rotoscope, and time the animation to the frames. The REALLY hard part, and this may be a limitation of the program also, is to get life like movements. being able to get the proportions right means nothing if they don't move naturally. and this is something I still have yet to master. but i'd like to think i'm making progress.
@@PackingProtons As a self taught artist myself, all I can say to that is keep practicing and always keep looking for tips, tutorials and guides that you can use to improve.
The one problem I have with this is that in the beginning the logo ghost and the woman who screams look taller than the buildings but other than that you did perfect
perspective is occasionally tough to get right. you should see how it looks from a non camera angle. sometimes one object is ten times bigger than it should be just to get it to look right in camera :/......
TurtlePower! I think I might recreate the OG Scooby Doo Where are You intro with the program used when I get a computer or laptop. Don't know how limit will take me bit I'm gonna do it
thank you ;). i'm glad people seem to be enjoying it. Maybe on e day I will update it a little to fix a few things and make a version where they are wearing the tan uniforms and older equipment :).
Very Nice work! Especially for just a fan edit. My only question comes down to why the characters a bit blocky? Program/computer or time limits? And that's just a minor thing I noticed. I think you do wonderful.
I think part of it is how this programs light source interacts with all the different filters the colors can have. trying to get the colors to look right is tough.
I will say, this isn't bad. I just have a few issues with it, in order of when they come: 1. The No Ghost thing (I don't know what you call it lol) when he does his little thing where he boosts to the thing, he just JIGGLES EVERYWHERE WITHOUT A CARE, it's really funny, but it's not meant to happen, though you are "teaching" yourself so I let these slide. 2. 1:58 speaks for itself, they run like they're trying to hide that they made an accident. 3. This one is more in general, but really shows in the chase sequence with Egon and Winston, and they look like they're not running properly for some reason... I don't know why... Anyway, these are just minor issues, they don't ruin the fun I have watching this, love that you put the new designs and I really hope you can improve a lot more sooner or later. :D
thank you :)... yeah, there are a few weird things I'm still trying to work out. Animating in perspective is one of them. I hope I get better faster too :).
Thanks for the reply, you added a lot more detail than the pilot did, and I wonder how you'll turn out in the future, and yeah, 3D stuff is REALLY HARD! But really you captured a lot of the pilot's scenes with a good angle and a good amount of detail, you just make the place feel like one big model and I love it! Easily one of the best things the Ghostbusters fans have made, especially in a month and a half!
Oh yeah, one last thing, when you made these models, did you use reference art to help you? If you didn't, I suggest remodel them with reference, and take CLOSE note, I have never done 3D modelling, so this only what I think you should do... I mean I've seen plenty of people doing it for customs, and I'd love to see what you can do. :p It's just the models look like a lot of sausages, but really it doesn't make it that bad. At least they are ACCURATE in most other ways.
Yep. these are the SECOND versions of these models. the CGI intro had different ones. and the Mantis Video has third ones with slight changes. there is no real on model for these guys, so I had to take the best drawn images I could find and use those angles.
I can't blame you for getting the best picture you could, the characters had a lot of varied designs from one shot to another. But I think you should touch them up with some teeth and tongue because you can really see it in Muarry the Mantis in the bottom right compared to the 3D edition, look at other 3D models and how they do it, I think you could just copy teeth textures from something else, I don't really mind. I still think the character's heads capture their original designs, at least what it felt like until Season 3, then I felt Peter's and Winston's designs changed, at least for the SLIMER! Era, which made them look really ugly, this captures their glory days and I love it, the only time that I think the models look similar to the originals in their body is the credits, as they also look like sausages in the animation (This is not to deter from your modelling skills, I have none this is just a reference point I guess..) But I will say you do better than that "Zim Animations" person, because your intro at least captures more emotion and more life to your animations.
That's how they were in the cartoon; in lore it's explained that the original jumpsuits from the movie were too contaminated with PK energy after fighting Gozer and had to be destroyed with the replacements being different colors (I don't remember if there was a reason for that) but in the real world the change was made so the characters could be more easy to tell apart in wide shots and so the toys could look more vibrant and appealing on store shelves.
@@kidz4p509 Yes, but they changed several things from that promo before the show came out, namely Venkman's face - that version looked more like a young Bill Murray and the studio didn't want any of the characters to resemble their actors to avoid paying royalties to the actors so they changed that with the jumpsuits.
