Ah this was so fun to see people react to our party’s story! I played the barbarian who killed Rith in Wholesome story 1 and yes, it was a very intense couple of sessions 😅.
Cheers for reading my story! It was the last thing I expected to hear while I was listening to the episode at work! As for the point Jack made about “it’s fun to roll loads of dice”, that’s exactly why we spent 15 minutes or so trying to figure it out. The DM himself even advocated for trying to figure it out before we realized the hour was getting late and we had to wrap it up for the evening. But boy was I ready to just get a dice roller on a site somewhere and just roll an OBTUSE amount of damage!
i had a Kobold character who only spoke Draconic, he could understand common but couldn't actually speak it, so he communicated using minor illusion to create either pictures or short sentences. When there is magic there are ways to communicate
It was very nice to hear you guys reaffirm my feeling about that situation. There were many different horror stories from that group but that was very much the straw that broke the camel's back. I will say I have found a new group to play with and have been enjoying it very much!
DM from the Vanstrom/Tivali story here. Safe to say I didn't expect my recurring villain to be reformed and romanced - I kind of just expected him to be a shithead that they'd hate.
I just wanted to say I love you guyssss. I recently got into dnd and found your pod on tiktok(ironic given what jack was saying about tiktok LOL). I knew basically nothing abt dnd and I do get a little nervous entering “male dominated” spaces but you guys make it so welcoming. Keep up the good work and imma keep binging alllll your vids while at work and when I’m playing Minecraft lolol ❤❤
Horror Story 1: That puzzle thing is absolutely insane. It's like saying that the solution to a puzzle is hidden in the words of a common prayer (like the Lord's Prayer or something) to an in-universe god that doesn't exist in our real world, and then rolling Religion, rolling high, and the DM saying "Yes, your character is aware of the prayer and can figure it out, but because you, Billy, don't know the prayer, you can't," and then when asking the DM to tell you the prayer, they say "Oh, I can't. I don't have a copy of it written down." Like, what a crazy take on how puzzles work. If I know a guy who can read Chinese, and send them to read something that's in Chinese and translate it for me, and someone won't take the translation I received from the other person because I myself didn't translate it due to not understanding the language...
Things I learned on this episode: "BBQ sauce on my tiddays" is an extremely versatile phrase, tiktok is anti-anti-capitalism (boo), I need to dig out my rollerblades. Also, for Margaret: hope your diagnosis journeys go well and you get all the help and support you need! My little brother has autism and ADHD, and just learning about himself and why he feels and thinks the way he does really helped him a lot. Manifesting a great self care year for both of you! And Bully! 😌
Just to confirm 2 things about the dragon heist game. 1 I agree completely the pig had no reason to be killed, that was rude. But *spoiler* the tavern is specifically blown up with a fireball at the start of one of the chapters and thats why it happened.
I'm going to see if I have ADHD this year as well. I've joked about it for a while now and recently discovered that I was the only one joking. Apparently my best friend was serious and I'm just oblivious. This is the year of self care and learning how to make life easier for myself. I'm in my mid 30's and honestly thought life was just difficult for everyone. Good luck! Also loop ear plugs and ADHD tic tock life hacks have changed my life.
I too will be seeking an autism assesment this year because it would explain SO much in my life. The amount of tests I've taken and videos I've watched, and podcasts I've listened to is wild 😆 I've been mainly vegetarian since early ´18 and have also added glutenfree and mainly dairy free to that and my stomach thanks me. I'm not directly allergic to any of it but I do have sensitivities. I'm thankful that I like to cook because it really forces you to be creative and buying gf & dairyfree items can be expensive. I wish you good luck on your journey to better bodily and mental health! 🥰 BBQGochujang sause on my toddies! #JusticeForThePig I'm sorry you had that experience peach
I think an easy way to make riddles fun is to make them not essential to progress. Maybe a riddle is the solution to a trap that could cause a good amount of damage if you don't solve it. You could still move on if you can't solve it but it would be a lot better for you if you re able to solve.
Hi guys :) loved the podcast as usual! Could it be that you forgot to add the link to the interview in the notes? (Or maybe I'm just too blind bc of the Entity's meddling, haha) I found it by looking up 'Lich please', but I thought I should ask for the link in case other podblasters are looking for it too :)
I actually have something similar in my current pcs backstory to the story at 1:20:48. My pc is from a travelling druidic clan who raise their children in a community based way, my pc grew up without het mother but was raised by a couple of the families alongside her grieving father, the children she was raised with are her brother and sister despite completely different families.i just loved the idea of no matter peoples family backgrounds they can find connection through community.
Also, the fact I got the word penultimate on the most unrestful horror story, but I comment that I'm so happy for the word.... Out of context, looks like something else. For those who don't know, I just like the word Penultimate, and I do this on other videos and in live streams. Lol ❤
Horror stories with the experienced DM "I been playing since before you were born" that doesn't mean you are going to good it a cook that has baking since you have been born can still burn the loafs
Wassup fam! Im bulking currently so i had six eggs, four sausages and a bowl of chocolate protein powder oatmeal. Im currently planning my campaign for my party i met through the discord and dont think my will has weakends, Artificer pod when 🤨!? (Jokes)
1:34:10 spoilers for hazbin hotel In episode 8 the hotel is attacked and destroyed but Angel's pet pig Fat nuggets survives unharmed it is clearly shown jumping in to Angel's arms after the battle this is how it should be handled
Horror Story 2: "I've been playing D&D since before you were born." Cool. Are we playing First Edition? No? We're playing 5E, the one that's been out for 8 years that everyone's been playing for the same amount of time? Then why does how long you've been playing matter? Everyone's got the same amount of experience with the current edition, so any prior experience doesn't mean anything, and just because you've been running games for 40 years doesn't mean you've been running -good- games for 40 years. As for the story itself, it sounds like something the DM & Manager had gotten together to talk about in their spare time, and they just wanted to rope some people into their idea for a home game so they could fuck around with these dumb characters, and basically let three other people sit and watch Mute Manager and Jerry the Piss Goblin go on their wacky adventure, which sounds like a nightmare. Glad OP was able to get out of that.
Horror Story 3: To play devil's advocate, it sounds like the style of the game just wasn't something that Problem Player wanted. Like, if they weren't having fun in the campaign, the DM could've asked what they'd have fun doing, maybe asked about previous campaigns they'd played with other groups that they'd found fun, to see what kind of vibe they were expecting to get out of the game. That said, Problem Player sucks for doing what they did, and hopefully OP goes back to DM'ing without them. If they are an activist that works against the sort of thing they were doing, they're clearly fake and are showing their true colors by doing that to your friends in what they perceive to be a safe space for them to do so, which it isn't, because that's disgusting behavior no matter who it is.
If you get an autism diagnosis, get ready for a wild personal journey. My wife got a diagnosis 2 years ago and we're still figuring out who she is without her masking
Mags, if it turns out you have adhd/add just be wary of what meds they put you on if you choose to go on meds I have severe adhd and the meds in the states anyways are mostly amphetamine based and are bad in my opinion
I'm lucky that I don't feel social dysphoria, like I don't feel bad when people use he/him so I just say he/they and brownie points If you use they them
Horror Story 4: Man, what a shitty unfun group. The fact that they get to make and play what's fun for them, and then rip on and disrespect what's fun for OP is just absolute trash. Willing to bet they're all boring power builds, too, because the game's just about being the coolest and the strongest, not pretending to be whatever. And while I agree with the point made to speak out about being upset about your character being misgendered, I guarantee these are the kinds of people that respond to that with, "Why are you getting butthurt about it? It's just a game, bro." They're people that don't see themselves in their characters. They aren't interested in telling interesting stories, which is why the campaigns never last more than a few sessions; they do the cool thing they wanted to do, get bored, and move on to a different story to try some cool new thing they saw on Reddit or D&D Homebrew after the current campaign started and it was too late for them to do anything. And as for the tavern being blown up, I can see that maybe the party made some enemies who wanted revenge, and figured destroying their base/business might be a way to deal a big blow to them, but the fact that the pig "died instantly", seemingly without any rolls or any chance of it somehow getting out, makes it feel like it was a way to jab at OP a bit. Like, I can see the DM's face curling into a smile when they come to the smoldering wreckage of the bar, and looking at OP as they say, "By the way, your pig? Died. Instantly." Because why would you take a pig instead of a cool magical item? This is what you get for taking something thematic to your character instead of some awesome sword that'll give you advantage on all attacks against fire elementals or whatever dumb shit the other party members took. I'll bet that's the reason. OP didn't do the thing at the start that the DM wanted, so they got punished for it. Did any of the other party members lose their cool magical items they got at the start? Probably not.

I want a video of Jack voice acting. His range is amazing!
Jack's genuinely refuting that he enables bully, 100% enabling 😂
