  • After putting my Cayman Haswing 55lb trust 12v trolling motor through the ringer and it's still running like a champ. But I've finally decided to upgrade to the new version. The new Cayman Haswing has spotlock and GPS features and can be operated with your cell phone via bluetooth. I'm pretty excited to test out this new model and see how it performs!

I bought my Cayman two years ago after seeing your first video on yours. I have beat the crap out of it. Left it bad weather and hot sun for weeks at at a time. It still plugs in and goes just like the day I bought it.

Great review, and Kris I hope you don't mind me leaving my review in the comments on you video. Not trying to hijack yours, just trying to give your followers who are waiting for you to give a 1 year review on the new Cayman B GPS model another opinion coming from someone with a completely different fishing style as yours. Helping them make a informed decision before spending their hard earn money. Feel free to remove my review if don't want it on here, with no hard feeling from me as I know this is your channel and content.I'll try to keep it short as possible and Kris if you would like a more in-depth review contact me and I'll send it to you and you can post it where you'd like.
I have had my Cayman B GPS on my boat now for about a year now. And I have had zero issues with it. And I have put probably close to 3 years of use on it (what a normal weekend angler would ) in this one year. As I fished 23 bass tournaments (Feb-Nov) this year here in Oklahoma, Then you add all the other days (3-6 days a week a few hours a day after work, to full days on days I'm off work) and I would guess that I've put about 3 years of normal use on a trolling motor in a year. There are a few minor things that I would like to see Haswing change, but none are a deal breaker to me if I was looking to buy a new motor. I wish there was a option in the Helmsman App to turn off the beeps that you hear every time you give the motor a steering/speed command with the remotes. (Anyone want to guess how many beeps you hear while fishing a bass tournament for 8 hours..lol). The 2 other things would be to attach a short deployment strap to the shaft just under the motor head that you can grab while you step on the motor release to retrieve the motor. Having to reach down to grab the motor head when fishing in high wind and rough water is a good way to go for a swim. I put a $5 velcro strap on mine to stop from going swimming.
The first 2 are very minor dislikes, my 1 othe dislike/wish they would change is the Spot Loc/Anchor Loc system. I wish they would put a switch on the foot controller that would engage/disengage the Spot-Loc instead on having to use the Helmsman App to use Spot-Loc. Cause you have to use the Hand remote to use the Helmsman App seeing how you have to pair the remote to the motor and then pair your phone to the remote. And you can't pair your phone to foot controller. Again this is not a big deal for me, as I'm usually on the move covering as much water as possible looking for any active fish. But there are times that I want to pound a spot and as long as it's over 10 ft of water depth it would be nice to step on the switch to engage Spot-Loc. Using it in anything shallower than 8 foot using Spot-Loc will "blow-out" the spot . Especially on windy days. So again it's not a big deal for me due to my style of fishing, but it may be to others with different fishing style.
So if I was to give my heavily used Haswing Cayman B Gps 12v 55# trolling motor a 1 year star rating, I would give it a 9.5 out of 10 stars.. The 1/2 star downgrade would be for the lack of a Spot-Loc switch on the foot controller.

mine also came with the quick disconnect bracket mounting.. so all you have is a puck on your boat.. that was a surprise.. 1081.00 shipped after tax on amazon. had it out yesterday .. still have to get used to it.. the syncing and the private wireless network to join your phone to the motor.. takes a little getting used to.. but the spotlock/anchor worked great.. so far its an amazing value.

I have a name for people who claim that "you get what you pay for." I call them fools. Paying more does not assure better quality and performance any more than buying something that is less expensive assures better value. I'll spare you the stories about the times I paid high prices for garbage and just say that I really hate it when that happens. Nobody ever apologized to me after charging me a high price and delivering less than was promised so I don't apologize for looking for good value. I am fortunate in that I can afford to get most of the things I want (I don't want too much.) I do my research to try and find stuff with good, reliable reviews and is the best value for the money. As a matter of fact, that's how I ended up at this channel. Thanks for making this video Kris!

I was getting ready to order this unit but after reading several reviews across different platforms it seems the remote control is giving people a lot of problems.
I contacted the manufacturer and they told me the remote is not covered under the warranty at all.
That was a deal breaker for me so I spent the extra couple hundred and got the Minn Kota...
I know many have not had problems but the fact they don't offer a warranty says a lot.

Had mine 4 years and the remote can be a bit finnicky at times but in still using the original, worst case scenario you buy a new remote your still way ahead money wise. Are they as good an ulterra, probably not. Are they a solid option that can save you hundreds, absolutely. In some ways I think they are better
