Eddie, thank you. Great and very informative for me. I literally just bought my first boat (31' Chaparral Signature) and prefer to do things myself. I removed the manifolds and riser/elbow with the outboards today. Watching again prior to ensure I know what to do, thanks again.
i know Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost the account password. I would love any assistance you can give me
@Quinton Ayaan i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks eddie for video. I can’t get my Bravo 3 outdrive out at all. Its like stuck in the engine. Even with several 100 lbs of force from a scissors jack The shaft just seems stuck in the engine coupler. Any ideas ? I am being told that the the shaft will have to be cut off and the engine than will have to be removed to install a new coupler for the Outdrive. Its a Formula 40 SS with Yanmar 315hp diesels. Any thoughts would be appreciated
Oh Man. Yeah you would have to cut the shaft. But first try this, there are two grease fittings on the coupler. take the grease fittings out. and spray some WD-40 or CRC into it and soak the drive shaft. Good luck buddy 🤙⚓️
Love the videos - thank you. Eddie, have you ever had an outdrive STUCK IN FORWARD? my Chaparral has a Bravo 3, it starts (in gear) and runs fine. It is STUCK in forward though!! - do you think it's a cable issue, quicksilver 3000 box issue, or maybe the gears in the outdrive? again, it Starts so there nothing "telling" the motor that the outdrive is IN GEAR.. very odd? Any help is greatly appreciated. Mike
Mike, don't know if you have solved you problem since your message is 2 months old, but mine was the same problem. gear got stuck in forward (bravo III) and It cost me $3K to take it to a mechanic to reshimmed it and to do all that needed to do. basically, I while driving the boat in high rpm I shifted the gear from forward to neautral and back to forward and then it got stuck in forward.
The paint on the trim cylinders comes off really fast. Mine, as well as the whole drive, looks almost exactly like the one they're working on. My boat never sees salt water - do I need to repaint the pistons or the whole drive? What's your opinion on that?
If the universe shaft is stuck in the gimbal barren. Usually you can get a pry-bar in between the I’ll drive and the gimbal helmet and pry it out. Just wanna make sure you have a bravo 3 and have the shifter neutral. because if it’s an alpha, one, you need to have your shifter in reverse. that could be keeping it from coming off. Hope that helps.🤙⚓️
I find getting the shifter disconnected easy, but getting it back together when re-installing the drive was much more difficult. Not as easy as in the video I feel. To make it easier I put the shift lever in forward and put the drive in reverse. This causes the cable from the Mercontrol to be out as far as it will go and it causes the shift mechanism in the drive to out as far as it will go. This allows you to see the two connect again properly while the drive is still out enough to you see it.
The drive will still be over an inch off the housing and you can clearly see the shift cable click back into the shift mechanism in the drive. Great vide tho, very helpful.
The only reason why I do that is, the fluid is good in the reservoir and gear oil, fluids, a lot of money. if you’d like to drain it, you can do that. Also, there is a check valve. So when you take it off. the fluid will not come all the way out.
The best engine tutorials I've seen on RUclips. Straight to the point - no crap!!. Great work guys.

Great help. But you forgot to tell us to unplug the speedometer hose fitting from the drive before pulling the drive all the way out.

HELP Need... right wording to bring up video on youtube, was not able to find any video of the shaft being stuck inside the gimbal bearing

Would a leg like this take a Cummins 6bt diesel running 190 hp @ 2500 rpm ?
Great video, as always Eddie.
Erlinn Engelver thank you

Why not empty the reservoir instead of clamping it? You can lift it out and empty it pretty easily.
The only reason why I do that is, the fluid is good in the reservoir and gear oil, fluids, a lot of money. if you’d like to drain it, you can do that. Also, there is a check valve. So when you take it off. the fluid will not come all the way out.
I have a 2004 bravo 3 and can't find the gimbal bearing grease fittings
Thanks Eddie you saved the day
Thank you, this helped a lot!
U put it in reverse to take the drive off
Thank you for the advice yes if it was an alpha, I would put it in reverse to take off the drive, but it is a bravo 3 so do not put it in reverse. 🤙⚓️
Ola amigo tengo un problema que no sube la pata gracias por alludar 👍
i like the help can you show me how to get to a impeller 454 byliner ciera can not seehow to get to it maybe take wall down in aft cabin
the ball valve will stop the oil from coming out
Where can I buy this cable?
What cable are you looking for?
@@OnboardWithEddie mercury cruiser bravo third,I think it's the high speed cable, or shift cable 🤔
IT LOOKS LIKE THE OUT DRIVES NEED TO BE POLISHED UP AND PAINTED IF NEED BE, AND REPLACE LOWER UNIT GEAR OIL.
