Steven, the VGK story is incredibly similar to my hometown New Orleans Saints. Everyone remembers the image of a ravaged Superdome and city in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Folks were trying to rebuild their lives while the Saints played the 2005 season elsewhere and looked to be leaving the city for good. Against all odds, they not only returned to the city and went out into the community but in their first year back, they surprised everyone by going all the way to the NFC Championship game. Like the Knights, they fell short in their first year, had some trials and tribulations along the way but a few years later, they finally climbed the proverbial mountain and claimed the top prize. It's been fun watching it play out all over again.

Thanks for pointing this out. People that don’t live in Vegas completely ignore this or forgot about it or whatever . They love to shit on our city and our team. Say we “aren’t a true hockey city” or “our fans are bandwagoners who don’t know anything about hockey and will just ditch the team once they start to struggle” etc . I always bring up the fact that this team single-handedly helped to heal this city after October 1st 2017. They honored the first responders, honored the people who were killed, and at their first home game they put all the names of the dead and brought out all the first responders that were involved that day and honored them. Helped do fundraisers for the families, etc etc. Their first season started RIGHT AFTER the shooting happened. And then they had this magical 1st season and went all the way to the SCF. I’ll never forget it as long as I live. Brought the city together and gave us so much joy when we needed it. Because of this Vegas will NEVER abandon VGK. We are loyal for LIFE. And seeing them lift the cup with some of the original misfits still on the team made me tear up. So goddamn amazing . Another thing I’ll never ever forget . I got the newspaper the morning after they won and framed the front page . It’s on my wall next to a SC champions pennant and with a shelf underneath them that has 3 VGK pucks in display cases and a little golden statue of Mark Stone . Fuckin love this team. Appreciate you highlighting this stuff that other fanbases conveniently forget !

I'm from Cincinnati but I became a Golden Knights fan from the first game, being a supporter of the underdogs my whole life. It was easy to love this team. The players on the team rewarded the city's love for them by giving them love right back even before the first game. And now six seasons in, a Vegas born franchise with Vegas roots has brought the Stanley Cup home to Vegas. It's a surreal feeling that my first trip to Vegas all people wanted to do is gamble, but now Vegas is a true city that has proven its more than just casinos. Viva Las Vegas and all Hail our Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights!

THANK YOU! It's totally full circle. My husband and I attended 28 home games of Season 1 (non season ticket holders) many of the players were our neighbors. October 1, it shattered us and brought us together on the same day. When they had the opportunity to win it in year one it felt amazing and yet, unfinished. Then 4 years of play offs and now, with the full circle win. Yesterday, we went to the parade. Unreal, once in a lifetime moment I will never forget. We are Vegas Strong and WE ARE Stanley Cup Campions.

The Raiders in Oakland were that way in the 1960s and ‘70s - the players were in the community all the time - crab meets, at local bars and schools. It was a natural thing. There was a real connection between the players and the fans. In many ways that city doesn’t exist anymore, professional athletes can’t interact in this way, but glad to see the Knights be an exception to the cynical ways of the modern world.

As a Canadian Sharks fan who lived in San Jose for many years, it would be easy to cheer against VGK, but nothing could be farther from the truth.
The Sharks were playing at T-mobile that horrible night of Oct 1st, so I was already paying close attention to what was happening in your city when tragedy struck. Over the following weeks, I watched the way the team and individual players rallied around the Vegas community and the way locals were embracing the players and the team - how could anyone, including this Sharks fan, not cheer for VGK, unless they were playing SJ.
Six years later, all I can say is congratulations to all the fans in Vegas and areas like Summerlin where the team and many players are based. Enjoy YOUR parade on Saturday night! I hope it is fantastic!

There are those that use the term 'bandwagon fan' in reference to many a VGK fan. For those of us that have been supportive of them since before their first game at T-Mobile, we know how hollow that sounds. There is nothing bandwagon about those who watched Vegas galvanize around the Knights in the aftermath of Oct 1. How that first season it felt like they couldn't be stopped and that just made us all cheer louder.
The Golden Misfits was a nickname that stuck. Flower. Marchy. Engelland. Schmidt. Wild Bill. This team and those players were a much needed shot in the arm for our city. They helped us heal and recover and surge forward. Most of us come from elsewhere in the country and around the world but when rallying around VGK we were one. It wasn't about hockey. It wasn't about winning. It was about being a part of something bigger than yourself. And we all were Vegas Strong.
    Go Knights Go!

As an A’s fan living here, it was cool at first hearing that we had a chance to be here and knowing I can watch my team again. As of today, I hate it. They’re just spitting in the faces of the Oakland locals and the way they’re handling this stadium process is disgusting. The A’s will not feel the same to me when they’re here

.......BTW.......I Predict that within the next 10-20 years,a "Theme Park" of some type will be on the drawing books in close proximity to the Las Vegas area... I'm actually surprised that it has not happened already...It would / will take billions of dollars in planning and development, put it could be highly profitable if it were put together and financed by the right company 😉

Only the real know hockey would come eventually. Grew up going to Wranglers games at the orleans but since we had no nhl team i liked my parents teams Rangers and Blackhawks. But been in Vegas for the most part of my life and 100% they came and made a team way better than i ever thought they could. There will be no other vegas professional team in the future that can compare. Especially since they got a cup in 6 years so vegas has now set the stone for new franchises. Raiders and As are not gonna work, we dont want other cities losing teams wtf... litterally As are the worst team right now in history. Id say they need to bring a vegas grown nba team next if anything and not a fking transferred team cuz that is not real franchising

There are many great stories about the team itself, but the grandiose discussion about saving a city after “the greatest tragedy in American history” sickens me. Sadly, it wasn’t, and amid all the California bashing in this video, I’m sure that more Californians than Nevadans were killed at Route 91. One of them worked for the LA Kings. The team always used that horrific event to bring their team and fans together. Don’t brag about that.
