- Hey friends, this is what my typical day as a small animal vet looks like (minus the phone calls, dispensing meds and consults with humans that was not caught on camera)

Going through my 3rd year in vet school rn and already feeling like I've made the wrong choice, whenever i google about vets its either they're all depressed or make less money, and it concerns me that i might be in the wrong field cuz i jus wanted to make it big u know xD. This vid elevated my anxiety a bit.
Do not grieve the good in what God has chosen. You are doing a great job treating creatures whose moan only God knows
You know, if you ever feel you’ve made the wrong choice by working in a clinical setting, there are many other options for jobs that veterinarians are needed for in todays world, and many pay extremely well! You could go into research, work strictly via telehealth, or focus on one specialty if you’re down for more schooling and training once you find your niche. Many veterinary supply companies and medication manufacturers need vets working in their field! As well. I know sometimes it’s stressful to sit and think about the “what ifs” when it comes to making a career choice, which is definitely a huge deal, but just remind yourself that you went into this field because your passion is to help animals and be around them and work with them all day, and no matter what will happen, you will find a way to find stability and happiness in your passion, even in unconventional ways. I believe in you! ❤
There are absolutely some issues and stressors in the field of vet medicine, but that doesn't mean you're doomed to experience them. Please do practice self-care as best you can (difficult while in school, I know) and make sure to form social circles, both of vet colleagues and of non-vet friends and family. And search until you find the right part of vet medicine to work in, whether that's small or large animal practice, emergency, shelter or wildlife medicine, research and pharmaceuticals, a specialty area, etc. And keep the perspective on the animals, because that's probably what drew you into the field in the first place.
Also, contradicting myself ... if you really feel you're in the wrong field, take some time to reflect and decide whether to keep going, or to cut your losses. Nothing wrong with stepping out of the program if it's not taking you somewhere you want to go. A good question to try asking yourself- will I regret it more if I don't finish the program, or will I regret it more if I do? Be attuned for your immediate and instinctual answer ... it most likely is the true one.
If u have the passion to learn and obtain & collect the information you should be just fine

It actually depends on you! (If u have ur own clinic)... u can keep it 9-5, etc... although if ur hours are for eg. 9-5, it will usually become 6 as u close up

Man wish yall were near me the vet that I scheduled for my bunnies fixing ended up being allergic to rabbits?! Everyone else is like nah we don't do exotics. Fml
I've heard this is a real issue with bunnies - not the allergies, the need to make sure you have a vet lined up who either already has experience with them, or is willing to do the research to learn what they need. Ideally the former, but if you're in an underserviced area, you might have to make do with a resourceful and willing vet, who will listen if you bring them solid info about rabbit care, such as not removing food from them before surgery, etc.
I have already and am being scratched and bitten by my cat 🤣...veterinary is the best option for me

Im not sure if anyone will respond but can you still be a vet if you dont do certain things? Like dealing with tapeworms, or anal gland expression, dissection, surgery?? Id love to help animals but that kind of thing makes me queasy. :/
So as a vet in clinical practice general you’ll be exposed to things like blood, tissue fluids, infected wounds, anal glands etc so getting exposure shadowing clinics can give you an insight to whether the career is right for you!

Practicing veterinary medicine without a license is a criminal offense. This gives veterinarians the ability to extort people over the pain and suffering of their pets. Karma will get these unethical scumbags eventually.
