Love my Sunday story told by Chris. 😊
Same here! 😁👍
Awesome Thanks! C🌲🍺🦶👀
Me too!!! ❤😊
Love to hear about the encounters and reaction of people.
It’s the only video I watch the second I find it’s out
WOW! When four soldiers are scared, then you know that something must have been terribly wrong. Great story Chris.
Thanks! C
Yes, soldiers and police officers are very strong and courageous. If they get scare, it's time to panic. That's how I see it.
Idk, my husband was a career army Cavalry officer and pilot that was the biggest baby when we lived in an old 20s house that was haunted. He walked around with a machete (like that would do anything)😂 shaking like a leaf. When it comes to paranormal stuff I don’t think is immune from fear 😂❤
Not like they were kitted out for enemy territory.
Agreed, this is one of those stories you know is real
Hey Chris, I was in Ely Minnesota at Camp Voyager in 1969-70 summers. We canoe through that whole area up there while a camp in the summertime. It was a blast, Charlie Ergman ran the camp. It's a mysteriously beautiful place. Thanks for the video and be safe out there.
I wonder if that camp is still in use?
@@je862 I'm not sure, I remember on Saturday nights the counselors would go into Ely and get us A&W Root beer and when they got back would wake us up to have root beer and talk. One of my fondest memories.
@@Mach11976 'would wake us up to have root beer and talk' gosh, that brings back some memories for me too. I'm a few years younger than you, but nonetheless, the 70's! Thanks for your reply, I like to learn of people's experiences, especially if it's my generation, or close.
@@je862 Can't remember what I went to the kitchen for, but remember every minute of a wonderful time in my life. Thanks, Peace 🕊️
My friends and I were at the BWCA in 2005. We paddled 18 miles into the unknown to Lake Insula and it was the most beautiful camp that we found. The fishing was insane. We were catching walleye back to back. It was the 2nd night and about 2am and we all fell asleep to a pack of wolves howling, i would guess they were pretty close to us, maybe a mile or less. There was 5 of us in a huge tent. And 3 in another tent. I woke up to the sound of giant foot steps and sticks breaking. Everyone else was sleeping. I was on the edge of the tent. I could hear whatever it was getting closer. I could even hear it breathing and it slowly got just to the side of my tent, just on the other side of the plastic. I was trying not to make any noise and still as can be. It pressed up against the tent. I thought that was it for me. Eventually i passed out. Im guessing it was a huge black bear. I will never really know but, when you cant see through the tent, you're other senses kick in and i could tell by the sticks breaking and the breathing and everything that it was atleast 500 pounds. It was terrifying and exiting all in one. The BWCA is the most dark, dense, quiet scary place at night. I hope i told a good story!
Jay
Great story! You were smart to stay quiet. Did you look for tracks? Most likely a black bear.
Back in the ‘80s my BIL, an avid fisherman & hunter, was somewhere up north, probably Leech Lake, on a fishing & camping trip. Like you, middle of the night, he heard a noise - something rustling around right next to his tent. Unlike you, his curiosity got the best of him (or his lack of common sense). He rolled over in his sleeping bag, lifted the bottom edge of his old floor-less canvas tent and was face to face with a bear. They scared the bejeezers out of each other & the bear took off. Lucky him!
Sounds like a moose 🫎
That would have been the end of ⛺️ camping for me. That’s why I only go in a camper. 😊
@@lisathornton8543 it was a Moose I bet bears walk silently
Every Sunday, I wait to watch your videos until I am sitting down for supper. It has become a Sunday ritual for me. Love the stories. Thanks Chris!
Northern MN is our secret gem! BWCA, VOYAGERS, ELY, GUNFLINT TRAIL!
Black Hills SD I prefer but both are incredible
Oh yes, my happy place. We used to go every year accumulating many memories to live over and over.
I've been to a lot of amazing places in this country. Voyagers is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.
@@MichaelPK03 Another from the Black Hills here! We've got our share of unusual sightings.
@glam_goth6662 There is nothing like the call of loons and wolves in the night. My son and I shared a wild howling session one night. We kept that to ourselves to cherish forever. Paddling early in the morning before the dense fog lifted created an eerie auditory world of loons calling merely 2 feet away and neither of us seeing the other. The memories return me to that northern paradise.
A friend and I went on a canoe/fishing trip in the BWCA back in the 80's, and had a bit of a scare making our way out of there.
Well, we were having such a good time we lost track of time, and realized we had to head back to get moving to get the canoe back to the canoe rental on time.
It was dark by then, but we had no choice... so we started making our way back aided by the bright moonlight.
We were about halfway to our destination paddling out in the open having equal distance between both islands on either side of us...
Well... all of a sudden there were big splashes in the water surrounding the canoe- yeah, we freaked out a bit thinking it was Bigfoot throwing big rocks at us from one of the shorelines... until I saw that beaver tail whack the water in front of the canoe lol :)
We went from panic mode to adrenaline charged laughter... one second we thought we were about to die... the next we thought it was the funniest thing ever, the wave of relief that swept over us was palpable and likely one reason we exploded into laughter.
Alls well that ends well... we got the canoe back on time without further incident, and all in all it was a great trip! we caught lots of fish and got the sht scared out of us :) it doesn't get any better than that! lol
Do you still go up there?
@@je862 No, have not set foot in Minnesota for over 30 years.
Not that I wouldn't like to- but it wasn't in the cards for me.
If you ever go- be sure to get one of the waterproof topographical maps- they can be a lifesaver.
I had a good compass, but the rocks must be loaded with something that throws them off, as it was useless.
So the map was all we had to navigate- and another issue related to navigation, is just how flat the place is- nothing above the trees to use as a marker-
bottom line- it is easy to get lost up in them woods if you are not adequately prepared.
@@xaedmon Thanks for your reply! It's nice to hear stories from folks out there.
I live in MN but in the southeastern part.
It's unlikely I'd go to the bwca now as I'm not a young man anymore. However, I'm still in good enough shape to deer and small game hunt the bluffs of southeastern MN.
That's great!🤣 Reminds me of the night I woke terrified because I felt an arm across my body. Turns out my own arm that had fallen asleep. There are scary happnings from non humans that aren't always BF or Dog man, etc. I was backpacking in Yosemite's high country and arrived home with everyone freaking out over me, because right where we'd camped in the open, a bear had pulled someone out of their tent at the next wilderness camp sight over the hill from us.
Hi Chris and everyone I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th

It's one of his earliest videos. Both are great. Very crazy encounter.

I recall a similar story, but if I remember correctly, the others were on the same shoreline with one pursuing more vigorously during the initial encounter and then all fled and paddled to the 'safety' of the island, followed by the hairy guy, apparently a pissed off and world class cold lake swimmer.
Seems like a rerun to me but I enjoyed it anyway!

Hello from a fellow Minnesotan.
-> Northern MN, where I had my spooky experience on an island on a Summer Church Camp Canoe Trip to Canada.. Something very definitely didn't want us on that island that night!! Deliberate breaking of branches around our tent, & later, a shaking tree scared some other girls that went off to the makeshift latrine in the trees!! We were all on edge until the Staff guy & all us girls left the next morning.. I was truly glad we were leaving, & the next night we stayed on an isthmus, & I had no qualms in staying there.. Thankfully, my trip there was without further incidences, & I'm glad I already knew about them, per my teacher & Army Dad!! MN is definitely Sasquatch territory!! Divine Angelic Safeguarding, & Many Abundant, Bountiful Blessings, ALL!! 🐴😻🙇🏻♀️🙏🏼🕊️👼🏻✨🌛🪐🌌🌟
Thanks Scott! 🌲
@rosemarythyme6351 Hey hello there fellow Minnesotan!
Hello, my fellow Minnesotans!!! Boundary waters is a beautiful part of Minnesota, but if there any big foot type creatures in Minnesota BW would certainly be the place they would be, very protected area, not as many humans to bother them up there. I'm sure Canada has many up there. 💜💜💜
Yes he told the first one before but hey he put in his vacation! Let’s give him a weekend off. Still some extra stories. You rock Chris
Happy 4th Chris!
Camped out on Ramshead lake in may of 1977. No sasquach, but the wood ticks made up for it. Fishing was awesome.
Excellent story and stellar delivery Chris. I thank you for providing a safe place where we can share our experiences without judgement. One day soon ill write my experience up and send it your way. Stay safe and stay cool out there.
At least you were drinking a different beer as you told this story a second time and you did add some different details to the story which was nice. Thanks for the video.

You are a very good storyteller, sucked me right in. Of course I lived in MN for over 30 years until we left to be cheese heads (WI) in 2018 😁 I've never been to BWCA but I'm intrigued by the missing person stories. A hunter with last name Peltier went missing about 50 miles north of where I live now and it baffles me to this day, heart wrenching story. Any time we drive to Superior and pass the Nemadji state forest I think about him and his loved ones.
Who cares if you've told it before...I love that story!!! He was definitely being led deeper into the woods
I have heard “tree knocks” around 2008. The sound was memorable, very strong sounds. No way a human could have made the tree knocks. Northern Cal. About 20 miles as the crow flies from Truckee.
Always scarier when soldiers are afraid. Glad all got out of there okay! Thank you Chris, as always great story telling! Keep hiking 🚶♂️

i don’t think Chris has ever missed a Sunday upload thank you sir
I vividly remember the original video of this story. It was one of the first one that I watched of your channel Chris. I feel like you went more in depth this time. I am so glad I found your uniquely and special channel. 🤩
Ive been there many times since i was about 12 years old in the early 80's. Some of the weirdest things happened when i was there. Bears the first time, it was like they watched us as soon as we werent visible they came. Even when we were in the tents. Moved to a small island and it didnt help, they came back.
I was up there when a huge storm took down countless trees, we couldnt take cover in the tent from the storm because trees and branches were coming down everywhere and you needed to keep your head on a swivel so to speak. Maybe 5 or 6 years after that forest fires started and we were told to evacuate by a forest service agent.
8 of us were up there one trip for a week, and we seem to be the only 8 in the world that didnt see the low speed chase of an infamous white ford bronco made famous by oj Simpson. We were all viking or packer fans and the first thing we saw walking into grand maris dairy queen was a newspaper with oj's mugshot..lol.
So if i ever need some excitement in my life again, ill plan a trip to BWCA.
It really is a fantastic place
Hi Chris, I know you have told this story before but you tell it so well that it’s even better the second time 😊👍
I love this story!
Cheers Chris. You made me laugh when you sat down out of nowhere 😅 stay safe Bro
Thanks, you too!
Wowzers!! Thats a creepy story Base Camp Chris! Good stuff! 😄👍🏻
Minnesota is beautiful
Good story Chris, good Sunday to ya from Remer, Mn where they just had their BF festival. We had rain and hail later though! 😂😅
BS Festival in Remer? I always liked the Aching Reamer area.
Another fabulous story Chris 🤩
Two week boy scout canoe trip in 1965, it wasn't the BWCA just yet. Went in as far as Lake Insula. Saw moose, bear and mink, never even heard a wolf howl. In those 13 days it rained about 7 or 8 of those days. Went back the same route twice 1992 & 1993, stayed at the juncture of lakes 3 & 4. Last time was 2011.
The island with the berries on lake 3 is immaculate. I haven’t been in twenty years. Remembering nights when my eyes adjusted to the dark and the water was smooth as glass. You feel like you could see across any lake. When fog rolls in it feels like something out of a fairy tail. I always imagined if a mythical creature lived up there it would be a jackalope
🇨🇦🍁we canoe camped around Algonquin for a few years. Scared of bears. Glad we didn’t know about Sasquatch 🫣. Great story as always 😊
I lived in Ely for two years and canoed a ton in the Boundary Waters those two years. Grew up in MN in the Duluth area so this was a normal thing to go up and do even when I didn't live up there. Portaging can be super tough and exhausting and if you don't take a few maps and know where you are, what you are doing, etc, it can get scary. Especially when you are trying to leave and get out after a beautiful weekend of camping. After my experiences there I'd be more afraid of actual people. Met some amazing people and had bad experiences with some not so amazing people. There are people who live in those woods and it's not talked about much so this wasn't some mystical creature. It was a person, I'd bet money on that. We got our stuff gone through and taken a few times and the only thing that did that was a human who was a jackass. I have stories from my life up there that seem weird like this but if you go in enough, you know exactly what animals are there and what strange people are there. LOL
I truly believe that. Most people are good but I've encountered some very unsavory ones. I feel blessed to be alive.
I love Ely! Like people are just living in the wilderness?
Thanks, Chris, for saying the date of the incident. I think it's important to a lot of listeners.
Chris.
Your best story told yet.
Very very good.
Thanks.
You redefine Sundays.
Since I've been binging your videos, I know I've heard this one before on your videos. Maybe from about 2 years ago? No matter, still a great story!!

Basecamp chris is so nice id feel safe hanging out with him in a netherworld such as the one in blair witch project. The scary stories scare me when Chis tells them, but yet i feel safe and cozy cause his light keeps the darkness away. Basecamp Chris is what masculinity should aspire to be like. Strength through kindness and youre always safe if one is a good nice caring person. Total bromance love you Chris thank you! Why arent there men like Chris in the house and senate or for president BCC 2024!!!
Hey Chris, we hope you and your family had an eventful 4th! Yeah, on World Bigfoot radio (we believe Duke; he has a video of an actual Sasquatch clubbing a tree with a huge tree limb.) As always, thanks for the Sunday matinee!!! Take care & God bless!
I hate to wish this on you Chris but I hope one day your out making us a new video and a big foot accidentally walks behind you while your recording and give us all the proof we need 😂 love these videos . Keep them coming please sir
Or a real tree knock, not sound effects.
One of my extraordinary experiences in the BWCA was the time a pack of wolverines ran through the forest finally leaping off a small cliff into the lake. They quickly swam away. That was my only wolverine sighting in my life. Immersion into that magical land while paddling and camping always brought unexpected delights. Yes, there are many mysterious noises, but I never feared them. I recall Lake Agnes did have a bear problem at one time. We camped there one night, no bear, but orchids created a memory that makes me smile today.
Sounds magical. You saw something most people never experience.
Last time I paddled Gabbro, state game warden asked me to bring a rifle and shoot a bear who was taking packs on a portage. Wife and I pack light and do once across portages. Left my wife and packs at the far side of the portage. Never saw the bear, but saw an amazing number of packs up in the woods - torn apart. People would portage canoe and a pack, come back, find packs missing, return to canoe - and find that pack missing. Game Warden told me where the key for their nearby cabin was if I wanted to go up and set up a blind and get the bear. Grinned and asked him, "How much pay to do your job"? He said, "Don't you like bear meat"? Me, "No."
Love your channel, Chris! Always been interested in the weird and wild since I was little and my late father got me into things like the beast of Bodmin Moore, Bigfoot and UFOs. I used to listen to "Hound of The Baskervilles" on audiotape at night as a young child! It would be really cool if you'd cover some UK cases or missing person/strange disappearance stories. ❤ from Worcestershire UK 🇬🇧
I think that would be really interesting. I'm American, but I recognize bodmin from Doc Martin. I have subs to Britbox and Acorn.
The setting you chose today is so beautiful. Weren't you tempted to take off your shoes and go wading in that lovely water? And I'd also be looking for pretty rocks.
Been going to BWCA since 97 with some friends from High School, we’ve had a lot of great memories, and have caught some true trophy fish. We’ve had experience with bears, wolves, and one night what can only be described as whooping sound for about 30 minutes, it was probably a mile or so away, but we still wondered what it was. We started talking our kids with us about 5 years ago, it’s always a great time.
sandhill cranes make some crazy sounds, and the drumming of a ruffled grouse sounds pretty odd too if you're not used to hearing it.
@@jameswarner7435 I have grouse on my farm, and I’ve never seen any cranes on that lake. It did have a similar sound like a broken goose sound, but not really, and I’ve never seen any geese on that lake just ducks and loons.

Never caught you post only 47 seconds after you put it out. So I jumped on it! Roy was too brazen! This story is familiar. Did you retell it. Roy was been lured out there.
Really interesting story about North American Native tribes experiencing canoe thefts from both sides of our now border. The boy's scouts and outfitter had a pretty bad scare. What a sneaky thing to do, take one of the only means of transportation between islands! Bigfoot is clever and mischievous. Thank you Chris for sharing this account of the four buddies canoe trip.
I also remember hearing this. especially the one who went after it, got lost and thought he was being lured into a trap.
On reflection I think McBallen recounted the story a while back.

Then native american were accused of stealing the canoes.
In this story wendigo or bigfoot said to have harassed the soldiers.
Could have just been a human, a serial killer.
