Sorry everyone. I needed to re-upload this video. Based on analytics RUclips shit the bed as far as notifications and pushing the video out. It's also been re-edited a little to fix some things that were bothering me.
@@PinkAgaricus I got it the first time too; however, I didn't watch it right away and when I came to the channel earlier today I noticed it wasn't there anymore...I guess I know why now!
My mall used to have Auntie Annes and Pretzelmaker (their franchise called it Pretzel Time) I didn't have a preference for either plain pretzel, but at Pretzelmaker you could get ones that were stuffed with cheese and that used to be my favorite. Unfortunately that one closed and now that mall has three Auntie Annes
When I was a kid we had Hot Sam in our mall. It was super popular in the 80s and early 90s. Usually, the only soft pretzels I buy now are the SuperPretzel brand bites filled with cheese at the grocery store.
@@RetailArchaeology I'd imagine if they twist the pretzels there, they'd be combining the ingredients too. Not too many companies ship products that contain water as ingredient just becuase of the weight and it's already available on the premises.
Never had Wetzel pretzels (I’ll have to try it someday), but I swear, Auntie Anne’s salt alone must be crack in disguise considering how addicting that shit is. Always a go-to every time I go to the mall!
When I was younger when ever my family visited the mall we always get an Auntie Annes cinnamon pretzel and an almond crunch pretzels with caramel dipping sauce. Now I get them for myself and my daughter lol.
A teenage boys mall fantasy: "She walked into my life in red stiletto's & legs that never ended. Looked me in the eyes & said, "Buy me a Wetzel's lemonade. Sweetness isn't for me."
Now I'm missing being inside a mall so bad 😥😄The wafting scents from food shops 🤤and the dreamy echoing sounds of the Mall Muzak 🎵🎶 hahaha... pretzels and cheese was always my fav mall snack till StarBucks showed up.
Auntie Ann's may have been my childhood,I really enjoyed there Pretzels! Then I went to a New Jersey Mall and I tried Wetzels Pretzels, and in my opinion Wetzels Pretzels is a lot better than Auntie Anns.
I was at a mall tonight with my partner for dinner and we walked by the wetzel after dinner and it smelled so good but I was just too full. Now I’m sitting here watching this and regretting my life choices for not getting a pretzel somewhere today haha
I live in Miami Beach were there are a million malls but where I live part-time up in Gainesville there is only one indoor mall that was literally at 98% occupancy in the beginning part of 2018. First the giant Macy's closed then 7 months later the Sears closed which was weird at the time because it was a pretty busy Sears. Within one year after that the mall was down to 70% and now it's about 60%. The Auntie Anne's, Subway, mrs. Fields, Panda Express, in like two other food court Staples left just after Sears closed. Rumor has it that General Growth Properties who owns the mall is default and I'm seriously shocked to see how fast it's coming apart. I've seen quite a few malls in my life completely died but their outcome usually took years to happen but I'm really shocked at how quickly the Oaks Mall is dying. Literally more than a couple times in just the past year I've been in conversation with someone has mentioned that they went into Oaks Mall to go into a ( fill in the blank) and it wasn't there. A lot of malls close because because the neighborhood surrounding them started to deteriorate or turn ghetto and those malls usually suffer from Rising crime rates but the Oaks Mall is in a pretty decent area.
There's no Wetzels by me, and Auntie Anne at my mall left and in its place is The Pretzel Place, which isn't as good. I love Auntie Anne's pepperoni pretzels with the marinara dip though. I've also had Philadelphia Pretzel Company and they're good too.
my mall has both stores. aa had two kiosks in addition to their store at one time. i think wetzel's are softer and they cost a little more. aa often have specials on their app and you can get a free pretzel on your birthday.
Interesting video this would be a cool series, comparing similar mall food chains. I always cruise around the food courts, trying to decide what to eat... never really sure if I made the best choice. We have both pretzel places, and we like them both. It could end up being an $$$ series to produce... lol
In Ala Moana shopping center we had 3 pretzel places at one point 2 of the 3 not at the same time. I actually remember that set of stores in the food court (Makai Marketplace) the way they used to be when I was a kid (Splash [women's swimwear store, only surviving actual store], High Performance Kites [bought many Yoyos from there], and Splash Kids [on the other side of HPK]). One of the spaces became a Wetzel's then that closed and it's currently an Auntie Anne's. There also used to be a Pretzelmaker pretzels before that became a Brug Bakery (I think this came from Japan, the bakery, not the pretzel place). Filled pretzels were always my favorite, maybe since that was the only thing I ever ordered from Pretzelmaker. Also I think the food place that lasted the longest in the food court in that set of shops, ironically, is Cinnabon.
I forgot about Pretzelmaker next to Sera’s! Funny though because Auntie Anne’s took the place of Wetzel’s. Now that the guy who owns the Cinnabon franchises here, I doubt Auntie Anne’s is going anywhere.
As I was watching this I could SMELL that mall.. LOL. Auntie Anne's was the last thing I ate there when I was there last time. :) This is one of my favorite malls.
Great video as always. And a cool comparison idea. If there are any malls around town that have two pizza places, can you do a comparison of mall pizza? That would be a really popular video. Sbarro v. Other mall pizza place.
when i was a kid the pretzel at my mall was a Pretzel Maker, loved that place. me and my dad would always grab some pretzel bites with cheese dip from there.
Antelope Valley Mall in Palmdale, CA doesn't have a Auntie Anne's. They do have a Wetzels Pretzel and Pretzelmaker. You should locate a Pretzel Marker next!
So how are these companies able to get away with nearly selling the exact same thing? You would think that one business would sue one over the other right?
OMG, I miss mall pretzels! Sadly, our local mall is in a very sad and dismal state these days. There is hardly anything left in it and the food court is now entirely empty, so there's really nowhere to get them around here anymore. We used to have a Pretzel Time back when our mall was still alive and kicking and they were SO good! I'm one of those weird people who doesn't like dry, hard pretzels out of a bag, but I LOVE the big, soft mall pretzels dripping in butter! And, damn, those are some expensive pretzels!!!
I never had Wetzels but I do love a good pretzel. This video had me wanting one so today we stopped by my favorite Auntie Anne's that's next to the Spiderman ride in Universal island of adventure not in a mall but a cool spot
So I am more of an auntie Anne’s guy, only because that’s pretty much the only pretzel place in the malls near me, on occasion I find a pretzel twister, but that was at a very couple select dead malls. But Hey, that’s just my opinion.
For all the mentions of Pretzel Maker (and Pretzel Time), they were part of the same franchise company as Mrs. Fields Cookies, another thing missing from most cities these days. The last PretzelMaker I had was in Phoenix, it had obviously been sitting around (dried out). Not sure if the brand is still active.
I just had auntie Anne’s for the first time it was really good I like it now when I go back to the mall I am going to get it again the only thing though that I don’t like doing is being at the mall all day though
Very interesting! Until this video I had no idea that AA had so many more locations. All I ever see anymore are Wetzel's. Must be a California thing. That said, I always loved AA so much more. Interesting that you guys found the W pretzel better. Think it's time for me to do a re-test.
A little grease and burned a little makes is better. I think they had Hot Sam at either Eastwood Mall or Century Plaza. I liked the vintage computer graphic explosion.
pretzel time is superior and then they was merged with pretzel maker . the same one has been open at my mall at the bottom of the elevator since the late 80s and it always has a line it's proof

Did I go back in time?? Or was this re-upped?? Lol keep up the great work, gents!
You guys both seem to be having a genuinely good time and that made me smile. : )
When I worked at a pretzel place in the 90's, an original was $1.29. That would be about $2.40 with inflation factored in. These prices are crazy.

3 aunties? How big is that mall? Lol

POV: you're hanging out with some friends eating soft pretzels and debating over which brand is better
I've never heard of Wetzels. But this made me want to stop by Aunt Annie's pretzels when the local mall opens
Do they make the pretzels there, or do they just reheat them?
ALso, what was the price difference like?
I'm not sure if they make the dough fresh on location, but both do twist the pretzels and bake them fresh on location.

Fun fact: auntie Anne’s was created in a small town called Downingtown, PA at a farmers market. I actually live nearby

I lived near D Town for over 20 years (West Chester just a few minutes up RT 100 and 30) and never knew this!
Reminds me of the days when I'd go to Suncoast and get the latest InuYasha volume and a big pretzel. 15+ years ago now, feels like a lifetime ago.
I remember Hot Sam’s Pretzels! They were so good! I like Wetzle’s as well.
Mm. Wetzel's, from what I remember, was goddamned delicious.
