Cvts are very good at climbing n going down hills..i drove one up a mountain and i didn't have to rev past 3k rpm during the climb..the low end power is great(linear torque)..unlike an auto trans where you have to rev so high to get power(due to constant upshift/downshift of the torque conv)...and it is also true when going downhill, less braking is required ...cvts r very effective in these aspects.

I don't think this is an accurate comparison between AT and CVT. The AT car in the video was just demonstrating poor pedal control, not how good drivers would drive their AT cars. (i.e. who would change gears when passing another vehicle at high speed? Why would you have to brake before entering a bend when you are at the right gear?) CVT also makes the car sounds like it has slipping clutch. Toyota has just made the biggest mistake with their 2013 Corollas - switching to CVT.
Actually small 4 cylinder cars are a lot more fun in stick than auto or cvt because you can get the most out of the car and it can actually sometimes be more fun than a proper sports car because you can have fun in the confines of the speed limit
***** Yeah, its usually just a vacuum that holds the throttle at a certain position. Now on more modern cars its done through the on board computer telling the fuel injection what to do. It's throttle over transmission.
integra_ls_express actually the Nissan accord sedan base model for like 12k has a 5 speed manual with no cruise control. Kinda actually considering one in case of heavy weather I don't wanna deal with on the motorcycle.
I can tell you that my Sentra has great downhill braking with the CVT and the overdrive set to OFF. I don't even need to use the brake when driving down a mountian road; in fact, I sometimes have to use the accelerator to speed up the car on a downgrade with the O/D set to OFF.
CVT is a great technological breakthrough. Yes, if you are used to racing and jack-rabbit starting and stopping, you don't want it. I have a 2013 Nissan Altima with a CVT in it and it is flat out amazing. Although it only has a 4 cylinder engine it runs like a top and has plenty of acceleration. @oscarfish48 It doesn't need to be replaced. It's a steel belt, more in tune with a timing chain than anything. And yes, in general, they are longer-lasting than most automatics. Not quite sure about standards, though, as unless driven too harshly, a lot of them are bulletproof.
People are always concern about acceleration and about speed. Something they don't take in consideration is that when an auto movible Company like Nissan or Toyota decide to instal a CVT transmission in their vehicles is for a reason. Nissan and Toyota are top quality economy cars in USA. I personally like the feel of the CVT in my 2014 corolla. It feels smoother and i don't like the feel for the gear changing in a 4-speed automatic. The best part is the increase of fuel economy I noticed on the CTV. Hey is al about going from point a to point b.
They decided to use CVTs because they are cheaper to manufacture and they claim they reduce the emissions... Now i don't know if that reduces emissions in manufacturing or driving... If its a corporation, they do it for 2 reasons... 1 its cheaper or 2 because some government guideline says they have to. CVT's main point of operation is a V-Belt. Slightly modified of course...
The CVT transmission is not new technology. Its been used on scooters, mopeds, and go karts for years. They recently started using them on new cars. The 8 speed transmission is another attempt and comfort and efficiency. The debate here is whether CVT's are reliable. makinbac0n I personlly think they are the transmissions of the devil. Having the RPM sit at x RPM not overly efficient mainly because they sit at the peak HP rating and Horsepower is not what makes cars move. it is torque. Torque is found lower down on the RPM band.
I've driven one of those before without the knowledge of knowing about CVTs and it was strange couldn't put my finger on why the transmission was staying at a straight rpm upon long acceleration but it was amazing
Damn, after watching this I have learned that CVT's are the best transmission in the world, they accelerate faster and require no braking, time to contact all race teams and tell them what they are doing wrong.
+Teddy Monroe Actually you really dont have to break downhill with a CVT..... you lift of the accelerator and the motor breaks. The CVT "downshifts" so the revs still stay at the top range for e.g. 6000 rpm. The slower you get the more it changes the "gear" ratio to keep up the motor breaking. But still the video sucked :D
just rented a altima with cvt. don't feel like the acceleration as good as the AT one's. I felt CVT is noisy and slow. this video shows the AT shifting likes manual.
Not all CVT's are bad, Nissan and Jatco (their transmission company maker) is though. Toyota makes their transmissions with Aisin for their Prius' and they're reliable.
Soon all cars will be using CVTs Chevy is talking about using it in the next Camaro's, I have one in my Nissan and honestly not a big fan but it does help out on gas
+Wall E The problem with the CVT is the torque demands on acceleration from low/no speed, so you have a point. I do think this down side will go away as the technology matures tho. Once the car hits it power band tho, the transmission is ridiculous. It eats both AT's and manuals for breakfast from a rolling start, because you don't need to shift, it just maintains your powerband.
@WXIIIR They are showing the rate of acceleration of CVT vs Automatic transmissions, also they are explaining how CVT doesn't have shift shock like Automatic cars do
@TheArcticcatrider Well nissan's Xtronic CVT is electronically controlled, it keeps my cube at 1500-2000 rpms when ever im not on the gas which is lower rpms then both my old cars with 5 speed manuals.
@Tuneman1984 The point of the video is to look at the transmission. They simply exaggerate effects on suspension to show deceleration from braking and disengaging gears. Even with new transmission, an AT vehicle will still have to shift gears and therefore disengage from the drive shaft.
With a MT yes, your run of the mill OT, not always. MT and CVT have excellent engine braking, AT not so much, so if you get a bit too heavy on the acceleration braking's your only option.
Its not that the car slows down or the speed drops but, normally a car when it changes gears it pauses a second and does not go any faster threw the shifting which most people don't notice because it happens so quickly.
I had a rental Sentra a few years back that had a CVT. I was not familiar with them at the time and didnt know the car had it when I rented it. I just remember looking it up after I absolutely couldnt stand the way the car drove. I remember experiencing horrible acceleration and the car would just sit at redline under WOT and accelerate so damn slow. Regular automatics accelerate much better which made this video a complete joke. CVT's are good for just putting around town if nobody else is on the road and you never have to accelerate quickly.
It takes a little getting used to but once you learn how the trans/throttle position work together it feels like it's slipping at wot. Let off the gas and It'll pull hard.
Craig Weida you are correct I personally have driven a CVT for 7 years now and can confirm that the car accelerates the best and quickest with the gas pedal right under WOT.
Even a bad driver can drive well with CVT-transmission. However a good driver will compensate the manual transmission's adversity by planning ahead not just the 100 feet of the bad driver, but a whole mile ahead. As such a good drive doesn't need to brake at all when driving on a winding road.
CVT was first invented in Germany in the 50's so it's hardly new technology anyway, its just been refined and its main function is efficiency since you are never wasting energy by revolutions in between gears, it will never beat a manual for speed of course as you can downshift and make the pistons dance on the bonnet to get the speed.
But... the thing is, on a cvt, you are always on relativly high rpm, compared to a well driven manual.... so basically, you´re using MORE fuel instead of less...
Okay. but that still takes the advantage from it. basically, what you are saying is, that you are roughly at the same rpm on highways and in cities, as on a manual, if driven correctly. But, the manual and automatic got the advantage of high torque and power outputs. So, all in all, the cvt still is a relativly good idea but just doesnt work the way the inventors intended, at least on big cars and engines.
The problem is that when your CVT needs to be serviced, ONLY Nissan can perform the service which means more money for you to spend. If you are on a budget go with the traditional automatic transmission
matt wood hopefully not mate but Ive got 3 years or 160000 klms warranty so if it goes in the 3years I own it as I won't put that many klms on it all good covered by Nissan dude and I get rid of my car's every 2 1/2 years so it sells with warranty. That way I never pay to replace or repair them😀👍
And they wear down pretty quick. In terms of fun, well lets just say cvt is for people who see cars as little more than transport or are mechanically illiterate.
I own a 2013 Camry Hybrid with CVT, after owning a Japanese manual car for 20 years. I have to say, I was very skeptical before I drove one, however even when I plant my foot, there is zero slip, and the feeling of zero gear changes is worth it.
Distinct Lach No, it's an observation that requires more info from the person who made the comment, not from someone inferring what he thinks they meant; more CVT's being repaired could simply be the result of more of them being in use - what kinds of repairs and at what mileages...that would give an indication if they're "always breaking down."
Exactly. Way too many anectdotes and very little actual data. Considering people only talk about CVTs when something goes wrong, they tend to be skewed. We need to see hard numbers comparing failure rates between different transmissions.
A CVT works like a bike except the fact that instea dof shiftingk to a bigger gear to go fastes the whole roller that the belt is on gets bigger. When they use the manual mode it is just programmed tomake it "seem" like you are shifting by raising and lowering rpm and the roller thats the belt is rolling on. So they arent actually shifts. Youusually have to use the manual mode when you need to go higher speeds from a cruising speed of about 60 or so. hope that helps
it looks like they applied the clutch used in snowmobiles (for decades) to the inside of a transmission. it works but its just reapplying old tech from what i can see.
I have certainly driven quite a few cars in my short 6 years of driving... In fact I don't get stopped by my engine in with my 6-speed manual transmission and I love that.
usually. all other things equal (internal resistance, quality, ect..) the cvt would destroy any other transmission. it just hasn't been done yet because who wants a supercar with a cvt? (speaking like i'm marketing to car people)
@control177 with car/suv cvt's the chain should never wear (at least that's what the manufactures say ). special cvt only fluid keeps the chain from touching the pulleys.
CVT, it's a garbage. I have a nissan sentra 2013 SR and have a drive issues and nissan can't find the problem. Sometimes when you press on the accelerator, the car in drive nothing happen.
Your gearbox goes into emergency mode. This is happens due to lack or poor service done to your cvt. You must change oil every at least every 15k km. In the cvt there's also 1 to 2 filters, you must change them too. And at the end you need to clean the radiator in the gearbox.
CVTs use hydraulic pressure to move the wheels. When you floor it, all does is keep spinning the pump and generating pressure. If you stop the pump or slow it down, the transmission puts on a halt. So, downhill it does slow it down a lot. But if you want to vehicle to keep going you have to have engine spin the pump. Therefor, there is no disconnect from the transmission ever unless you put it in neutral and in turn disconnect the pump from the axle. Smooth acceleration is true about these vehi
Not at all, stay away from the Nissan CVT. I'd personally love to buy a Nissan but one google search of "Nissan CVT Problems" will keep me from ever buying one.
@ahmadturbo be very careful if u are going to mod a CVT. these transmissions arent exactly for modding and some cannot handle high pressure. also check what the CVT belt is made of because if the belt snaps due to modification, it voids ur wicked long warranty.
I think that's exaggerated a little bit, like it wouldn't matter what transmission you had while merging and high speed over taking probably wouldn't matter that much.
***** the ZF 9 speed will out last any CVT any day, and hold more power and is 100% electronically controlled. basically its bullet proof from the factory. and ZF is one of the best transmission manufactures on the planet. You have no idea what your talking about..
@control177 they are basically use the same however, each one serve a deferent objective. While the scooter's cvt helps to maintain lower maintenance cost and better fuel economy, the xtronic cvt adds better response, gear shifts that are shock free and then optimal performance at all conditions as opposed to normal expensive and (harsh) auto transmission. I'm not an expert but basically this is it.
you do realize that all manual vehicles engine brake all day long everyday. if anything it's good for the engine to have all sorts of forces on it to even out wear and keep things under pressure.
CVT accommodates drivers letting the computer decide the best "gear". With MT and AT, the driver doesnt have to guess what happens when pressing the pedal, but will have to trim out the throttle more. I prefer AT to CVT and MT to AT but thats because I drive performance. CVT is more for casual drivers who dont need to use the engine to slow movement.
I would think that because CVT's are always high on revs where the maximum torque is, the wear and tear is higher than in a vehicle that uses a double clutch gearbox or manual one. Other than that, efficiency wins in a CVT
How reliable are cvt transmissions? As in durability? Would I expect to get longer life out of a car with a cvt or a regular automatic? (assume regular maintenance and normal driving habits that do not involve flooring the gas pedal at all)
yea one of the best handling sedan out there. how the car working im waiting for the new 2014 skyactiv one i dnt car for fuel economy but i love the new kodo style of motion
Nissan CVT's are the worst in terms of reliability and programming. No other manufacturer has as many complaints logged against them as Nissan has. JATCO is not reliable and Nissan has these transmission programmed to maximize fuel economy while making the car seem like it's 10 years old and falling apart with acceleration problems and lugging. Up hills the car sputters. Yeah, Nissan states this is NORMAL. I'll stick to planetary gear driven. Keep the CVT's in the hybrids where they belong.
In any case, you still lose power to the Torque Converter. Not to mention, the engine braking effect is lessened over mechanical couplings. It may be old, but the manual transmission is still a superior tool in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.
CVT is theoretically the superior of any transmission to ever be invented, whether it be for fuel economy or acceleration. People just don't like it because it takes out an element of driver interaction. But, since they don't want to admit that, they like to say that it sucks because it isn't as durable as other transmissions, which is true, but still.... With some more research into making them more durable and cheaper, CVTs will objectively be the better transmission.
You don't know what you're talking about as long as you do your maintenance any transmission should have zero problems unless there is a defect cvt transmissions simply require a more regular service for them to operate correctly. I love going and shopping for a used car and asking people when the last time they had the transmission serviced.... generally the answer is "I don't know" aka "your supposed to do that?" Her dur dur
the AT gets more MPG due to it's ability to glide when you take your foot off the gas.if i want engine braking ill drop the shift leaver down a notch. with the AT you have a choice to engine brake or roll on for extra MPG
Chronic CVT problem on my parents’ 2011 Nissan Rogue during warranty.@TemeculaNissan didn't diagnose until warranty ended - now unwilling to repair and charging over $4K.
This is the "bogus warranty" Carlos Ghosn and Renault have plagued Nissan with, along with declining reliability. Deny, deny, deny, then as soon as the warrant is up, "oops, found it, that'll be $4,000 please.
I see the cvt's point of view, all it does is that it gives you more time before the next shift, meanwhile, AT takes about 3 shift in order to go to 60, at last cvt is just more acceleration, less shifts
I have a cvt trans. in my 07 nissan sentra. About how many miles should the transm. fluid be changed or does it need changing at all? Thanks for the video.
paddle shifters in cars with the CVT transmission are there for people who track their car so they can control the RPM through a turn then when it switches back into D(not simulated manual mode) you can get back to making peak power quickly and its there for the kids who want to feel sporty and shift their car manually even though their car is fasted in D
Cvts are very good at climbing n going down hills..i drove one up a mountain and i didn't have to rev past 3k rpm during the climb..the low end power is great(linear torque)..unlike an auto trans where you have to rev so high to get power(due to constant upshift/downshift of the torque conv)...and it is also true when going downhill, less braking is required ...cvts r very effective in these aspects.

because they have to use a shitty AT to compare against the CVT.

Benjamin D I agree. If you're going around bendy twisting roads, there's no reason to floor the car and rapidly brake. This video is exaggerating.

CVT kullanıyorum ve çok memnunum, sehir icinde mükemmel bir konfor sağlıyor !
+DxCBuG You can also do that with manual and autos by shifting it into second.
chrischoy9 thx...i knew.. i drive a stick shift... greetings from germany
DxCBuG Good man
DxCBuG sounds healthy
just rented a altima with cvt. don't feel like the acceleration as good as the AT one's. I felt CVT is noisy and slow. this video shows the AT shifting likes manual.
the mechanism that replaces it may be a (torus) toroidal transmission or metal band is shown at the beginning
CVT pure garbage.
you are garbage
Not all CVT's are bad, Nissan and Jatco (their transmission company maker) is though. Toyota makes their transmissions with Aisin for their Prius' and they're reliable.
Noah Stakes CVT JATCO IS PIECE OF SHITTTTT LOL
Soon all cars will be using CVTs Chevy is talking about using it in the next Camaro's, I have one in my Nissan and honestly not a big fan but it does help out on gas
CVT performs better on V6 engines. On 4 cylinders, its garbage..
+Wall E Once drove a 2014 Chevy Spark rental with CVT it was not nice. Scary when trying to overtake.
+Super XR what about manual CVT? I'D TAKE THAT
+dligac Wait what? manual CVT?
+Wall E The problem with the CVT is the torque demands on acceleration from low/no speed, so you have a point. I do think this down side will go away as the technology matures tho. Once the car hits it power band tho, the transmission is ridiculous. It eats both AT's and manuals for breakfast from a rolling start, because you don't need to shift, it just maintains your powerband.
+Super XR you drove a Spark...with 89 horsepower.....what did you expect to overtake? Lol
@WXIIIR They are showing the rate of acceleration of CVT vs Automatic transmissions, also they are explaining how CVT doesn't have shift shock like Automatic cars do
CVT equates to automotive cancer
+SuperNiceguy60 you can't run away from technology
Nor can u drive away, if what u have is a Renault /Nissan Altima known for breaking down anyway.
TruAgape1234 that's because people don't do maintenance!!!!!!
The idea of CVT is perfect, but the current state of technology is not up to the task.
i have a 2003 nissan murano that seems unusually slow i'm thinking the cvt transmission fluid needs changed.
@TheArcticcatrider Well nissan's Xtronic CVT is electronically controlled, it keeps my cube at 1500-2000 rpms when ever im not on the gas which is lower rpms then both my old cars with 5 speed manuals.
I prefer the one speed Fred Flintstone transmission and two foot through the floorboard braking system.
@Tuneman1984 The point of the video is to look at the transmission. They simply exaggerate effects on suspension to show deceleration from braking and disengaging gears. Even with new transmission, an AT vehicle will still have to shift gears and therefore disengage from the drive shaft.
Why would you brake when passing a truck?,
You over take and slip back in
With a MT yes, your run of the mill OT, not always. MT and CVT have excellent engine braking, AT not so much, so if you get a bit too heavy on the acceleration braking's your only option.
James Marlin
AT should change gear at or before the redline,
If you cant judge distances to make a safe overtake, dont do one.
James Marlin in some AT cars, we can manually select lower gear to increase acceleration & engine braking
Muhd Iqbal
I have not come across any AT that only has P R N and D.
My first auto had P R N D4 D3 L
IIGrayfoxII my cousin's car has P R N D L only
There's no tow truck in this video collecting you from beside the road when it fails...
are they drunk lol
Its not that the car slows down or the speed drops but, normally a car when it changes gears it pauses a second and does not go any faster threw the shifting which most people don't notice because it happens so quickly.
LMAO! That AT looks more like a Manual transmission! A AT car doesnt shift like that!
Must watch, truely helpful. I thank u people a lot by guiding us this way.
CVT's are good for just putting around town if nobody else is on the road and you never have to accelerate quickly.
exactly. i agree got a 2016 sentra cvt and this video must be a joke.its slow like a turtle.
The Adventure Mazda
It takes a little getting used to but once you learn how the trans/throttle position work together it feels like it's slipping at wot. Let off the gas and It'll pull hard.
Craig Weida you are correct I personally have driven a CVT for 7 years now and can confirm that the car accelerates the best and quickest with the gas pedal right under WOT.
That car has probably worn out CVT or roller weights
Even a bad driver can drive well with CVT-transmission.
However a good driver will compensate the manual transmission's adversity by planning ahead not just the 100 feet of the bad driver, but a whole mile ahead. As such a good drive doesn't need to brake at all when driving on a winding road.
so that pulley based transmission piece with the belt looks an awful lot like the clutch system used on snowmobiles for decades, #newtech #yearight.
That would depend on whether the control system for the cvt is programmed towards power or efficiency.
you're not always on a high rpm, a good CVT will have an overdrive function.
Okay. but that still takes the advantage from it. basically, what you are saying is, that you are roughly at the same rpm on highways and in cities, as on a manual, if driven correctly.
Where is the animation for when the cvt failes at 50k miles and leaves you stranded. Or the jitter and whine it produces
matt wood 3 years factory warranty mate
Wayne Fox will fail possibly before but usually starts at 60-70k miles. 4 people I know all had issues with these Nissan cvt
matt wood hopefully not mate but Ive got 3 years or 160000 klms warranty so if it goes in the 3years I own it as I won't put that many klms on it all good covered by Nissan dude and I get rid of my car's every 2 1/2 years so it sells with warranty. That way I never pay to replace or repair them😀👍
im a manual guy myself but i know for a fact that's not how an automatic NORMALLY operates ...
why does everyone hate cvt? just found out about it and it seems really cool
well the main reason. you dont have a fun car anymore.. its just CVT
And they wear down pretty quick. In terms of fun, well lets just say cvt is for people who see cars as little more than transport or are mechanically illiterate.
Civic13Man Gaming But if you want fun, get a sports car, I am not a big fan of CVT's but those cars get you from point A to B comfortably!
J.A. Castillo yea but really any regular oldcorolla still has something to play with. with cvt its pretty much the car doing all the work for you
Civic13Man Gaming except if u have a snowmobile then u have fun with a cvt
I own a 2013 Camry Hybrid with CVT, after owning a Japanese manual car for 20 years. I have to say, I was very skeptical before I drove one, however even when I plant my foot, there is zero slip, and the feeling of zero gear changes is worth it.
I agree with the Japanese companies doing this because they never can design a proper regular auto.
I prefer 5 speed manual or auto
Accurate to me. Maybe a bit over exaggerated on the AT but great for explaining the differences.
MT < AT < CVT?
Nathaniel Morada turn those arrows the other way
Fuck
Your R1M looks sick.
the very beginning shows the design which is interesting,
Then good to see the advantage
Nearly all of the automatic transmissions that we fix/replace at work are cvt...
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
+atticstattic bad thing, it means cvt transmissions are always breaking down
Distinct Lach No, it's an observation that requires more info from the person who made the comment, not from someone inferring what he thinks they meant; more CVT's being repaired could simply be the result of more of them being in use - what kinds of repairs and at what mileages...that would give an indication if they're "always breaking down."
Youusually have to use the manual mode when you need to go higher speeds from a cruising speed of about 60 or so. hope that helps
why do people hate on cvt its a genius way for everyday car also less complex even engineering explained thinks its a brilliant trans
+Muammarvsgaming 00 I also can't understand it. CVT is MUCH simpler they AT.
i also has many potential
it looks like they applied the clutch used in snowmobiles (for decades) to the inside of a transmission. it works but its just reapplying old tech from what i can see.
the idea is good, but the execution has yet to be improved.
You'll hate it when you're $5,000 when it breaks down right after warranty expires at 60,000 miles.
I have certainly driven quite a few cars in my short 6 years of driving... In fact I don't get stopped by my engine in with my 6-speed manual transmission and I love that.
Yeeeah... not really the case but its nice to dream big. :)
About to find out how well this works on the '16 Altima 3.5 SR. It wasn't so hot on my '15 Altima 2.5 SV, before or after engine was swapped to 3.5.
Aren't cvts slower because theyre mostly shitty cars?
usually. all other things equal (internal resistance, quality, ect..) the cvt would destroy any other transmission. it just hasn't been done yet because who wants a supercar with a cvt? (speaking like i'm marketing to car people)
Heard F1 had a car awhile back with the cvt.
CVT is reliable ???
it is on my car but I hate it.
no
nope Nissan is in deep lawsuits also chevy
70,000 miles in into my Nissan maxima 2012... still reliable .. its just alot of haters outthere ...
Not at all, stay away from the Nissan CVT. I'd personally love to buy a Nissan but one google search of "Nissan CVT Problems" will keep me from ever buying one.
@ahmadturbo be very careful if u are going to mod a CVT. these transmissions arent exactly for modding and some cannot handle high pressure. also check what the CVT belt is made of because if the belt snaps due to modification, it voids ur wicked long warranty.
in reality this does not happen Nissan try racing your 02 maxima manual or auto vs your cvt garbage that has the world of problems
I think that's exaggerated a little bit, like it wouldn't matter what transmission you had while merging and high speed over taking probably wouldn't matter that much.
As much as CVT are garbage, I'd take one of them over the Chrysler 9-Speed anyday.
***** It's overkill I agree.
But you get better fuel economy
***** No, the CVT still gets better fuel economy.
***** i meant that you get better fuel economy with 9 gears instead of like 4 :/
***** the ZF 9 speed will out last any CVT any day, and hold more power and is 100% electronically controlled. basically its bullet proof from the factory. and ZF is one of the best transmission manufactures on the planet.
I'm not an expert but basically this is it.
yea sit there and do engine breaking everyday and see how much maintenance you'lle need
you do realize that all manual vehicles engine brake all day long everyday. if anything it's good for the engine to have all sorts of forces on it to even out wear and keep things under pressure.
Engine braking is harmless if you don't rev over the redline. Heavy trucks use engine braking.
That's the only way I break when I drive my ex...
The worst Automatic transmissions ever made
I would think that because CVT's are always high on revs where the maximum torque is, the wear and tear is higher than in a vehicle that uses a double clutch gearbox or manual one. Other than that, efficiency wins in a CVT
Nissan CVT = POS.
Explained.
How reliable are cvt transmissions? As in durability? Would I expect to get longer life out of a car with a cvt or a regular automatic? (assume regular maintenance and normal driving habits that do not involve flooring the gas pedal at all)
CVT transmissions are awesome!
yea one of the best handling sedan out there. how the car working im waiting for the new 2014 skyactiv one i dnt car for fuel economy but i love the new kodo style of motion
@oscarfish48 usualy its called a belt in subarus i know for a fact its a metal chain that should last the life of the engine
This fails to explain that the Nissan CVT needs to be replaced every 40000 miles. Stay away from these transmissions.
LivesHacked 3 years factory warranty or 160000 KLM I won't pay at all
In any case, you still lose power to the Torque Converter. Not to mention, the engine braking effect is lessened over mechanical couplings. It may be old, but the manual transmission is still a superior tool in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.
CVT sucks. End of Story.
👍
Is ok if you just want to move from point A to point B or if you are not an enthusiast.
Personally my favorite is manual transmission.
real men use three pedals wooooooh
By watching this I better understand why CVTs Suck.
Amin Mohammadzadeh eres innombrable canijo y todo los gringos estan acostumbrados a los bigcars con big transmissions no lo crees loco
0:40 WRONG... AT Starts it's torque range pull, then CVT starts to pull later on as it is made to stay at the engines peak HP.
Passing a big rig on the right. Very dumb Nissan!
Considering the benefits of CVT transmission, why aren't more vehicles offered with CVT?
car sucks and the music sucks
do you know how a skidoo clutch system works ? im sure ya do well cvt is the exact same just has a trany casing covering the unit
CVT SUCKS!!!!!
yeah but you need to apply continuous pressure to the gas peddle to keep speed. Burning more gas... you can't just coast
how is this different from AT?
+Felix van Riessen Gurung
No clue. Nobody drives the way they are animating here. I'm calling bs
Trai Girtman then what are you complaining about?
and yes its a shitty animation.
When you cruise in a traditional AT, the injectors shut off and you save gas. On the cvt, the gear continuously changes to the situation.
I got a 2008 nissan altima 3.5 with the good ole 6 speed manual gearbox and I love it.
@mywJOE
thanks
but mast we can choose Cvt or MT but Nissan Maxima only CVT
