Thanks for the videos. I like how it’s ok for boats to touch as long as you’ve done on your prep work, and you have your bumpers and everything in place. That has always been a phobia of mine because let me tell you in my marina in touch somebody else’s boat you’ll never hear the end of it.

Hi from Turkey😊 Before untiding the bow line what I do is to turn the helm to upwind side with gear forward then untie the bow line. Lastly l untie the lazy upwind line. So that l can control the bow easily as l do not have a bow thruster.

Hey Neil. Yes likely the bow line would be last, as you could start driving out as they drop this line given the line sinks and is clear. Though you could use the same process as shown in the video :)

Great video very helpful as a new solo sailor. I have a centre cockpit beneteau 36, you cannot access the stern lines without leaving the helm. Do you have any tips to solve this issue? It's probmlimatic entering and leaving the dock. Many thanks in advance
Hey Patrick. Yes the centre cockpit adds this level of complexity for sure. The big challenge and focus for me in this situation is getting the 'stall time' in order to get out of the cockpit, control line on, and back to the throttle before losing control. This one for me is definitely about the approach and the momentum of the boat being towards the wind so that you increase the stall time. One other thing you can do if you have a competent dock hand is get the stern close enough to the dock that they can take the line from the yacht without you interacting with the line. This again is of course only going to work with some hull shapes that allow you to get this close. Its a tough one, I have follower here in Croatia withj a centre cockpit, I will see if we can demonstrate it on his yacht later in the season. Thanks for watching!

Why we stopped going to Greece or Croatia and bought our own boat in Spain- the amateur charterers are so unspeakably rude and will sail straight past you drinking cocktails with their fenders flying even if you were on fire. Not to mention barge you off your mooring without even looking at you. As a professional skipper Nick can you and all the Greek, Adriatic and Med skippers all start demanding a higher set of accreditation before chartering boats to unmannerly landlubbing gin-swillers ? Perhaps a minimum of RYA Day Skipper ticket?
Hey Sandy, there is of course a minimum accreditation for chartering vessels here in Croatia, though I am not sure how I can demand it of anyone! This is down to the charter companies who rent out the yachts. And to be honest, what you are describing is character, which is in no way filtered through the courses such as RYA or ICC. RYA Day skipper is effectively about the minimum level. Though what you have described I have seen with those that hold an RYA Yachtmaster. So that is not the issue. What year/time and area did you experience this? (with regards to Croatia) As much as there are some, (and I have seen these everywhere: Spain, Italy France, Caribbean, New Zealand, Australia) I don't feel these days they colour barrel when it comes to charterers here in Croatia.

Thats the way to do it! Just be sure to straighten the helm/rudder when releasing the stern line!
