Thank you for this deep dive Olive! Your Wharton videos are among my favorites; they are so insightful and concise. I read The Glimpses of the Moon two years ago and adored it. The House of Mirth is also my favorite of Wharton's works but The Glimpses of the Moon is up there. I never even knew this book existed until I saw a copy at my local Barnes&Noble.
Hi Olive, I recently listened to this book on Audible when it was free. Wanting to scratch my Wharton itch and I was surprised not only by Nick and Susy but also the commentary on marriage and ease of divorce , how children were raised and the Arts. I too feel that Edith Wharton could easily be my favorite author. I watched a documentary on her life - fascinating how life and her writing career were so intertwined. It made me what to read her books in publication order.
Edith Wharton is wonderful! I've loved her since high school and Ethan Frome. I was reading Colm Toibin's Brooklyn and the sequel, Long Island, and I detected a strong Wharton influence.
That’s so interesting. I noticed almost a homage to Wharton’s “Age of Innocence” by Toibin in how he chose to end his latest novel, “Long Island”. And now since you mentioned it, I do see Wharton’s influence as to choices made by characters in “Brooklyn”.
Great video! I was recently thinking of re-reading Glimpses of the Moon but ended up re-reading House of Mirth since it’s my favorite Wharton book ☺ but after this video I’m gonna hafta go read Glimpses of the Moon again! Have you read her book “New Year’s Day” ? I found a super old vintage copy at a book sale recently and really enjoyed it, I would highly recommend!
I found it at Goodwill! It appears to be vintage (from maybe the '80s?) and it was made by a company called "Shapely Knits." I know that's probably not very helpful 😔
Now your enthusiastic review leaves me head scratching as to why “Glimpses of the Moon” hasn’t received more attention among those who offer literary commentary. As you are speaking, my mind to went to Lily Bart. Suzy sounds like a version of Lily that may have followed a different path. Also, the path the couple followed echoed that of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald.
I love that you made a whole video about this book!
I had never heard of it but it sounds fabulous. Thank you for introducing me to a new book.
I just adore Edith Wharton and this is the first I’ve heard of this book. Thank you, Olive for this introduction 💙
You have me intrigued! Thank you for the in depth book review.
The House of Mirth is also my favorite Edith Wharton novel but I'm excited to check this one out - thank you for the review!

I always enjoy reading her novels. I have many on my bookshelf with about half already read.
What a coincidence, I've just read Ethan Frome and loved it!
It's a great time of year to read Ethan Frome! ❄️
@@abookoliveYou can say that again!
@@abookolive I too just finished Ethan Frome. I can't get it out of my mind.
I really loved Summer by Edith Wharton. I will read Ethan Frome in February because I decided I want to read all hers. I had never heard of this one.

Olive: you have really peaked my interest with this book. Off to my library to see if they have it on their shelves. Carol from California

Olive - Love your videos, thank you for the review. Would love to hear your favorite poem books 🤓📚
Thank you! That's very kind. ❤️ I'm not much of a poetry reader, sadly.
Great review will check it out. Do you wear magnetic lashes, they look nice
I've actually never worn fake lashes before! This is just a tubing mascara (which does wonders for lengthening).
(Melanie here) This is actually my favorite Edith Wharton book.
Now I'm interested.
I love your sweater. If you don’t mind, can you share where it is from please?
